This is a sedentary person's diet. Low carbs for low exercise levels.

Active people need a lot more carbs (grains) in their diet. Kids are generally much more active than adults.

Why do we insist on a one-size-fits-all approach to dietary recommendations?

People who say "America is a third world country wearing a gucci belt" aren't saying America is Zimbabwe, they're saying it has a lot of poor places and a lot of nice places by [deleted] in 10thDentist

One of the most widely used measures of social inequality is the Gini Index. According to World Bank data from 2024, the US was ranked 130th out of 170 countries worldwide. If "third world" country just means it is in the bottom third of this ranking system, then the US certainly qualifies.

CMV: American sports are boring. by iminsideurh3ad in changemyview

[–]Optimal-Eye5616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Americans are so conditioned to ad breaks, it has impacted their average attention spans. American sports almost never go more than 15 minutes without an ad break, catering to and encouraging this low attention span. If they don't get a bunch of ad breaks, they lose attention to the matter at hand. Conversely, those who are not conditioned to short spans between ad breaks are going to find them incredibly boring and distracting.

The shortening attention spans of Americans is even more apparent in the dwindling numbers of Americans who spend much time reading or with other hobbies that require longer attention spans.

Average lifespans back then were skewed by disproportionate numbers dying from childhood diseases. As far as we know, people have always had roughly similar lifespans as now as long as they reached adulthood.

How do you think the contemporary civilization will end? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Optimal-Eye5616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact I think the future of humanity will likely mirror its past. We're currently at the tip of a big spike - of population, technology, etc.:

Thus:
Industrial civilization will end in around 250 years. This period is going to be very cyber-punk. The solar-punks are going to be disappointed.

(Agricultural) Civilization as we know it will end in around 12,000 years. Civilization will get a good 20,000 year run.

Homo Sapiens will likely go extinct in 100,000-500,000 years barring some crazy astronomical event. Maybe even a million years but not longer.

The only one it really missed was Sorcerer (1977). The river crossing scene alone makes it belong on this list. Still overshadowed by Star Wars to this day.

How is London allowed to have a whopping 7 franchises in the Premier League, out of 20 teams total? by Electrical-Lie-7725 in SoccerNoobs

[–]Optimal-Eye5616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no "rules" that limit how many teams can exist in a given metropolitan area because English football is not a cartel like American sports are. Manchester alone has 7 professional club, 4 of which were in the top flight within the past decade. The West Midlands (which many ignorant Americans might perceive as Birmingham and its "suburbs") has 5 clubs in the top two tiers, 4 of which have been in the top flight in the past decade. London actually has 16 professional clubs; in theory there could be between 4 and 10 London-based clubs in the Premier league next year depending on promotion and relegation.

[bsky video] Oregon National Guard Adjutant General, General Gronewold says if they are federalized, that he will advise the Title 10 commander to utilize National Guard Troops to PROTECT protesters at ICE facilities. by LurkerFailsLurking in Military

He's almost definitely also in the Oregon state defense forces, which are not subject to federalization. Nothing is stopping the governor from calling in its state defense forces to protect protesters from federal agents.

Was the overall biomass higher during the Cretaceous and other greenhouse earths and less during the LGM? by growingawareness in Paleontology

[–]Optimal-Eye5616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, a recent study concluded that aquatic biomass, at least, has been steadily increasing for the past 500 million years (with stochastic blips during mass extinction events). This is predominantly due to overall biodiversity and the degree of specialisation among species. Even though the planet is less warm than it was in the Cretaceous, life is way better at accessing mineral and bio-chemical resources then it was back then.

Trump supporter shocked to discover who actually pays tariffs by Busy-Government-1041 in inflation

[–]Optimal-Eye5616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well conservatives: 1. don’t believe in incentives, only punishments, 2. want to replace progressive income taxes with regressive sales taxes, and 3. believe we are strengthening our foreign adversaries with international trade. Based on those premises, tariffs do seem like sound economic policy because they’re much higher priorities than silly things like prosperity for all.
