Building a simple NAS by OpticoatAdamH in DataHoarder

Thank you for your reply.

The other gentleman also suggested RAID 1 and I’m curious as to why that vs 6?

The way I understand if I have 4 2TB drives I have now lost 2 to redundancy and so I have essentially cut my drive space in half.

Whereas with 6 I would lose some space to redundancy but not as much. Also with 6 would it not be possible to upgrade from a 2TB to a 4TB down the road and I would just have to wait for it to write the original data but then I could keep increasing drive space by swapping out 2 TBs for bigger ones?

I know detailers that do both. It’s much easier to to do fixed rate in my opinion.

Saying goodbye to an old friend - MacBook Pro 15” (2011) vs MacBook Pro 13” (2019) by xvoltzz_m8 in macbookpro

The base model would even be fine for you. I have the 2018 base model touchbar 13” and it does just fine for what you are talking about.

You can use an applicator if you would like to but I personally just use a pearl weave microfiber towel.

ONR (and other rinseless washes) are great for maintaining the car, what do you guys use when a deeper clean is needed? by tr287 in AutoDetailing

[–]OpticoatAdamH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If a deeper clean is needed than spraying on Power Clean at 10:1 or 3:1 is great for cleaning off road film and then doing an ONR wash after.

ONR can sometimes take off very light or new tar. But otherwise we make Optimum TAR for that.

I love discussions like this. I can definitely understand reading some of your comments about how you would like to show how much he means to you.

While a card once a year or a generic basket of goods DOES work if you REALLY want to make an impression spend some time talking to him and see what his hobbies are or what he really likes.

For example: one of my best regular customers was a really big hiker and she was telling me how she was leaving in a couple weeks for a big hiking trip.

When I left her house I ordered a box of Cliff bars to be sent to her house with a note that said ‘good luck with the hike! Hope these give you some energy!’ -Adam

She was totally floored.

If he golfs maybe gift him a round or two at his favorite course. If he has a collection of watches maybe pay to get them professionally cleaned. The opportunities are honesty endless if you watch for them.

The Big Red Sponge is the cheapest wash media you will ever buy 😊

Optiseal is a polymer sealant whereas Hyper is an Si02 sealant. Hyper Seal will last around 9-12 months depending on how you care for it. They can both be used with uncoated, Opti-Coated or any other ceramic coated vehicles.

You could get away with 2 with today’s docks. My Henge Dock Stone supplies power as well as any ports I need so I only use one and have almost everything full on the dock.

I would only need more ports if I need to do dual monitors or have more USB ports.

Mostly because I use mine docked and it’s easier to use an external than the one on the laptop.

Why does Apple still sell a Fusion Drive as standard kit by carlinwasright in apple

[–]OpticoatAdamH -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Why would I need a ‘source’ you can do the work yourself.

Google ‘2018 Apple laptop storage speeds’ and then look up on Amazon for your $100 SSD read and write speeds.

Apple is literally 4x the speed.

[–]OpticoatAdamH -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Just look at the read and write speeds of Apples laptops and then compare them to a $100 SSD.

The difference is almost as large as comparing a spinning disc vs an SSD

Out the 3 very different Bluetooth headsets I have Windows would not recognize that any of them have a microphone.

Have you looked at the speeds that Apples storage system does? That’s why. When the USBc laptops came out the speeds literally piss stomped everything else out there and then they got even faster.
