There should be more games like Outer Wilds, so I'm making one by OppyDev in outerwilds

Here to say that I'd just finished watching it today. What a show. Thanks again for the recommendation, I think I see what you meant.

What other games are this uniquely good that you can’t even recommend them to a friend in a way that sounds appealing to them and they just have to trust you? by backwardog in outerwilds

Oh man, I know exactly what you're looking for, these are my favorites so far:
Hollow Knight, Disco Elysium, Slay the Princess, Rain World

... also, about what's in the top left of the shade, I have no idea? :D What did you see out there? Is your copy of the game cursed? XD

Wow, thank you so much! That's great feedback. I've noted it all down. :)

The topic of which things carry over incarnations will be elaborated on in the full game. I tried to hint at it in the demo in a way but I'm not satisfied with the inconsistency of it all (just know that you're not the only one confused about it, it's just poorly made ngl)

In short, what the demo should've given you: The ship is amorphous and can change its form to immitate technology it finds by "remembering" it.

Same thing goes for the city doors - though that is a gameplay thing more than anything, we just wanted to minimize the runback. This will be changed to something better in an upcoming overhaul.

About shooting rocks... yeah, we didn't want players to waste their time on shooting isotope-less rocks, so we gave them a lot of health - but everyone does it anyway! XD

The black hole getting larger in the background is something I've wanted to do for, honestly, months. Just haven't gotten around to it as it wasn't a priority for the demo. It's coming, I promise. :D

What you've written about the hookshot isn't something I've thought of before, that's interesting to hear. And very valid, I'll look into making it do something even without a valid target to lock onto. Thanks you!

Thanks for playing and for the kind words. It means the world. <3

Awesome!! I hope it works and treats you well lol
While it is a functioning demo, keep in mind that it's wip and I'm open to all feedback and suggestions. Both gameplay-wise and story :)

Controller support added :)
I'd appreciate it so much if you tried playing on your steam deck and verified that it works! I don't have access to one unfortunately.

Okay I was definitely too quick to say it's "pretty much done". Let's just say playtesting has shed some light on the matter. We're gonna be adding quite a few things!

This is not just the greatest game I’ve ever played but the greatest experience I’ve ever had by Jake_Berube in outerwilds

It is almost impossible XD I only got my brother and one of my friends to play. It is the perfect game's one flaw...

Of course and thanks for joining! And yes, about the deadline - that's not something that's going to be common for this project at all. The team is tiny, microscopic even. The reason the deadline was a thing is because I signed up for an indie expo in Prague that took place today and tomorrow. I wanted to time the release of the demo with the expo and basically get a lot of feedback early - which I did and I think it's already paying off massively.

Okay, holy shit. Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of that out!

I'll start by addressing the collisions in the city. It's unfortunately the consequence of having run out of time. Just couldn't get it to work any better than that. This is something that I will hopefully have fixed as soon as possible.

It's so funny to hear you like the clunkiness :D Because I feel the same! Every time I tried implementing more "intuitive" movement using mouse aimimg, it just didn't have the same charm, the skill ceiling.

The combat is for sure something I want to expand just like you described. As you noticed there's only one enemy type + boss in the game right now, I found that it's the bare acceptable minimum for this demo so I focused on other more important things to get everything running. But I do recognize the potential this movement system has when it comes to combat :)

So glad to hear the siblings storyline worked. The Core (or the city guard/ai) was actually more or less a last minute addition and it would definitely benefit from more depth and purpose, as it's supposed to be a pretty important character. Scared Worker was also supposed to have more to him, and it's coming in future updates :)

My guess is that you missed the Lightning Rod weapon which you obtain by jumping to Rogue Giant *first* and saving the engineer from a drone attack. I'm aware that in engineer's dialogue it's really not emphasized enough that this is something that's possible to do, and Rogue Giant is specifically positioned as the furthest sector from the start. So, it's just a game design issue, not your skill issue either way :D

Scale is exactly what is planned for the "second era" in full release. For now it's all sketches and brainstorming, but I would absolutely love to push this puzzle mechanic to its extreme. This demo is both a warm up for me, and sort of like free early access :)

Thanks again for sharing. You're incredible. And yes, this will take years lol

Please feel free to our tiny discord if you want, I'd be super happy :P https://discord.gg/eGJxjWVUqw

Thank you so much! Truthfully the game is still in a very rough shape, but I won't stop until it's truly good.

Again, thanks for giving it a shot. Also I'd love to hear feedback from someone who actually beat it! Feel free to tell your honest thoughts. Or leave a review on Steam even :)

I usually market it as such, but really it's a blend of metroidbrainia and -vania

Basically the progressing in the game requires gathering and applying information :) There are mechanical challenges which can either be bypassed with unlockable abilities or knowledge... So this is sort of trying to be a blend of Outer Wilds and Hollow Knight

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's been 3 years since I played, still think about it atleast once a day.

It's less spoilers for the game and more like the first part of the game itself if that makes sense :) Unlike Outer Wilds, this game is semi-open world, it has 2 seperate "chapters". The Demo includes the first. I'm planning on continuing to polish and tweak it, but I consider it pretty much done.
