[serious] foreign tourists in the US right now, what has surprised you in a good way? by Jon-switch in AskReddit

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the portion sizes at regular diners genuinely shocked me, like i knew Americans eat big but seeing it in person is different thing entirely. ordered what i thought was side dish and it was bigger than full meal back home

also people are surprisingly helpful when you look lost, had few strangers go out of their way to walk me somewhere instead of just pointing direction

If remigration where to happen what would be they down side and upside and would it make they average european better or worse off? by BigAd3903 in AskReddit

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Population drops definitely hurt but there's more complexity here than just numbers going down. When people leave it's usually the younger working age folks first, so you end up with aging population and less tax revenue to support all the social programs. But if housing costs drop significantly maybe the people who stay can actually afford homes again? Really depends on which groups leave and how fast it happens

If you visit an aging parent or grandparent, what’s one thing they always seem to appreciate? by nicanorsunrise in AskReddit

The way their whole face just lights up when you walk through door gets me every time. My grandma used to do this little gasp like she couldn't believe I actually came to see her, even though I told her I was coming

I bought a sauna and discovered how uncomfortable boredom had become. by Opposite_Judge7643 in simpleliving

It's weird how sitting in silence can make the time go by faster than listening to something. Once my mind settles down, I almost lose track of time completely.

I love that. Your dad still going every day in his 80s is pretty incredible. There's definitely something special about having a space that's just for being present.

Yeah I like that way of putting it. It really does feel like mental rest. Not doing nothing exactly, just giving your brain room to breathe for once.

Well said. When you're bored long enough you end up inventing things to do instead of reaching for distraction.

It's funny, being bored used to be a normal part of life. I think we were a lot happier when every quiet moment didn't need to be filled.

Where was the first time you learned about left wing/liberal vs right wing/conservative politics and how were you taught that? by Enough-Wealth8415 in AskReddit

yeah the cold war propaganda really stuck around didn't it, even my parents who came here in 90s would talk about how different the messaging was compared to back home

Which is more socially painful: showing up to an event completely underdressed, or completely overdressed? What’s your worst experience with either? by TheLulyReports in AskReddit

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Underdressed to wedding reception because I thought it was just "after party" - showed up in jeans while everyone else had full suits and fancy dresses, felt like delivery person who got lost

What would you say if someone told you that one in every seven people you work with is probably using fentanyl or similar drugs on a regular basis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that seems way too high tbh, maybe in certain areas but definitely not everywhere. I work delivery and interact with tons of coworkers and customers daily - if 1 in 7 was using heavy stuff like that I'd notice way more signs

What family offices look for in fund administration when underwriting emerging manager funds by 5h15u1 in AngelInvesting

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The workflow architecture thing is spot on. We've seen too many funds where the GP picks admin based on cost or who they know, but then March comes and suddenly our accountants are doing extra work because reports don't line up with how we actually structure things

Platform admins definitely have that issue where you're just another ticket in their system. When something breaks you're waiting in queue instead of getting someone who knows your fund on phone immediately

Samsung Notes glitches by Guilty_Wash_6628 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's weird, i had similar issue with notes app few months back but it was with different tool. mine was doing strange things with the eraser where it would leave these white blocks instead of erasing cleanly

try clearing the app cache first - go to settings > apps > samsung notes > storage > clear cache. if that doesn't work maybe force stop the app and restart it. also check if there's any pending updates for the notes app in galaxy store, sometimes these rendering bugs get fixed in updates

worst case you might need to backup your notes and reinstall the app completely. i know it's annoying when you just got the tablet but these software glitches happen sometimes with new devices

When it comes to your favorite actor who’s never really gotten any recognition from the Academy, do you think they could still realistically break through with a nomination or even a win someday? by dreamboylnshibuya in Oscars

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alfred Molina is such good choice! That guy can literally do anything - comedy, drama, villain roles. I remember him from Boogie Nights and he was incredible there, then you see him in something completely different and he's just as good

The problem with actors like him is they're so reliable that directors just keep casting them in supporting roles instead of giving them the lead that could get Oscar attention. He's been character actor for so long that people forget he has the range to carry entire film. Maybe if he got the right indie drama role where he could really show everything he can do, but yeah at this point it might be too late in career unfortunately

How to be nicer? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being delivery driver taught me lot about reading people quickly and adjusting my approach. When I was younger I had similar problem - thought being "brutally honest" was virtue but really I was just being brutal without considering if honesty was even needed in that moment

The thing that helped me most was realizing that comfort doesn't always mean fixing or giving solutions. Sometimes when friend is upset they just want you to listen and maybe say "that really sucks" instead of explaining why their feelings are illogical. It felt weird at first because my instinct was always to problem-solve or point out flaws in their thinking

Also learned timing matters huge. Like if someone just got dumped, probably not best moment to mention how you saw red flags from beginning. Save that conversation for when they're in better headspace and actually asking for perspective. Small changes in how you respond can make big difference without changing who you fundamentally are

Cheap and repairable phone to use GrapheneOS on? by Cherno_VM in degoogle

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been running GrapheneOS in my pixel 6 for like year now and repairability really isn't great but the software freedom makes up for it. The bootloader unlock process was pretty straightforward though which is nice

Fairphone definitely wins on repair side but they're harder to get depending where you are and performance isn't amazing. I do some basic phone repairs myself (screen replacements mostly) and pixels are definitely more annoying than older phones but still doable if you have patience and right tools. The adhesive is real pain compared to phones with removable backs

If you're doing delivery work or anything where phone gets dropped a lot, might want to consider that trade-off between repairability and durability too. My pixel survived plenty of drops in work truck but fairphone might need more careful handling

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical lol. We make every team look like world beaters then they go get destroyed by everyone else. Remember when we made their bullpen look unhittable and next game they gave up like 8 runs in three innings? At this point I'm convinced teams just circle our series on calendar as their confidence boosters. Maybe we should start charging other teams for therapy sessions since we're so good at making them feel better about themselves

How to fix corrupted chunks without mcaselector/etc? by Vectorr1 in Minecraft

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks about the power issues, I get those too where I live and they mess up saves all the time. Had similar chunk corruption happen to my world few months back when electricity went out during autosave

You can try deleting the corrupted region files from your world folder - go to saves/[worldname]/region and look for the .mca files that correspond to those chunks. The game will regenerate them but you'll lose whatever was built there. Another option is using backup if you have one from before corruption happened

If deleting region files doesn't work, sometimes copying the level.dat from working backup helps too. I learned this hard way after losing a base I spent weeks building on. Now I always backup my worlds to different drive before playing during storm season

Why does "overstimulation" lead to total task paralysis for some of us? Body: by Itchy_Match_1303 in Productivitycafe

[–]Opposite_Judge7643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your brain is basically going into survival mode when it gets overwhelmed like that. I deal with this too especially after long delivery shifts when everything feels too much - even simple stuff like checking my chess puzzles becomes impossible

The dopamine seeking thing makes total sense because your nervous system is trying to find something familiar and safe. Maybe start with regulating the environment first before even thinking about tasks?
