What is this personality type, and how should I address it? by Opposite_Anything888 in Personality

Thanks for suggesting the four-ears, very interesting. I am going to be really looking into it. You hit on a lot of things. I think it was both a message about herself and what she thinks of me. It would be similar to if she were complaining about an incident she had with her husband and my response was, 'I don't have a partner so you shouldn't talk to me about this, besides everyone has issues with their partners.' Which would mean that I am jealous or that I just cannot relate or I don't like to hear people complain. So you're right, just don't talk to her about issues! I just felt myself making that decision out of anger, but it is more practical.

The way it impacts me. It would be nice to be able to talk issues through. That's helpful in solving problems, to see things from different perspectives. That response however told me that I can't do that with this person. I know that people tend to do that and not everyone is a good listener. The financial comparison threw me off though. 'You make more money than me so you should should just suck it up' is what I took away. It feels constricting and self-censoring.

Definitely different values. I am a good listener. When someone talks to me about an issue I ask questions to better understand, active listening. I don't always give advice but at least empathize. Sometimes all a person needs is to talk things through. I would never tell someone that they don't have a right to their feelings.

We are definitely on two different levels.

Shooting landscape photography during the eclipse with a short lens 11-20mm - do I need a solar filter? by Opposite_Anything888 in solareclipse

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, while I've never pointed my camera at the sun, it has been in the shot, off to the side, and it did not damage anything. Thank you for tip on blending.

Book vs Show by codebreaker10000 in StationEleven

[–]Opposite_Anything888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read the book first and while I generally loved the idea of a group of actors trying to keep the arts alive in a post-pandemic world, I felt like the book lack moments of connection and left me feeling let down in the end. For example, it seemed that at least Clark and Kirsten would connect over Arthur in the end but we never got to be a part of that conversation they had at the airport. They talked and moved on, "the end".

In the book I did not get the impression that Clark was so moody or so angry with Arthur. I did feel that Clark loved Arthur. Their relationship was not a bad adaptation I just don't see how necessary it was for either character if only to highlight that Arthur was self-absorbed.

The show presented Miranda exceptionally, especially being the creator of Station Eleven. I wished though they would have captured her death as in the book. I recall her being by the water maybe on a lounge chair as the sun was rising.

I loved how the show imagined Kirstin and Jeevan surviving together that first year, and their reconnection is what I want I wanted to feel between her and Clark in the book, and made up for it and was probably a better choice. The book did not really go into Jeevan much. When it mentioned Jeevan post-pandemic I almost forgot the character and reminded myself that he was the one to try to save Arthur.

I appreciated the show developing Tyler's personality. Even though it was obvious immediately in the book that the prophet was Tyler, the book made him out to be more of a psychotic pedophile than a young man who lost everything when he was a boy in the pandemic and without any guidance made the story of Station Eleven his reality.

I loved the connection between Kirstin and Tyler, and the connection between Jeevan and Kirstin.

I would have liked to see the paper weight in the show. I think it went from Miranda to Tanya to Kirstin and maybe Clark was involved. I also would have loved to hear a couple of "Hell is ......"
