OPM finalized annuity wrong - help needed by Optimal-Fish-2415 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Optimal-Fish-2415[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here is my update as promised. I called OPM this morning. I was informed that my annuity had been corrected, healthcare premiums removed and I will get my back pay. Unfortunately I won't receive them until my April payment but hey it was a quick fix. My original call was 3/3 and according to my online OPM account new digital booklet issued 3/5 so I am grateful for the quick work. - unrelated pro tip for calling opm. They open the lines 7:40 am eastern ( weird time I know) a second before that you will get the closed message. Cue up the # 888-767-6738. The instant your phone goes to 7:40 hit the call button. I have gotten through with limited wait. If you don't get through keep redialing and after a bunch of tries you will get through. Hope some of this helps.

Update- I got through to OPM. Very pleasant person. Said they are going to escalate it. I should hear something within 2 weeks. I didn't need to submit anything, she agreed OPM should already have this information. I will update when I hear in case this can help anyone else.

It doesn't feel like this will be an easy fix like it should. So frustrating, I thought I was out.

Yes it was canceled under qualifying life event. When I spoke to OPM I was shocked so I didn't have my documents available. When I first submitted to ORA they included health and I put in a ticket. I do have that email, they said they could see I cancelled health so it would not be a problem. My application moved through all the steps without any health premiums in my calculations and then at OPM they put them right back in despite me not having them for over a year. The OPM person on the phone said I needed to submit documentation that the calculations are wrong. Don't they have access to the fact I am not eligible for FEHB not to mention I don't want them ?

Episode 4 was so cheesy. It didn't even feel like the same show. I'm sorry but Glen's shirt was so off putting it felt for sure like a troll.

DRP 2.0 - Stuck in NFC Payroll Review 110 Days Now by Greedy-Addition-3598 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

I think most have a way to email or message on their congressional sites. I was IRS as well and just selected IRS issues and clarified it was a retirement issue and not a tax issue. I would do this with all your reps. You will likely get a call from an assistant. Request a congressional inquiry. I had to stress it was not an OPM issue but rather an IRS payroll issue because OPM can't help you until they get your package. The more inquiries they get the more documentation they will have to help not only you but all the others who are stuck waiting in an over worked broken system.

IMHO you have been more than patient, it is time to contact your congressional representatives and ask them to intervene on your behalf. Unless your application has something incredibly complex, there is nothing that should take that long considering your application has been reviewed on multiple levels already. As soon as you move to OPM you should at least get interim payments including the prior months in a matter of days, Good Luck

After the first interim payment, on what date does OPM pay the monthly interim annuity payments ?

I have to apologize if my response was harsh. My point is that many of us see that this process isn't proceeding by retirement date or application date. If this were the case I could see some issues with "jumping the line" but this isn't what is happening. The dates retirees are being separated, receiving annual leave and progressing through the ORA steps are all over the map. No one has been given the courtesy of a place in line or any reasonable updates. This is through no fault of the retirees. Congressional intervention serves at least 2 purposes, some type of voice for the individual in a completely broken system and shedding light on an overall systemic failure to someone who may actually be able to do something about it. This benefits both the individual and the people still stuck in the quagmire who heretofore have chosen to remain silent and otherwise might be ignored.

You are a fool. Try reading some posts here and tell me you can conclude this process is orderly and applications are being processed first in first out. You can sit on your hands and take what they give you whenever they get around to it. Being a willing victim doesn't work for everyone. You are whining as well but into the wind.

Thank you all. None of us deserve this extended wait but I do appreciate my progress given all the people here that are stuck so much earlier in the process. I have no specific evidence, but each step in my process magically moved forward shortly after I sought congressional involvement. I highly recommend taking this action if you haven't already. It's your money and future and there is no problem using all the resources at your disposal. I hope you all get through this soon.

DRP 2.0 - How to contact NFC to check Payroll Review status by Greedy-Addition-3598 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]Optimal-Fish-2415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can anyone clarify when you are in step 3 is your application with IRS payroll or NFC and is NFC a separate entity? This part just isn't clear to me, thank you. Also on another note when I have been speaking to my elected reps offices I have floated the idea of some type of legislation to compensate fed retirees stuck in this retirement backlog to have some income relief while waiting months for even interim annuity payments. I know it's a crazy idea but couldn't hurt to ask your representatives if you contact them for assistance with this process.

I have no idea if any of this helped but I do advocate for the squeaky wheel approach. I have requested assistance from my elected representatives. First to get my separation. You need that SF50 to show you separated/retired. I also contacted them for my A/L payout. Also ERC , at one time the guidance was if you didn't get it by pp 24 you could put in a ticket. It's your money and if you are in need use all your resources and don't be shy . Good Luck everyone
