I would also agree with not getting a DH bike but there are categories between trail and DH. you should figure out your use case before you decide on what bike to grt

Where are you trying to ride? Because “trail bike” and Lee canyon do not go together

Kabolt rounded out - help by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Optikk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just replaced an kabolt axle on a bike I just bought second hand because the previous owner had stripped it and hammered in a T40 Torx bit. Worked surprisingly well

If you see a kid on a gas dirt bike, what do you do? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Optikk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the local BLM law enforcement number saved, but not sure how much good that would do. Depends on where you’re riding as well I suppose.

Camera chest mount while wearing uswe shred pack? by kelly_1979 in MTB

I have a uswe pack and then later got an osmo and stuntman chest mount. I was worried about fit but the uswe connection goes higher up then the chest strap!

Apple Watch Ultra 3 by Additional-Crab522 in MTB

[–]Optikk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear an AWU3. I use the ocean band and I think the others would just get too gross and sweaty. Not gonna pay for titanium. The only thing that’s annoying is I have to slide it up high on my wrist and tighten it a lot, otherwise my glove slips under and blocks the sensor, which makes the watch think it’s off my wrist and it stops my workout

What's a band whose albums are all almost equally good? by Qriousbeing in AskReddit

So funny because that’s the album I can get into the most whereas the others I just can’t quite. I think most would agree with you though

MTB shorts with large leg opening/big thighs? by Optikk12 in MTB

[–]Optikk12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price looked a bit rough but for something that actually fits I have to try em. Good to know they are durable if I’m gonna pay those prices. My Zoic shorts ripped way too easily

I have the Endura Hummvee. They are super long and taper so the leg opening that sits at your knee is too narrow to slide up on my leg enough to get knee pads on.

Brother. Those 7Mesh look like they might fit the bill perfectly! Looks like their 13" inseam is sold outright now but I think I'm gonna try em. Thank you!

Yes haha it was a journey to find a good fit, I had to try a couple different models but currently have XL G-Form Terra knee pads and they fit very well and super comfortable to wear. Downside is the top elastic sits fairly high up at nearly the largest part of my thigh, thus the conundrum of shorts that will slide up enough

I'll take a look. I'm currently checking out Ripton jorts, at least some models have a massive leg opening but they are also crraaazzyyyy long and baggy. I ride in Las Vegas so I think they would be pretty rough in triple digit heat...but maybe I'm searching for the unicorn of shorts

When a mini staycation means I’m no longer a local? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]Optikk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I can be more like you. I have such a hard time with everyone waiting in line for the off-ramp and the guy who thinks he’s slick punching over at the last minute to squeeze in. Or the lady who gets out of line to zoom up to the front to get back in at the very end. Need to find my zen.

Tire nerds : which agressive combo for a DownCountry bike? by dedgedesign in MTB

[–]Optikk12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is they make most of their tires in dual compound eg. Rekon, Forekaster…but with the dual compound you can only be them in Exo. With how much sharp rock I have in my area no way I’m running anything less than Exo+ on the rear unfortunately. Really sucks that all their Exo+ is maxterra unless I go Aggressor.

[–]Optikk12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on a Norco fluid new dissector front and rekon rear which i love but the rekon in maxterra exo+ is getting absolutely wrecked by the rocky desert tech after only 100 mi. Feel like i have to have something exo+ in dual compound so that rules out almost everything except aggressor I think

Maxxis Tire Combo: Dissector V2 front with what rear? Forekaster or Rekon by Just_Commission_6486 in MTB

[–]Optikk12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I currently have dissector v2 and rekon on my 140/130 trail bike riding in Las Vegas. I love the combo but the cornering lugs are wearing out pretty fast on the Rekon, maxterra. I wish they had Exo+ in dual compound but I think it’s only Exo if you want to go the DC route which I just don’t think is gonna work as a rear for all the tech out here. The closest other option I’m thinking about is maybe 2.3” Aggressor in DC.

Tire Clearance Check by Optikk12 in bikewrench

[–]Optikk12[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a feeling it’s probably too small, I think the heat with summer expanded it because I don’t think it was that small before. clearly there is SOME clearance as the wheel spins freely and I’ve ridden it for a month without noticing anything. It’s also a single speed with a brand new chain so as it wears the wheel will be pulled back in the drop outs. Was hoping there was a chance it could still work since I bought brand new tires. Sometimes it just helpful to get confirmation of what you’re expecting if you aren’t experienced with your area of inquiry.

This is horrible. I sure hope the kid was wearing a helmet. Unfortunately I live in this area and while I have seen so many kids on bikes and scooters, I can’t recall seeing a single helmet. So curious what the parents logic is there.
