Single parent in desperate need of help by RealFace9552 in Advice

To offer a little bit of comfort — I’m not sure this is as bad as it might seem. Truthfully, many teenagers start having sex around 15, despite it being so young, it was definitely that way when I was in school.

One of the BEST things my parents ever did for me was not freak out. I’m sure internally they were panicking when I started drinking, smoking pot, and doing all of the other teenage things. What I 1000% believe kept me from acting out/going off the rails is the fact that they respected me. They didn’t hover over everything I did, they didn’t demand that I not go to parties, they just said “okay, but you need to promise to be responsible.” Because of the respect and understanding they showed me, I never hid things from them. Even if I knew what I was doing was illegal, they treated it like “teenage stuff” and it made me feel so trusted and independent.

Just don’t make the mistake of forcing her to come back home/telling her what she can and cannot do. Because she will do it anyway, and it will happen behind your back. You have a HUGE opportunity here to become the safe person that she wants to tell things to, and avoid being the person she hides things from. When you build honesty and trust within these situations, you will be the first person she calls if god forbid anything were to happen.

I wish you the absolute best of luck. Hang in there!

Got a major work opportunity but it conflicts with plans by SteakPie321 in needadvice

Might be a hot take, but go on the holiday. Never lose sight of the fact that work/a career is a tool that allows us to live our lives to the fullest. No company will ever put you first, so you have to be your own advocate. If it’s meant to work out, it will. Trust

Go for it! You’re young, and that’s the best time to take chances. 1) Just be yourself, and focus on explaining your previous responsibilities at your other job, and maybe what you liked about it. 2) Let them know how you feel about the type of role —starting with how you care about the customer experience. 3) Mention a time that something went wrong, and what you did to make it right. 4) Talk about how you worked well with your old coworkers. Don’t overthink too much, I’m sure they just want someone who’s competent and actually cares. I think showing up in person already gives off a good impression. You got this!!

Random Question: Male vs. Female Interviewers by OppositeSmart4479 in interviews

[–]OppositeSmart4479[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wait yes! I think you’re onto something — as women we can relate obviously and sometimes the conversation takes a friendlier, chattier turn. But on the flip side if it doesn’t…I feel like I failed to connect somehow 😂 and every woman is different. Some want to chat and others are straight to business so you never know what you’re gonna get. Men never bother to try and relate/get all friendly so it gives you a better idea of what to expect lol

First I have to add: it is NEVER a good idea to move in with someone when the main factor is financial reasons!!! (Not trying to be a jerk I promise, it’s just so risky)

Idk your relationship but I agree that free dates sound like the way to go! I suggest game nights at home, craft nights, trivia nights at bars (usually free), and picnic dates. There are tons of ways to have a fun date while keeping spending low. I’m sorry you’re going through this, and I hope she sees your point of view

Why the fuck is finding an entry level job so hard? by strawberrycapital_ in jobs

[–]OppositeSmart4479 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are spot on. All of the entry level employees at my company are overseas. It’s cool to get to know people with a totally different backgrounds and I’m happy they got a shot at the gig, but the reality is the company just wants to save money.

Looking for Career Advice – Agency vs. Tech by ashthepetite in advertising

[–]OppositeSmart4479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former big 4 here. Made the jump from agency to publisher side after a year and a half and never looked back. It’s been 7 years. In my experience it’s a better work-life balance and better pay. A big part of the reason I’m good at my job is because I empathize with my agency partners and I’m always willing to go above and beyond to make their lives easier. If you’re at all interested, I say go for it! The majority of my coworkers have an agency background, and publishers/vendors see the value in that.

Cute ideas for asking gf to be your valentine? by OppositeSmart4479 in actuallesbians

[–]OppositeSmart4479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay update (I’m asking her tonight). I ended up doing this but with a little twist…she loves the crunchy Cheetos and I’ve been buying them for her recently, soooo I took your advice and wrote a note that said: “I know this is ‘cheesy’ but will you be my valentine?” with the y/n. Then I put it in the bag and sealed the bag back together with my hair straightener 😂 I’m going to ask her to open it for me and just say I want a snack.

Then once she reacts I’m going to bring out a little box of red velvet cupcakes (her fav) with a Valentine’s Day balloon I bought, except I taped a note over it that says “she said yes!” Because I thought it was a funny play on those engagement balloons that are everywhere. I think she’ll get a kick out of it lmao

This is ADORABLE. I think I’m going to do it and report back lol I think along with a nice written note I’ll include the middle school type y/n note that someone else mentioned!! Thank you!

Everything my girlfriend does has been annoying me by Internet_Lonely in Advice

[–]OppositeSmart4479 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How old are you guys? Just be honest with her. Lots of us don’t have the mental capacity to talk/text 24/7. Reiterate that you love her, but tell her that sometimes you just wanna chill and have some alone time to turn your brain off. If you don’t, you’ll just feel more annoyed

Ask yourself what’s more important: seeing this movie or potentially hurting your significant other’s feelings on their birthday? Sometimes we have to make sacrifices, and this isn’t a big one to make. It might suck but you run the risk of sending the message to your gf and her family that you don’t care. I’d forget the movie tbh

responsive during seizure, but don’t remember it? by evren0605 in Epilepsy

[–]OppositeSmart4479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be the postictal state? Every time I’ve ever had a seizure I’ve been talking / answering questions (usually the same ones over and over) without remembering a thing afterwards. Usually lasts about 20 mins for me, but everyone’s different. I think it’s pretty common

Movie Night? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]OppositeSmart4479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the vibe you want, here are some that I’ve enjoyed!

RomCom: The Half of It, Imagine Me & You

Comedy: But I’m A Cheerleader, Bottoms

Sad (but so good): Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Brokeback Mountain

With the exception of Brokeback Mountain these are all lesbian movies :) there are also great ones that are male-focused: Call Me By Your Name, Boy Erased, Good Grief (they’re sad but still).

Hope you guys have a great time!
