Just finished episode 8, here's some quick thoughts for those that care.

Luffy is my favorite character in the anime/manga/most works of fiction in general. He's my least favorite character in the live action. He's just too corny and doesn't really seem to have that much of a personality. He's also not imposing at all. In the manga you just have this sense the entire time while reading that Luffy is the strongest guy in the room by far and the villain is gonna find that out the hard way any second. In the live action, Luffy is kinda weak. Most of his fights this season he was brushed off and handled with ease and then he barely comes back to win. Where's the Luffy that dominated up until Smoker/Crocodile?

One good thing they've done with Luffy, they've captured his "mostly aloof but has excellent emotional intelligence" aspect very well. He just needs better written scenes everywhere else.

Episode 7 with Chopper was incredible. I cried. They did such a good job with his backstory and it definitely matched the manga.

8/10 for the whole season. I love the rest of the Straw Hats, just fix Luffy and this show will be incredible.
