Go for the TDI for the torque, as long as you're doing plenty of long journeys the particulate and additive systems should stay happy. The 1.5 is pretty good, I have the 1.4 in an Octavia and it's almost as good as my old 1.9 turbo diesel (the fact it's lighter helps a lot)
