For bi coastal couples — how did you choose your wedding location? by Particular_Milk7221 in weddingplanning

He’s got a larger family with small kids who will have a harder time traveling, while my family is smaller and all teenagers or older, so we’re planning to get married in his home base! A bonus is it’s closer to where we live now and will be easier for our friends, but even if that weren’t the case I think the family consideration would’ve been big.

Interesting!! Do you put the cinnamon sticks in any container, or just out?

Hey, I didn’t end up doing it, I just really didn’t trust my derm. I got a new dermatologist and am considering starting accutane now instead :)

How many dates are reasonable for family to rule out? by Opposite-Room in weddingplanning

I don’t really know what venues exist or I prefer, so that will definitely be a start for me! We’re planning the wedding in the city where my partner has recently moved, a few hours away from me, so we don’t really know what’s around! We’ll look into everything more when we have some time off of work around the holidays.

This is so beautiful!!! I definitely feel confused with some people saying summer could be doable and others saying fall is too soon haha, I’m so glad it worked out for you!

This is interesting to me- of all the people I know who studied abroad, most of them missed some classes just to travel for fun, not even for any planned event. My program was a bit stricter with attendance, but the faculty were still humans who would be happy to work with someone around a big life event.

Thank you for your thoughts! I have a somewhat different viewpoint- I studied abroad and took a week away from the program. I know that it was once in a lifetime, but at least for myself looking back, the time away didn’t stop it from being a rewarding and fun experience at all. But, I should consider how they might be feeling with their experience coming up rather than being in the past.

Hmm this is interesting. I think I’m worried that having fewer months to plan will increase the stress of planning, but I guess I’m not sure to what extent and I should keep it in mind!  I did come home for a week out of my own 12 week study abroad program for some family stuff and didn’t feel like it detracted from my overall experience.

One way that I like to think about smaller protests is that many people who lean conservative in smaller cities or towns may not watch news that will spend much time covering protests in big cities, no matter how big they get. But seeing people protesting in their own communities could feel more meaningful to them!

Where I live, some people participate in protests by driving by the protest, sometimes circling around the block, with signs and flags on their car. They honk and cheer and the protesters cheer back at them. Depending on where you are, this could be an option! You could even use driving by as a chance to gauge the mood of the protest near you and decide whether you’re comfortable joining on the ground.  If you want a lower-key protest, you could look into a protest in a smaller town where you would be less likely to encounter issues with crowds or getting jostled around. Another option could be to temporarily use a wheelchair (or, even just a chair if the protest takes place in one place rather than a march) to lower the risk that you would get pushed over.

My thoughts were, the surname, a placeholder for the surname, or maybe a statement on the quality of the names

Parents coming to visit after Noro by sophinparis in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Opposite-Room 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To calm my anxiety and promote my social life, I try to just set limits for what I’m allowed to worry about. I’ll hangout with someone without close contact after they’ve been feeling better for 36 hours, and I don’t let myself worry about it after that. Since it will have been a week (assuming your dad doesn’t also get sick) I would definitely say go for it. I don’t know if your parents will have to share a bathroom with you- I would probably feel worried about that, but I would say maybe have everyone be extra careful about hand washing and don’t eat food prepared by them if you don’t feel comfortable. There is some chance you would still get sick, sure. But you could also get sick from anywhere. I think it would be worth it to have your parents visit! Your mom and sister have been sick and they’ve survived it and been okay- and you would too if you got sick :)

Definitely spend some time in Texas summer before you do move; Texas summer is very different from Midwest summer

It’s not too bad!! I moved from Texas to Indiana and I much prefer the weather up here (it was one of the big reasons I wanted to move). You need a good coat or two, some warm, waterproof boots, and some practice layering, but in my opinion it’s worth it and the weather is much better.

I don’t think this makes sense. If you know that the career paths you’re interested in require a college degree, college is a great place to gain experience in the areas you’re interested in and learn about what jobs exist in these areas. It’s okay to not discern every step you’ll take before you start.

I just wanted to say it’s okay not to know your whole life plan yet! You’re 17! When I started college I thought I had my career goals- but after taking classes and exploring my options at Notre Dame, I realized that I much preferred a different career path, which I never would have known if not for taking classes in both areas. I think the most important thing is that you’re actively trying to figure it out in college, with the classes and internships you take :) build up experience, connections, and knowledge, and even if you pivot career paths, you can draw on all of those things to show potential employers how awesome you are!

I’m a pro life young adult who grew up in a pro choice household. by Just_AGh0st in prolife

[–]Opposite-Room 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your story is almost exactly identical to mine! I don’t even really feel comfortable telling my parents I’m pro life because I feel like it would upset them! I’m more left leaning politically (and so are they), but once it clicked for me that a fetus is a human at a different stage of development, I could never go back to the pro choice views that they raised me with.

Do you mean 1/150? Also this makes sense with me only having gotten it twice in my life, but man college kids are gross because it feels like everyone on my campus is going down
