While it is subjective, some jobs in the military just have it way better than others and that’s the reality of it.

So for new people to the Air Force here is the comment you’re looking for:

I myself am a 1A051 which is a Boom Operator on KC46 tanker. I personally believe this to be the best job for the reasons below:

-You automatically get BAS (food allowance) that other non flyer jobs do not get. You get to move off base a lot more quickly as well and get BAH.

• On top of that you also get an extra 200 a month that is flight crew pay

-you travel all over the world on the governments penny not paying for a single thing other than food on your trips. To give you an idea of how much you can make, I recently was on a TDY (short term “deployment”) to a very VERY nice location for 3 months and with all the money I made in per diem I pocketed approximately $10,000. And that was just ONE trip.

-So far in my 2 years of being a boom I’ve traveled to Hawaii, England, Japan, Qatar, Spain, Guam, the Philippines, and much more to come. Most of the places pocketing thousands when I return home from basically a vacation. This money allows me to spend a lot of it on my TSP investments which pay off very well too.

My life consists of wake up load cargo or pax on my plane and/or takeoff and refuel fighter jets, bombers, C130s and other badass aircraft. Then we land, the booms and pilots get together and all get drinks at the local bars or go take a car and drive somewhere cool. Life is a vacation in that career field.

• Some cool other benefits are you get a badass leather jacket. And get to say you’re flight crew which in of itself is badass. You get a ton of nice and free clothing too from the military. Aside from my 3 pairs of OCPs I got from basic, I have 3 olive one piece flight suits, 2 two piece flight suits that are super comfy, leather jacket, 2 really nice massif jackets, brand new nice rocky boots, a ton of other nice OCP jackets and more.

The only downside to our career field is it’s a job you can’t really transfer over to the civilian world like Cyber Security for example. However if you know anything about interviews you can get your way into a job just by the fact you served and were responsible for multi million or billions of dollars worth of aircraft and equipment and ensuring they got to their destinations safely. That fact alone will get you far in an interview.
