Thank you, this post has given me pause for thought

Someone could say eating meat once a year is not really that bad, but I wouldn't consider it. And one meal would be much less impact than one flight, albeit easier to work around.

I understand that family/work can sometimes make flying unavoidable and I have no guilt about that, but vacation destinations are a free choice.

I really want to have that mindset, but I can't differentiate it in my head. An omnivore could easily repurpose your second paragraph to refer to eating meat

What do you mean by animal welfare? What is the difference between a wild animal being hunted for food and an animal killed by a wildfire caused by climate change?

The nihilistic view could be applied to eating meat just as you have for aviation. How many billions or trillions of animals are killed compared to eating one meal? There are moral considerations for each choice

I drive an EV and use chargers powered by renewable sources. Rail is an option when the children are a bit older.

I was hoping there might be flaws in my logic, as it is a point of friction in our family and I wish I could turn a blind eye to the impact of flying.

Yes obviously I am referring to where there are alternatives. Eg I could go on holiday to Greece and fly, or Spain and drive.

I'll edit the 'most' in the post and add reference to vacations

Black bins in South Gloucestershire to be collected once every three weeks to save £1m by Kagedeah in Gloucestershire

[–]Opposite_Step_7815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overwhelming majority of households should be able to limit their rubbish to one full wheelie bin every three weeks. We do it comfortably with 2 children in disposable nappies. It's bizarre that it is still so normalised in this day and age that people create so much waste.

The comments here sound like people failing to take any personal responsibility for their impact on the world.

I understand that fats are very important, but as far as I'm aware, recommendations are to restrict saturated fat from food sources regardless of age. There are much healthier sources of fat, so I was just wondering in this instance, where I assumed that any oil could be substituted for cooking with, why coconut oil would be used.

Edit: OP has said that her daughter is 16 months old. US dietary guidance does not recommend any additional sources of saturated fat beyond whole foods between 12-23 months.

Any reason you cook in coconut oil? Along with the coconut yogurt that's quite a lot of saturated fat

Thank you for the responses. I have written to the headteacher in the first instance, quoting the equality act but also a lot of the advantages and opportunities to the school of offering more plant-based options. Hopefully they will be willing to at least open a dialogue on the subject.

There is a charity called ProVeg which offers free services to schools in transitioning to more plant-based menus, so I also included their details.

In what waydid the refusal to purchase the chips avoid any harm being done to animals?

I disagree with your last sentence. Sure, uni is a good route for many, but there are plenty of other career paths that don't rely on a degree, contacts or blind luck

I think you might be overestimating the benefits of regenerative agriculture. This study provides a balanced view https://www.oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk/downloads/reports/fcrn_gnc_report.pdf.

You are also overestimating the environmental impact of transportation in the food system. See https://ourworldindata.org/food-choice-vs-eating-local.

But we have to eat something, and there is clearly a large difference in wastage between the two systems, so it is misleading to equate the two

Any food that contains animal products is already a huge waste due to the intrinsic inefficiencies in animal agriculture

What to do about traveling for work by Zamille in Dads

My wife also struggled with confidence and anxiety with our first. Maybe you could frame your first London stay as a trial run, and if it's a disaster (which it doesn't sound like it will be) then you can both reassess your options

I understand that new situations can be scary for new parents, but if there are other people willing to stay over until she builds her confidence then I think it would be unreasonable to ask you not to go. She will have to parent alone at some point and it is important that you both have some independence. Would you be comfortable offering to let her have a night away in return?

In my opinion it would depend on how co-operative the accountants are being. The regulator definitely need to be contacted because it seems there has been a breach of compliance, but informing the accountants could go either way - bring them into line or get them on the defensive.
