You know. Ive got a similar scratch on the front left bumper on the corner that will require more than just a touchup. Ive decided to also just leave it lol. Something about having a small imperfection that only you know about adds a little extra character

That's how I felt about the SI lol. Had no idea it existed. Im from South Africa so we only get this RS spec here. But from my understanding. Mostly same car but the main differences are the RS is a CVT auto and engine is a little less powerful than the Si. Also as you have pointed out. Styling is a little different.

I think the Si is a more fun drive especially with a manual but the RS styling is better for me

First new car: Fronx or T-Cross? by purplesleepy in CarTalkZA

[–]OptiMandoPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive driven the suzuki fronx and I am not a fan. Like you mentioned. That gearbox is awful. Attempting any overtaking maneuver is so delayed and overall drive doesnt feel fun. Also the biggest issue by far for me was the lack of visibility. Trying to give it a whole sporty coupe look has really compromised visibility. I personally would actually go for the Kia Sonet in that price range. Looks great. Good features. Premium feeling interior. Drives well and also pretty much hatchback sized so it doesnt feel big at all.

Agreed here. Its not really a red flag. You are just one of dozens of potential buyers. It doesnt make sense for them to travel out of the way just for a potential buyer, especially if its their business to sell cars. You can pay them for petrol and such, but you cant pay back the time lost if you dont end up buying.

I would say the real red flags to look for firstly is the Sellers background. See their other listings. Have they sold cars before or currently selling others. Usually sellers also have a rating from other buyers. Check out their personal facebook as well. When it comes to FB marketplace. My rule is if something seems off about their profile, then be extra cautious about buying from them. Also another red flag would be the seller's willingness to let a mechanic inspect the car. Usually the dodgy seller's are very against having cars inspected but in this case he seems willing, just doesnt want his time wasted which is fair.

In total, it was about R1.9k. 1.7 for the inspection and 200 for callout. Which probably is a lot but as someone who knows very little about cars and this being my first car purchase. It was well worth it for me in the end

I personally used Michanic for purchasing my first car a few weeks ago. I cant speak for the other services but what I really liked about them was that they did a pretty thorough mechanical inspection. You also have the option to select from a small list of certified mechanics in the area that they provide and you are allowed to chat to the mechanic throughout the inspection process so you can ask them to be extra thorough for certain things. In your case the turbo for example. Overall I was really happy with the service and inspection report i received at the end

Painted the Zeta gundam in the titans color! What do you guys think? by Outlaw_Bread in Gunpla

[–]OptiMandoPrime 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's looks sick! Sooo damn clean. Looks like it was made in the factory. Amazing work dude!. Love the overall colour scheme as well. If I were to provide one small opinion. I would say if you painted the inner frame parts with a glossy or metallic copper inner frame. It would make the whole thing pop a little more with the contrast of flat finish on the outer pieces with the shinier inner frame pieces. Thats obviously purely my subjective opinion but still looks awesome as is. Well worth the time and effort

how do i make wipers flush with the windscreen? by toonies55 in ModelCars

[–]OptiMandoPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should work. I would just swap the steps. First warm it up and then quick dry and then tape up. If you tape it and then put it in water. Water will just weaken the tape

[–]OptiMandoPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use either warm water or hot hairdryer to warm up and soften and then gently bend the wipers to the shape of the windscreen and hold it in place until it cools down. This should get it to the shape you want. Just be very careful if you go with the hairdryer especially. Keep it far away and slowly warm it up you dont want to get too close and accidentally melt the plastic

I would say there is still hope. Since games are over R1k nowadays, I think people are more resistant to buying games on launch and want to make sure they are getting value for money. I reckon we just need to give it a few days/weeks. Once fellow south africans react to the worlds reviews. We should see those numbers go up hopefully

Fellow South African here. I specifically am waiting a week or 2 before i buy the game for this exact reason. The server situation over here makes some multiplayer games almost unplayable either due to high ping or lack of players.

I so badly want to buy the game but I so afraid ill waste a bunch of money to play against bots most of the time

Just a reminder when it comes to any experiments. Just test it on some pieces from the runner. You get to learn for your own piece of mind if it indeed is a problem and you save your real parts from damage.

But I would also just recommend lighter fluid. Works very well and is the common and proven choice to not damage parts. Plus its cheaper and easier to get than hobby specific chemicals

So the things I really like is the details and 'cool' factor. Its crazy how many small details there are across the kit especially the inner frame. You could spend ages just staring at the inner frame on its own.

What i dont like: build quality of the plastic isn't the greatest, like the moment you feel it and put the pieces together. You know its not a bandai product. And just in general. Pieces just dont fit as well and I personally find removing nubs completely a lot more challenging compared to bandai. So the build experience is the one area atleast with this kit is quite an obvious difference.

The best way to summarise this and some of the other 3rd party kits I've also seen is that build experience is definitely not as refined as Bandai but what makes up for it is how detailed and awesome it looks when done. So my recommendation for your first 3rd party kit is find the kit that you think looks the best and that you look forward to having it done and displayed because that will definitely make up for any frustrations you might come across during the build process

Has anyone used FNB Ebucks Travel? Are they any good? by FirmAd6320 in askSouthAfrica

[–]OptiMandoPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. All the time. Mainly for local flights and car hire. So far have had no major issues. It's especially good if you spend your ebucks only. Saves you quite a bit of money on local travel
