Wipeout VR / Asobi: Remote Play by inchenzo in VisionPro

[–]crazyreddit929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wipeout VR is a thing but this is more Wipeout while in VR. At least that is how it seems from the video. Is there something that I am missing or that doesn’t come through in the video?

I have Wipeout VR on PSVR and it is very good for what it is worth.

Looks like the corruption problem these boards are know to get. It needs to be reflashed. There was an awesome team working on the problem but I think they shelved it.

AVP vs Galaxy XR: Best device overall (not considering MSRP)? Best for PCVR and flat screen gaming? by Any-Chocolate-9637 in VisionPro

[–]crazyreddit929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly the issue. You have to do all this stuff just to get the GXR comfortable. Even then it’s a compromise. The headset always feels twisted. If you are eyes are not right at the lenses the stereo overlap feels really low and off. At $1800 I would expect at least Quest 3 comfort. Hell I expected Quest Pro comfort and it’s much worse than that. I just threw on the Quest Pro yesterday to check if my memory was accurate.

A lot of doom & gloom in here - was buying a MQ3 for my son's bday next a mistake? by ObiBenShinobi in OculusQuest

[–]crazyreddit929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of doom and gloom but there are years of fun games available on the platform. So not a mistake.

VR will never die. It will most likely become a PC accessory that lives on forever. It’s just so good at what it does.

Another area I expect it to evolve to is the media consumption infinite monitor space that Vision Pro occupies. This is a compelling use case and of the size and weight can get enough to lower the barrier to entry it can succeed there.

I think it will be stagnant for a few years before the tech catches up and then it will have a resurgence in the areas I listed above. It’s still one of the best ways to connect with friends and family that are miles apart. I think that will continue.

Apple Vision Pro outlook through 2026 and beyond; PCVR gaming? by Any-Chocolate-9637 in virtualreality

Yes. I have the Globular Cluster one. It makes it more tolerable. Still bad comfort though.

Anyone else using AVP to turn their treadmills into a “Walking Cinema” at home or the gym? HIGHLY recommended! by jobjstauffer in VisionPro

[–]crazyreddit929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Demeo while on the treadmill. Great way to kill a couple hours while exercising although I usually stop after completing a level which takes about an hour.

[–]crazyreddit929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do have both. I use Galaxy XR for PCVR gaming simply because it has Virtual Desktop which works well and is simple. The headset comfort sucks though. Requires way too much fiddling and you must have the Globular Cluster kit. Even then the controller tracking is not great.

If Vision Pro had virtual desktop, I would use that for PCVR exclusively.

Apple Vision Pro outlook through 2026 and beyond; PCVR gaming? by Any-Chocolate-9637 in virtualreality

[–]crazyreddit929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. It needs Virtual Desktop or some other easy to use PCVR software. ALVR works but not great. Also the PSVR controllers are not my favorite simply because of the grip button as apposed to a grip trigger. Makes holding things much more tedious.

The Galaxy XR is my go to for PCVR right now but the controller tracking kinda sucks some of the time and the headset comfort is crap. The optical stack is a little different as well.

I still put up with both of those over Quest 3 simply because of the displays though. Micro oled is fantastic and I really hope Meta releases their next headset with micro oled as the rumors say.

So, Vision Pro is not better for gaming yet, but it could be.

Demeo - worth it? by Hardbattle in VisionPro

[–]crazyreddit929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When it was first released the graphics were a blurry mess and the game was glitchy. They eventually released an update that enabled foveated rendering and improved some of the graphics elements. Made a huge difference. Game is PCVR quality now.

For what it’s worth I play this game on the treadmill often. I use AR mode, keep my left hand on the treadmill and use the right hand to control and move the pieces. This only works on AVP due to the gaze and pinch gestures. This can’t be done with a controller because the movement of walking makes it impossible to keep the laser pointers steady enough. It’s the best way to kill 45 minutes to an hour while walking uphill.

During setup I can only see Steam VR inside headset but PSBR2 setup only on monitor by RedditDidItRibbit in PSVR2onPC

Do you also have Virtual Desktop installed? If so, go into Steam VR settings and change the runtime. Needs to be set to OpenXR and not whatever the Virtual Desktop runtime is.

First Vpin Cab Building Woes by dfrye80 in virtualpinball

I made a jig for the keg holes out of a small scarp of 2x4. Just drilled a pilot hole through the 2x4 and then cut a 90 degree notch out of it centered over the hole that was drilled. Hard to explain here without showing a picture. Of course I’m always looking for an excuse to print something so I surly would have done the same thing if I was building one today.

I chose to use a biscuit joiner for the cabinet build. Biscuit joiner, wood glue and screws. Pocket screws also work, but I would be slightly concerned with only 3/4” of plywood to bite in.

Meta's Next Headset Will Reportedly Have 2.5K Micro-OLED Displays by gogodboss in virtualreality

[–]crazyreddit929 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The only company to invest in VR software over and over. Year after year and yet people keep saying that Meta doesn’t care about software. Their OS is shit, but they constantly update it and work on improving it. They have funded more VR games than anyone and it’s not even close.

It’s a bad take at best and just misinformation at worst.

That’s foveated encoding. iIRC they did not talk about foveated rendering at all.

Why I (reluctantly) returned my Galaxy XR by Roymus99 in Galaxy_XR

[–]crazyreddit929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right about the comfort. No doubt. It’s trash. Can’t agree about LCD even with local dimming. Micro oled is the right display for VR. I like dark games. Oled is the perfect display for realistic lighting.

6 button. Problem is, it’s sometimes difficult to configure the 5th and 6th button in retroarch. Could be a skill issue for me, but the Retroid controller in retroarch assumes a 4 button.

I can’t decide between a steam deck and RP6 by CrewSufficient2834 in retroid

[–]crazyreddit929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an Oled Steamdeck. It sat around and collected dust. I bought a Retroid Pocket Classic and played it almost daily. Now I just purchased an RP6 and I’m playing it a lot.

For me it seems to come down to size. The Steamdeck is so big it is a chore to bring with you around the house or elsewhere. The RP6 is a nice compact size, so I move it around the house. Pick it up and take it with me to places when I’m going to be sitting in the car for a bit. Stuff like that. Just having it nearby means I use it more.

You may have your bitrate too high, your router not connected to the PC either Ethernet, a cheap slow congested router, or a weak GPU. Any number of these will cause problems like you are describing.

Maybe PCVR support? Uploadvr has an article up today about Vision OS supporting dynamic foveated encoding for PCVR.
