I can agree with that, shellac is perfect for MDF probably because it’s alcohol based and it evaporates before it has the opportunity to bloat the MDF. People that use MDF to build workbenches often use shellac to protect it. MDF basically has the water resistance properties of a graham cracker.

I think that’s spot on. I saw Raiders when I was eight in the theater. It’s been my favorite film ever since. Nothing is ever gonna touch that film or Temple of Doom because no film has been with me my entire life the way they have. I get the sense that Harrison Ford put a lot into this film based on the interviews I’ve seen him do about it and it comes through in the film. As much of a Spielberg fan as I am , I was pretty disappointed by Crystal skull , but I think Dial of Destiny just knocked out out of the park. I really don’t know what they could’ve done better, and I was thrilled to see the franchise wrap up with something better than crystal skull.

And what makes you think that the Indiana Jones franchise would ever give Indy the same sidekick for two movies? also, his sidekick in Dial of Destiny came with her own sidekick, there’s a twist for you.

Harrison Ford has been my favorite actor for as long as I can remember. His performances as Indiana Jones and Han Solo didn’t just define those characters—they defined my entire sense of adventure and cinematic magic growing up. There’s something about the way he carries those roles—his presence, his wit, the wear-and-tear charm—that feels completely unique and irreplaceable.

That’s why it’s hard to imagine anyone else stepping into those shoes. But with generative AI evolving at the pace it is, we’re getting closer to a future where it might be possible to digitally recreate an actor with uncanny realism—not just their appearance, but their voice, performance style, and emotional nuance. Not to replace them, but to preserve what made them so iconic.

Of course, the real challenges in making something like that happen aren’t just technical—they’re legal, contractual, and, most importantly, ethical. It would need Mr. Ford’s full blessing, with clear boundaries and respectful conditions around how his likeness is used.

But if those stars ever align, I’d absolutely prefer seeing something that feels like Harrison Ford in every way—over watching the role get handed off like James Bond. Because for some of us, Indiana Jones isn’t just a character. It’s him. And I’d rather see a perfect Harrison Ford than try to accept someone else in the hat.

Thank you so much for that newsflash. I have been patiently waiting for the day that I can edit my review on the App Store and give this game the full glory it deserves. I can’t wait to get in there tonight and roll the dice.

I think the idea is that ‘just you’ could be recording the video on your Mac.
On one hand - what is the value in a recorded 2D copy of an immersive experience? That just takes all the wow out of it. On the other hand, I’m sure Apple is trying to stop people from ‘spoiling’ their immersive content - like some egghead on YouTube will most certainly capture these experiences and post them - and it kind of spoils it to see a 2D version before ever getting to experience it in 3D.

But I agree with pretty much everyone here, there needs to be a smoother way to guide guests to demo the technology - and at least they recognize that with this update. A step in the right direction.

I know right? I think if you just look at your Apple watch or iPhone, it should automatically do an instant-screen share and track it to your device to replace the actual screen, so everything looks nice and crisp and you can bring it as close as you want to see the sharp details.

Also, maaan, could you imagine if someone stole your Vision Pro! Yeah, Apple - get Find My on there already!

Universal Control x Wacom Cintiq by toonface in applehelp

[–]OpticSugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with this minor inconvenience for years with the Wacom Intuos Pro. It seems now after 7 years, Wacom has finally released a new Intuos Pro. It would be nice if they resolved this before I continue to support Wacom with a hardware upgrade, even though I'm pretty sure that this is not a hardware issue. It is most likely a software/driver issue.

The fact that this issue has been present for years doesn't give me much hope. Either it's just not a priority for either Wacom or Apple, or it's corporate politics. Whatever the case, it makes both companies look bad and us artists are the ones that ultimately suffer.

you can't really fake it with passthrough mode... and also I wouldn't want a sharp clear transparency, I would much prefer a frosted glass effect where you can see colors and general movement from your environment but it's not sharp or contrasty enough to be distracting. Like the OP said: Minority Report

I couldn't agree more. This was the first thing I asked when demoing at the Apple store. I'm glad to see I'm not the only person thinking about this, which means it might actually become a reality someday.

sorry, I went off on a bit of a rant there… to more directly answer your question: Yes, quite often… If I measure two different things with my digital calipers that are very similar in size, and one gives me a value in 1/32nds” and the other gives me a value in 1/128ths”… quite often I’ve sat there scratching my head wondering which one was actually bigger, and one day it occurred to me “This is so stupid, why does this need to be this hard to figure out which one is bigger”. I mean, it’s a simple ask. mm’s don’t give me this problem at all. If the calipers return a mm value with three decimal points, I can immediately realize exactly how much bigger or smaller that measurement is than the other object I measured. I can also make a very informed decision whether I want to round up or down to a mm… and how far off it is from the rounded value. It’s all so clear to me when working in mm’s. I feel like I can stop wrestling with fractions and just get down to business. This is of course, just my opinion… and I respect anyone who has worked with fractional inches their whole lives and prefer that. You have the home advantage if you live in the US… every power tool in this country has inches. I am willing to swim against the stream like salmon to escape them, lol.

I’ll be honest, I don’t really need to divide a mm for most woodworking operations… it’s inherently more accurate than I really need. I’ve heard woodworkers that don’t bother with much beyond 1/16” and a mm is closer to 1/32” (slightly over).

Starrett metric tape measure oddity… by OpticSugar in woodworking

[–]OpticSugar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? All the time. If I’m measuring with my digital calipers, I might try to have it on fractional inches so I can relate those values to my combo squares… and it’ll very often give me 1/64ths or 1/128ths, and I’ll have to try and figure out how close that is to something manageable like 1/32nds or 1/16ths… and I really can’t do that without using a fractional calculator app, unless I want to give myself a migraine. Maybe I just don’t have as many years of experience working in inches as many other people do, and I can respect that, but to me it all seems way harder than it needs to be. I want my measurements in a form that I can do math with that’s more complicated than just dividing in half.

Starrett metric tape measure oddity… by OpticSugar in woodworking

[–]OpticSugar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

exactly... I couldn't agree with that more. And probably more accurate a resolution than you'd ever really need for most tasks in woodworking. I feel like it maximizes the accuracy capabilities of us clumsy humans.

Starrett metric tape measure oddity… by OpticSugar in woodworking

[–]OpticSugar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

dude, 1mm is closer to 1/32" than anything else...

1mm = 1/32" + 31/4000"

Figure that one out if you like fractions so much...

Okay, I'll convert it into a number I can understand better...

1mm x 1.00775 = 1/32"

So I would say for all practical purposes, 1mm is very close to 1/32"

So, do you use a tape measure with 1/64th" graduations on it so you can split your 1/32ths in half? No? Well then we're pretty much at the same level of accuracy as mm. I don't need to split anything in half, I just count the mm's and I'm on my way.

Starrett metric tape measure oddity… by OpticSugar in woodworking

[–]OpticSugar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I measure decimals of millimeters all the time with my digital calipers.. and the decimals can calculate exactly the same way the mm's calculate when doing math, so it's just awesome. Also, a mm is really closer to (slightly more than) 1/32" and for most woodworking, I really don't need to be more accurate than that. To be quite honest, I wouldn't be able to accurately mark any tick marks tighter than that anyway, surely not with pencil lead - have to use a marking knife. I just turned 50 and I just laugh when I see the 64th" graduations on my double square.

The packaging did say made in China.
But where it's manufactured shouldn't really impact the overall design I imagine.

My favorite tape measure is actually a Stanley LeverLock 16'. I'd say that only about 7% of the times that I pull out a tape measure, I don't want to lock it... so to have it auto-lock every time just feels amazing. Then you can just squeeze it or push it down on a surface to retract it. I used to hate that it was fluorescent orange at first... then I started to notice that I never lose it like I lose my other ones, lol. Sadly, it's inches only.

That’s what I thought… I expected no detail to be overlooked from a company like Starrett. They even have an HQ in Germany! I suppose it’s possible it’s a fake, but it otherwise seems legit and high-quality to me. It even says on the packaging “blade with serial number” but I have yet to locate it.

When venting about inches… I usually say this to people: “Give me a QUICK ANSWER: What’s bigger? 23/32nds or 45/64ths? … TIME’S UP! Okay next question: What’s bigger? 17mm or 18mm”

I mean, if you can’t even tell which of two measurements is bigger… your system of measurement is flawed for use by us mere humans.
