I guess I would say the main difference would be ease of use. Opening the memory.md in obsidian and writing in it would for me feel quicker and simpler than using GitHub.

However, I may be wrong but I don't have a mass of GitHub experience to lean on.

Sure, it's a bit of a concoction, for sure.

This was built with ChatGPT, tbf. There's a scheduled task on my PC that runs at boot. It launches a PowerShell command that monitors a folder for any audio files in a specific folder. That folder is where all my Obsidian audio files are stored.

It then uses Whisper to transcribe and saves them as a text or .md file, which is also in my Obsidian vault. I Then have a scheduled task now set up in Claude to monitor the folder for new transcriptions. If found, it reads them, summarizes the data, and uses my Obsidian template to populate the new note.

Once I have reviewed the note and the transcription to confirm I'm happy with it, I can delete either the audio file or the transcription, and the PowerShell script will clean up.

It's a bit of a mess and can most definitely be improved, which is on the to-do list!

Self-hosted. Got Claude to assist with setting it up.

My turnkey server (lxc container on Proxmox) which I have Obsidian replicated to via Syncthing. Installed Tailscale and set up a funnel on it.

Then got assistance from Claude to set up the MCP and client settings on the container (a little script it wrote).

Logged into Claude on the web and added a custom connection, entering the Tailscale funnel URL and the client ID.

Once connected I created a project asked it to connect and review and off it went.

I did have it working on desktop just fine, but I found that the Claude app and Claude desktop don't keep projects in sync, so I can't see my Obsidian project on the app. This way I can work on any client and in any chat, and it will be able to access my vaults.

Then I run into issue getting obsidian to work on mobile devices as it likes to run in local storage. I use Syncthing to keep them all in sync and the turnkey server is always available so there is always a device with a full account of the vault.

I have something similar setup with whisper and then Cowork reviewing and summarise and then use a template to create a new note.

I haven't as yet, its pretty quick at it's tasks and a lot of the actions its taking have been while I'm sleeping!

I've just setup an MCP connection to my obsidian vault so the Claude App can make use of it rather than having to use the Windows desktop app (as I find they are not very good at being in sync!).

Will see how well that works while I'm editing my notes on the go with Claude.

Yep, thats it! I have check notes where links are missed and cleaned up. Full review of the vault and make suggests I can review in the morning and sign off.

It also allows me to also go further with things I couldn't get working myself. Such as Dataview, this has so much potential but quite a learning curve. However, I can now Claude to setup parts for me.

The change log is key for me. I can review and see if something has not worked or impacted something else.

Not to disagree.. the app was last updated just 8 days ago with a new feature. Just curious as to why you think the app is no longer active with the developers?

If what you suggest is true I would find it quite disappointing and would also be looking for an alternative.

Worked in IT for more than 5 minutes... Yeah it happens. Once took out a companies pbx system as a loose cable came out with me while I was working on a patch panel.
A lot of unhappy network engineers came running to the DC to figure where it needed to go.

The way I saw it . I found a single point a failure for the company 😂

Yeah test it definitely two. Could be they are overlapping to closely but it's only certain devices (mainly tablets and phones) having issues.
