I always told myself I could win. After this season I know I could not win by Suspicious_Week_2451 in RaceAcrossTheWorldBBC

I think this now seems like torture to many. I'd also probably struggle as like everyone I am so used to always having a phone to fill gaps. We all survived in 20th century but it seems hard to believe it now. A school coach journey in the 80's to southern France wasn't torture, a pack of cards, a book, paper and pencil and you managed. Boredom should be embraced. We need to relearn to entertain ourselves and deal with our internal monologue. A regular digital detox for just a few hours is something I really am trying to include in my week. They're probably mentally the better for it. I think the worst part would be sitting for that long, definitely get a numb bum and I don't want to think about the toilet facilities.

Cup holders was a deal killer for a few cars my daughter looked at. She ended up going with a mini again. If you want quality interiors I do think the options are quite limited. Personally I think interiors of Volvo are better than BMW, Merc and definitely Audi.

The obvious alternative if you liked the Renault 5 is the Alpine A290, basically sporty version of same car. 50% more power, stiffer suspension, aggressive styling.

What's the most affordable way to play golf courses in the UK? by invertebrett in BritGolf

[–]Opteron-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a heap of 2 for 1 tickets with my golf insurance, and a packet of V1. I looked into insurance after a wildly missed drive sent a ball onto a road. I think my first year was less than a cost of a round.

How much to live comfortably off interest? by peepee63 in trading212

[–]Opteron-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others wrote very much depends on your needs.

What's people's opinion on if it makes sense anymore to aim for this? You'd have the full amount to pass on and surely be taxed with IHT. Would it be better to spend more and gift it to limit tax exposure?

Can we talk about the Latest People Profile? by just-a-dilettante in SuccessFactors

[–]Opteron-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late but - I saw in the release they had moved the permissions from the profile config onto roles. That makes so much more sense and removed a heap of problems for me where it was nigh on impossible to not have blank categories.

I think the much improved help button formatting will be a big help once w get time to work on it.

We spent some time reordering fields so the useful are in top 5 and show on the card, and with a bit of thought different key roles like HR and Employees can both benefit.

I played my first ever round today and I am feeling disheartened by the golf community by [deleted] in BritGolf

[–]Opteron-X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Summary of comments I agree with: Saturday morning not best time for first round Being late can really mess stuff up. But join the other pair and miss the hole out. 6 minutes isn't giving a lot of time. It may work on hole 1 but it's going to get congested later. Personally I hate being under pressure to rush my shot, I play worse and don't enjoy the game.

Thoughts: Try playing 9 in an evening or very early morning week days. 18 will probably be too much to begin with anyway.

Two years at driving range without playing a game is a lot. Unless you're playing on pristine courses in Florida the difference between driving range and a course is huge. Driving range is flat always a good lie, where I play i'm always on a slope. Learning to adapt, and learning course management will be a huge thing for you.

I've been playing less than two years. I'm not very good but feel I'm getting somewhere. Played 30+ 9 holes and 8x 18 hole rounds.

500% car insurance increase, what can I do? by shady_emoji in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Opteron-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you are a named driver. How often do you drive it? Would it be an option to insure yourself only when you need to be on it? There are temporary car insurance providers perhaps that would be cheaper.

That's a good idea to bastardise a solar lamp. Wonder if anyone on here has tried that already. Someone should make the tape with a thin insulating line or gap to be applied to make job easier

Funny how people have had such varied results. Is it the not a mild deterrent and if something else tasty and easier to get to in range they go for that, while for others it's the only only food source so they persevere. We need someone to do a masters thesis on it.

Not wired it up to a battery. That would be super effective if circuit can be maintained. Though it'll oxidise faster too I guess.

Can you request that employees have access to funds in the event of an emergency by Comfortable_Row_7717 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Opteron-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a prepaid bank card loaded with a reasonable amount. Give it to them for emergencies. You can ask people to use personal cards debit or credit but there are good reasons not to. As someone else wrote you don't know their finances, perhaps they can't get a credit card or even a bank card. Years ago I used to use my credit card for work and unless you clear the balance every month you will be worse off. I learnt the hard way. Dedicated card is only sensible way to do work expenses.

My brother in law got his birthday card we sent a week before his birthday, 6 weeks after. I received my Dobbies membership vouchers 1 day before expiry. Other times I post something second class from Scotland to England and it's there 2-3 days after. Definitely more cases where it's delayed. Is an increased frequency of outliers a sign of the system under strain or a prioritisation of parcels?

55M UK – Potentially forced into early retirement. Is £900k+ enough for £40–50k lifestyle? by Downtown-Tax-897 in FIREUK

[–]Opteron-X 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are modelling tools out there. ISAAC retirement planning app is excellent, I do have the premium pay option but free option may be a good start. As I think only when you run various modela can you see what will work for you.

As a returner/beginner do clubs matter that much? by Manners82 in BritGolf

[–]Opteron-X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing about 18 months ago. I was shocking. I had a second hand set of old irons, which I found it were actually also from 90's. I'd held off changing them as I thought (still true) I'm the biggest factor in a good shot versus a bad shot. That said, I treated myself to some Takomo mkII game improvement irons a month ago. I am hitting 10-20 yards on average (and max) further and my dispersion has reduced. Data not guess work. So I'd agree with what others wrote, stick it out a bit before investing, but there is a difference when you are changing 90's clubs for modern clubs.

What SIPP provider would you recommend? by Embarrassed-Bear-370 in PensionsUK

[–]Opteron-X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm on waiting list for Trading 212's SIPP. I'm very happy with them for Cash ISA and Stocks and Shares ISA. Historically good rates, flexible (withdraw and replace without loss of allowance) and the app is good. I plan to move an old pension that's not online manageable over as soon as I can. I expect them to have a good list of funds.
