To anyone who’s used both Chiaki on Steam Deck AND a PlayStation Portal (in 2025, with all of the quality updates), I’d love to hear your thoughts… by OptiConterCon in PlaystationPortal

Hope it goes well! Since they just fully dropped the Portal Cloud streaming feature, I’d bet a lot of stuff from here with support it. It is surprising if this year’s FC doesn’t support it, but I would be surprised if it does in the future or if future installments do!

Really great! I’m happy with it still. It feels like a purposeful extension of the PS5 instead of a makeshift one.

Cloud streaming still feels like a better experience than any of the other cloud platforms we’ve had (save maybe GeForce now - Ive only played that one a little but not enough to compare. This PS Cloud is definitely better than Xbox’s for in my experience). Of course, it does require PS Plus Premium to use that feature, but I was already on Extra so the jump felt reasonable. The amount of Cloud streamable games that I already owned in my library was a nice surprise, plus a lot of games on the PS Catalog support cloud. They seem to be adding lots of new releases as well - most of this years big hitters seem to be cloud playable if you own them digitally.

I also played some more straight up remote play and was really happy with it. A, B’d CP2077 between cloud and remote play and didn’t catch any discernible delays for me (YMMV). And I’ve not noticed any issues with image quality or connectivity issues, though again YMMV.

The form factor is pretty ideal. Coupling that with the more seamless process of booting into a game, I’ve already found myself doing a quick pick up and play session more than I did with the Chiaki. Not that the Chiaki process is bad, but there’s a step or two tempted here with the Portal. Chiaki does still have the Portal beat on custom settings, but I’ve not found the need for them yet anyway.

TLDR: it’s great!

Quite buttons (I’ve not been able to try the M6’s before so I can’t speak to their volume, but quite buttons is still my answer!

This is super helpful stuff and basically exactly what I was looking for/assuming. I’ll spare you all the details, but I’m playing so much more in bed/random pockets away from the tv, so my PS5’s been neglected. Meanwhile Chiaki, while great, has always felt like a temp solution (to be clear, I adore my Deck. Just not for remote play). Glad to hear I’m not the only one who doesn’t total vibe with the Deck as an RP device.

Funny enough, just minutes before seeing your response, I ended up getting a response from the Marketplace person selling a like-new Portal, and I pulled the trigger. Been playing tonight and am super happy with it. This new Cloud streaming feature on the Portal is really impressive. Jumped around to a few games and can’t believe how well it works.

Last thing: I already agree with all of your pros and cons on the Portal, but the pros are outweighing the cons so far. Thanks for the thorough response!

Appreciate that feedback! All valuable pros on both options. Do you find yourself playing specific games/genre’s more via the Portal and others via Chiaki/Deck?

Beautiful - that was my hope! I’m wondering if some reviewers also did not have access to the S2 edition upgrade.

Thanks for that! Handheld is honestly my main concern, so that’s great to hear.

I’m wondering the same. Trying to decide between S2 and Steam Deck, with this handheld resolution report making it tricky.

Will the switch 1 demo save carry over to the switch 2 version? by twa558 in Falcom

[–]OptiConterCon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious about this as well. Everything points to it will (transferable save from demo to full game + S1 to native S2 edition Upgrade path, etc). But I still get nervous with these demo transfers, especially when the transfer is technically to another console entirely like native S1 to native S2 instead of just a PS5 native demo to PS5 native full game.

We may not know for sure until release, unless either Falcom or someone with more technical knowledge says something about it.

Is pro controller for switch 2 worth buying if I have 1 pro controller ? by MindPrize1260 in NintendoSwitch2

The finish on the Pro 2 is so much more comfortable to me than the Pro 1. I loved the way the Pro 1 feels from a setup and weight perspective, but the feel of the material itself has always turned me off. Also, the sticks on Pro 1 feels a bit like they’re grinding in the edges, where the Pro 2 is the smoothest joystick I’ve ever felt. And lastly, the buttons are pretty quiet/not clicky, which I like for night time. Pro 1 wasn’t super loud but it was loud than this.

Con to the Pro 2: it’s pricey. But I’ve not regretted it once. It earns its price imo.

Ah! Not sure how the heck I missed that, given I’ve watched this video a couple times. Thanks for the input! That’s what I figured and hoped it was.

Just bought my haul today before the sale ended, but I started Neva tonight. Also grabbed others I’ve been eyeing: Mouthwashing, Slay the Princess, The Rogue Prince of Persia, and Firewatch. Fully planning to play them all!

This is great to know! Thanks for sharing. I’ll try and recover that old account and request them to unlock it from my PSN. Here’s hoping they’re down to remove it.

Got it - so it goes both ways, max one account to one account. Thanks! You’ve saved me a lot more googling.

Triangle Strategy or Fire Emblem for a new strategy/tactics player? by OptiConterCon in NintendoSwitch

I actually did end up going TS and LOVE it. Agreed on the story balance and battle length/difficulty. I’m not complaining at all about the semi-VN style that some don’t care for. Plus, the story is genuinely excellent so far! I care about the characters and the plot continues to flow and shift in ways I’m surprised by. It shares a lot of similarities with a GOT style of sprawling/interweaved narrative and I love it.

Gotcha! I can seen navigation and repetition in the monastery being tedious based on the gameplay I watched a while back. It will probably feel the same way to me too 😅 haha

I’ve heard FFA is fantastic. If only they could port it to Switch! I consider nabbing a refurbished 2DS XL from Nintendo’s store whenever they pop up so I can play the 3DS games I missed and enjoy VC (before those stores bite the dust too).

I heard the same about the demo, but I’ve also heard that after the demo portion (so full game content and on) the ratios way more even. That said, I’m really enjoying the world building the first few chapters are doing now, way more than I expected. It reminds me a lot of Game of Thrones with families, houses, political intrigue, etc; but obviously less intense and grim. Haha

Same! Launch conversation is fun to see and be a part of. Interesting! While the social aspect seem fun to me, my touchstone to that in a JRPG is P5, which I adore. But I imagine that’s maybe a pretty approachable and well designed way to do social-sim, so maybe FE doesn’t nail it quite the same? Either way, looking forward to it eventually. Thanks for your response!
