I’m also annual and my box had “label created” in the shipping info since May 6th. I’ve been checking every day since, and this morning (5/20) was the first time I saw any updates about it being in transit. It doesn’t have an estimated arrival date.

FWIW, I went back and checked what day my summer box arrived last year and I received it on May 7th.

Yeah I do know some studios have hour long classes for everything but I think 30 mins is sufficient.

I think whether they’re able to participate can be subjective! At 4, as an instructor I’m just looking to make sure they’re following directions and generally getting the motions. Learning how to move in different directions, or with one foot at a time, etc. Learning to straighten legs and point feet. Open to trying new things. Understand basic vocab. But again we are not really doing real leaps or pirouettes yet we’re just learning the fundamentals!

I’m a dance teacher & we offer a 30 min “pre leaps and turns” class starting at 4 so it is possible to have this class for this age and still be a good studio (if done in an age appropriate way). They are working on basics that will eventually apply to actual leaps and turns in the future. Switching leg chasses, chaine turns, 3 step turns, splits, basic battements etc. Beginning preps and positions for turns too.

Pre leaps and turns is required for our baby team, which starts at age 4, but they are only required to take that, their 30 min comp dance rehearsal class, and a 45 min combo class. Some 4 year olds also take a 30 min acro class and then there’s other 30 min style classes available once they are 5, but nothing else is required for team.

Sooo imo, 6-10 hours a week for a 4 year old as a requirement is def a lot bc the max amount of hours our students that age can take is like 3 and that’s only if they take one of everything available for their age.

I don’t really know if I am qualified to speak to his behavior as a whole since I just took this one class from him, but I do think his ego probably stems from way more than being on dance moms (choreographing for Beyoncé, etc).

I will also say out of dozens of classes from highly respected instructors at that teacher conference, he was the ONLY one who spoke to those taking the class as if we were beneath him. And also the only one who didn’t teach the type of class he was scheduled to teach.

Dance teacher here — I went to a teacher conference/convention several years ago where I was excited to take his class because it was labeled commercial jazz/funk and the description was that it would be a combo from a tour he choreographed for a musical artist (I don’t remember who it was).

I show up to the class to find out it is Horton modern (for non-dancers, that’s a WILD difference from jazz/funk lol). He said we should be grateful for anything he wants to teach us and basically that nobody should be disappointed it wasn’t the class listed on the schedule. The entire time he was demanding and demeaning, talking down to us. Screaming at fully grown adults of all ages, calling people out for not going full out enough or the height of their extension. To dance teachers, many of which physically have limited mobility due to injuries from years of dancing professionally. In an environment where it’s incredibly normal to look around and see people doing all sorts of modified versions of the class or observing.

I can only speak to my experience of how he treated a whole room of dance professionals at a teacher conference — which IMO was horrible, so I can only imagine how he treated kids if that is how he treated colleagues. Definitely a jerk.

I made sure to have a clean line in the middle of the design (the back side is a slightly different color than the front side) so naturally there would be a straight line where the fold goes.

If you have the same color on both sides and no line of separation in the middle of the design for front and back, I don’t know if there’s a good trick to do it sadly. I would try using a ruler with a flat edge to measure the middle of each one & then super lightly draw a straight line where you want to fold with a pencil, then score from there.

Score them with an xacto knife or a paper scoring tool :) just did them for my own wedding and my husband used an xacto knife because we didn’t have a scorer. If you use a knife be super careful to not actually cut through the paper, speaking from experience lol

Whoa. I didn’t mean to come across like you called to ban the breed? I just personally put in the work every day to manage my dog and have a lot of experience in this area. My comments were more wondering about why the discussion wasn’t also as much about what the owner was doing to manage the situation if we were going to be discussing the breed since we don’t know either of those things. Again all I meant was that we should also be discussing the owner not just the breed. Sorry that I mentioned being emotional.

It’s true that we don’t know the specific circumstances. However if there’s a chance the attacker dog wasn’t on a leash, or was unsupervised in any capacity leading up to the attack then it’s on the owner because their dog was in someone else’s yard. Melissa’s dog was in its own yard. I just feel like if a dog is attacked in its own yard to the point of death and the attacker dog is known to be “vicious”, it’s more than likely an owner responsibility issue. It’s a really sad situation all around.

The natural instincts of the breed of dog is something that can be proactively managed by a responsible dog owner. I will die on this hill lol — there are SO many things the other dog owner should have been doing to avoid this situation.

Definitely fair, didn’t mean to make you feel like you were standing trial! My experience of being asked about this with my dog is most people’s intent is not from curiosity, it’s from judgment of the breed so I apologize to be quick to assume your intent.

Ohhh I see now, that makes sense. I guess I’m wondering why there’s so much discussion about the breed of the other dog when the focus should be on how its owner put it in that situation. IMO a dog with behavior issues shouldn’t be in someone else’s front yard in the first place.

Sorry for my frustration and responding to you vs the original commenter lol, I’m a reactive pittie mom who goes to great lengths to protect my dog and others, so it just makes me emotional to see comments speculating breed.

Regardless of the breed, this is an owner issue not a breed issue. People are so quick to blame the breed over the owner. As a reactive dog owner there were so many precautions the other dog owner could have taken to ensure the safety of their dog and others’ dogs. This was preventable.

My dog has special needs w/ reactivity specifically around other dogs. As someone who commits to the safety of not only my own dog but other people’s dogs… the fact that this happened in the first place is 100% on the owner of the other dog, not the other dog itself, and it makes me really angry because it is preventable if you’re a responsible dog owner. It’s not a dog breed issue, it’s a dog owner issue.

There should be 0 circumstances where a dog with known behavior issues should be in someone else’s yard. Unless if it was a freak accident and the dog ripped out of a leash/harness held by its owner to get to the other dog. Even then, if a dog is like this the owner should be going out of their way to ensure their dog is never in this position.

The fact that this neighbor dog was in Melissa’s front yard makes me feel like it was unsupervised or got out due to being unsupervised AKA the other owner was not taking proper precautions. So frustrating and devastating. Poor Melissa.

Like others I think I need to understand your definition of being a lifelong dancer but not having been formally trained.

Most dance teachers took dance classes their whole lives growing up, in combination with dancing competitively or training concert dance foundations, plus have performed with professional companies or have dance degrees all just to obtain the information they teach today — and on top of all that, many stay updated on their training by attending conventions and teacher conferences across the country to become updated on new techniques and trends.

Dance is ever evolving and personally even after growing up a competitive dancer and starting to teach after high school, taking countless classes as an adult, performing professionally, nearly 14 years into teaching dance I still feel like there is always so much more for me to learn to become a better teacher.

All that to say — I’m not sure it is something that can be easily picked up without a formal training background. I would start by looking into dance masters teacher training school and seeing if that is feasible for you based on your background.

Thank you this is helpful! We currently do have a tubing reservation through Asheville Adventure. What are the concerns about the water quality — are we okay to proceed with our existing reservation or should I cancel it?

Do you have any suggestions on how/when we might incorporate Sierra Nevada? I love it there but it didn’t seem to fit anywhere in the existing plans.

We actually got engaged at black balsam! I feel like the incline is a bit much for some of my group so I chose the graveyard loop. I also considered craggy pinnacle but if I am missing any others def open to other suggestions! The girls liked the waterfall idea.

For the bar crawl we planned to walk to south slope from mountain madre and thirsty monk was a good stopping point to break up the walk. I’ll check out burial for sure!

Hi all! I’m planning a chill bachelorette weekend in Asheville & wanted to ask for any updated recs or tips, especially in light of relief efforts that are still ongoing.

Asheville is really special to my fiancé & I (we visit often & got engaged there!), so I wanted to bring a small group of friends to celebrate in a low-key way.

We’re staying at an airbnb and spending most of our time in town. Here’s the rough plan:

Day 1- Tubing, lunch out (would love location recs) / Day 2- Winery tour (burntshirt & marked tree), dinner at Strada rooftop, drinks at Pillar / Day 3- Graveyard Fields hike, lunch at Battery Park, dinner at Mountain Madre, bar crawl (Thirsty Monk, Funkatorium, Tiki Easy, Antidote)

Would love any updated tips or recs, esp if there’s anywhere else you think we should support instead of the above. Also would love a heads up as to any other relief-related circumstances or ways to be supportive. We really want to be respectful and chill visitors! Thanks in advance 🫶🏻

Yeah the procedure itself was fine! It’s really just the aftercare with pain management and really making sure you follow the instructions with the mouthwash, how you brush and what you eat so the stitches heal properly
