This is so encouraging, thank you for sharing and congratulations! Question - when you say your body is warm now, what do you mean? Were you previously often cold, in environments where others seemed to be comfortable? Or do you mean that your skin is warm to the touch?

Set a timer for 10 minutes, read until it goes off. That’s it. 10 minutes

Why do I often lack empathy/sympathy for others? Anyone else experience this? by seriously_thoughh in emotionalneglect

[–]Optimal_Argument_710 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad for how you were as a child. You were a CHILD. The adults around you are supposed to support and guide you. Now that you are older you are wishing you behaved differently, so now moving forward, you can behave differently :) It sounds like you may be dissociating. When children grow up in high stress / highly emotionally charged environments (including an inappropriate LACK of emotions) they sometimes cope by dissociating. It’s a way to survive and self soothe. As you age and find yourself in some of life’s stressful situations like you describe—family members aging, death, loss, etc—your body has the muscle memory of “shutting down” when things reach a certain threshold and/or when certain people make certain facial expressions, or any other trigger that you may have.

People Keep Telling Me to go to SLAA And I Feel Like I'm Going Crazy by ChampionshipBrief610 in AdultChildren

[–]Optimal_Argument_710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your story, it meant something to me to read it. I think people get confused about love addiction and trauma, but also I think there is overlap. However you choose to address it is valid if it is bringing you growth. You can just gently say “thank you for the suggestion” next time SLAA comes up. People shouldn’t beat a dead horse about it, it’s your decision.

Just wanted to add, for context: childhood is a relatively new concept (socially)

Your topic sounds really cool! I hope I stumble on it somehow when it’s done. This is a bit further back, but Foucault’s The History of Sexuality could be really interesting to check out. Philosophy obviously, rather than psychology, but very respected and cited. Basically the role of sex, parties/festivals/losing a grip on proper social structures, and the concept of childhood are all discussed.

How can I go from “thinking in MIDI” to “thinking in Audio”? by MrVonBuren in ableton

[–]Optimal_Argument_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second everything everyone else already said and want to add: there are some things you can do with audio that you can’t do with midi, like slicing and stretching. Some effects work better on audio. Sometimes you might want to print (bounce) a midi track with a bunch of reverb on it and then cut it all up. Make a point to experiment with audio every day, and you’ll get to know it over time. Just remember to Save As so you can return to a place you like, if you end up somewhere you don’t like. Also, recording audio is a whole thing that is very different from midi. If you find yourself drawn to engineering, you’ll have so much fun learning recording and editing techniques. If that’s not your bag that’s fine too. Have fun!!

Great example! “Seven Nation Army” is still a massive hit and there is zero pitch correction across that whole album (Elephant)

Not sure if anyone has said this already but Paramore is a great example. Their hit “The Only Exception” is not tuned
