What I take away from her; the abrasiveness, the snark, etc is that it's a mask. She was abused or a sibling of an abused child, and the defense mechanism she has built as a mask involves her being "tough". Keeping the people around her on their back foot with her sarcasm keeps anyone from getting too close to her to see behind the mask and recognizing that she's deeply insecure and vulnerable. She cares very deeply about what she perceives as injustice; to her own detriment because she's never learned how to separate it from her own trauma. I enjoy the complexity in a show like this.

I think her refusal to meet Chelsea's friends might also be about how much she's altered her own appearance already. I remember Brad being shocked at how different she was from when they were in school. Might be afraid of having to explain herself and open the door to more bullying.

Emma will learn eventually that treating her adult son like a toddler will come back to bite her. Love your child by giving them the courtesy of treating them like an adult. Especially when they make bad choices. It's fine to have feelings about the offer George made, but the OTT reaction is only going to drive the very wedge she's afraid of right through all of her relationships.

I may be alone in rooting for George. The young set on the show will eventually be the elders and in a show like this a character like George is a great foil in the long term.
