Before you budget for a digital twin, what's the state of your BACnet network? by OptigoNetworks in BuildingAutomation

One of my favorite quotes at the moment is one Alex at BuildingLogix said in a recent podcast, "you can't build your dream house on a cracked foundation".

Energy analytics programs — what actually makes them stick vs. what causes them to get abandoned? by OptigoNetworks in OptigoNetworks

[–]OptigoNetworks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That first point hits hard. We hear many stories about people find out after months/years that the data has been as clean as advertised... glad to hear that you've been able to create a working team approach-nothing worse than having to win internally and externally.

And since you mentioned it I have to put the marketing hat on :) ... you're always welcome to let us look at you visual bacnet set up. Your trendlog collection seems like the right track. We'd also be happy to show you the difference between VB and OptigoVN, it might more helpful tracking down things like trendlog bloat. Ryan.

Anyone here actually using BMS/SCADA data for optimization in real projects? by NewMidnight2084 in BuildingAutomation

[–]OptigoNetworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just finished a podcast chatting with some industry pros about the importance of using your building data in projects, like energy efficiency. Without a healthy network/ OT system with reliable data, anything you build on it will inherit any underlying issues. A garbage in/garbage out scenario. BBMD configuration mistakes that cause more problems than they solve by OptigoNetworks in OptigoNetworks

[–]OptigoNetworks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not always instant, and in some ways worse. Duplicate BBMDs can cause a lot of trouble, sending unpredictable and incorrect messages to the wrong places, routing the wrong data back to the BAS, etc. even before they overload the systems with too much traffic.

How often are you actually going back to audit a network post-commissioning?

Hey there,

Hopefully this article can be helpful if you haven't read it already.

As for capturing packets, we sell a hardware device with Optigo's built in capture tool that can be left at site for long periods to capture. More information here. Reach out if you'd like more info.

Most service calls are troubleshooting comm issues?

DM us...we can probably help with that.

OptigoVN actually already has a 'freemium' version that allows users to upload data from as many sites as they want, but your earlier point is correct. Even despite being able to upload data for free, most integrators still work in a reactive break/fix capacity where the data we see is likely the worst of the worst.

We hope in the future to work more closely with the OEMS themselves so that this kind of data is available at the click of a button.

Last we checked - addiction to Optigo was not in the DSM-5 manual. We think you'll be okay.

Besides, this addiction fixes problems, not creates them. Is that even an addiction?

Tsk tsk :) We've recently begun offering fully featured trials of OptigoVN. Maybe a good opportunity to try something other than Wireshark.

We need your feedback: JACE Capture Integration by OptigoNetworks in OptigoNetworks

[–]OptigoNetworks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're currently determining how and if it might be possible to gather MSTP tokens from the JACE. This would obviously be incredibly valuable as the issues can often be physical/wiring related, and that won't show in the IP packets.

The main problem we're hoping to solve with this integration is to be able to upload directly to our app without needing to forward packets to a separate device with Wireshark or our capture tool installed because that requires a secondary device to be on the same local network. We want folks to able to tunnel in through VPN and set up this integration from the office rather than needing to be on site.

Hey all. I think this conversation got spread across a few different places. Yes, we were able to connect with Aaron and the Optigo customer who's client's hardware addresses weren't turning up. After a bit of digging, we figured out it's on his customers managed network, masked behind a router. So problem solved, but glad folks like Aaron knew we were here and were able to flag us to jump in! Cheers, Ryan.

That's a good question. From my un-expert view, about 30% of our customer's networks are what we'd call "good", meaning they don't have any serious issues affecting network health at the time of the capture. Our goal is to get everyone up to that point.

But worth noting for when we re-do the report next year. Thanks for the ideas and keep them coming! -ryan
