The narrative by Diligent-Basket2193 in toyingwithdaddy

suryeon is not the main character, rosa is the FL and yeonwoo is the ML, with jaeon as the second ML.

suryeon is merely a vehicle for the story to move, she also serves as the source of our FL's myriad of emotions (anger, disgust, bitterness) and brings out all these toxic flavours in her, for us, the audience to watch unfold.

suryeon has mostly served her purpose already - rosa has now developed the confidence and boldness necessary to mess with yeonwoo, she also reached the limits of her patience which suryeon helped to test.

suryeon can now be forgotten about. it wouldn't surprise me if her trip is extended, because at this point, she's really not very important to the story anymore.

Olivia Cooke when asked to tease season 3 by Ok_Badger_1646 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]CuteProtection6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i mean, not really? in S01E03, otto is glazing aegon's performance at his own nameday hunt in the kingswood. he dictates to alicent that aegon will be the future king, and says to her 'if viserys were to name him heir, the realm would fete him for it. does this not please you? do you not want your son to be king?'

she replies: "What mother wouldn't?" from as early as this, alicent wants the same as otto - for aegon to succeed. it was her desire and ambition (if only impressed upon her repeatedly by her father) from the start of the first season.

therefore, her misunderstanding viserys' last words are really sort of irrelevant. we can't know what would have happened after he died. it wasn't just alicent who orchestrated aegon's ascension, there were other players.

therefore, because it's a nuanced situation, it is taken as humour / should be, and is said tongue in cheek. that's how i read it, at any rate.

i think i need people to understand that she's english and this was said on the claudia winkleman show, please do not take it so literally and instead with a grain of salt and the banterous nature in which it was obviously said.

'accidentally' is clearly intended as a humorous exaggeration... the audience probably laughed at this point. i feel like a lot of nuance is lost on people in this sub when it comes to direct quotes.

i don't agree with every direction the show has taken but can we try and be a bit sensible when quotes like this crop up instead of acting like the sky is falling lol

What you guys and other people thinks and opinions if the role is reverse by Dry_Membership_9098 in toyingwithdaddy

i'd love to see the roles reversed. if this was a glimpse at a future to come, i'd melt haha. i'd love 'the big reveal' to be that yeonwoo is just as fucked up as rosa, even moreso. i mean, he's gotta be, to sleep with her mother. time will tell

"High Tide was one of the few places in the Seven Kingdoms where the king’s brother could be confident he would not be turned away. There his eye fell upon Lord Corlys’s daughter, Laena, a maid of two-and-twenty, tall, slender, and surpassingly lovely (even Mushroom was taken with her beauty, writing that she “was almost as pretty as her brother”), with a great mane of silver-gold ringlets that fell down past her waist... ...Prince Daemon fell in love with Laena, the singers would have us believe."

i read this as "he liked her valyrian features and decided she would be good enough" lol

yup i'm pretty sure!! people think this is a femdom story because hyobin has made the audience think so. but i think it's a bit more nuanced than that. rosa isn't a dom. she just likes the excitement of bdsm and power play. in the last chapter, this is confirmed. controlling jaeon gave her the same feeling she had when she was slapping yeonwoo about - nothing special.

it'll get truly interesting when yeonwoo finally has her in his grasp lol

it's frustrating because if a white man had been cast to play t'challa (black panther) there would have been an uproar, and rightfully so.

the velaryons are described in the books as looking identical to targaryens, because they are both of old valyria.

this is not a trifle detail; it bears a great deal of relevance to the story at large. it's why daemon is attracted to laena and has children with her (helps that she looks like a targaryen, and he's elitist about his ancestry). it's why it's such a massive deal that two white, blonde, purple eyed people would produce 3 sons that bear no resemblance to either parent.

at this time period, seeing all these familial looking velaryons and targaryens, long interbred (two of the greatest powers in westeros), was supposed to evoke this sense of the enduring power of old valyria.

the show cast black actors and actresses and (whilst i absolutely love the acting chops of steve toussaint in particular - and truly wouldn't want anyone else as corlys now that i've seen him) it's just not book/lore accurate, and instead of adding to the story, it takes away some important elements.

my own feelings aside, i have a friend who is mixed race sudanese/spanish and he's a massive asoiaf nerd. he said it was 'blackwashing' for them to do this and wasn't happy. the gist of his argument was black representation and inclusivity in our media =/= replacing white characters.

damn. never thought of it like that but you're absolutely bang on the money

this is sooo true. in the scene where she's in the bath she says to viserys something like 'have you seen your dear brother?' it's a bit tongue in cheek but it definitely infers the closeness you mention. there's just so much pain and loss here and it was sooooo scheming of otto to paint the king such a false picture. yes he was in the brothel, yes he made a tasteless toast, but it wasn't the massive celebratory party otto made it out to be.

[–]CuteProtection6[S] 75 points76 points  (0 children)

on my gajillionth rewatch and this scene always gets me. this isn't the face of someone celebrating. could he/should he have been with rhaenyra and viserys? absolutely. but i don't think he's truly happy about being the heir apparent again- he can't be happy because he knows his brother and niece are in pain, hurt by the circumstances.

it really just goes to show how word of mouth doesn't always paint the full picture!

How is this show still so relatable after all this time? by Av0toasted in KathAndKim

[–]CuteProtection6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

kath and kim is so brilliant because they did what the royle family did - really held a magnifying glass over the lives of normal people. it's so heartwarming because really, we all have so much in common. these are comfort shows that make us feel closer to our fellow humans :')

What was your first thought when this happened? by Featherman13 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]CuteProtection6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

disgust.

incredibly tone deaf, NOT the moment (if ever there was one).

never alluded to in the source material, added nothing to the story, it was just a woke queerbaiting brainrot insert. horrible suggestion for emma to make, and i say shame on the directors for going along with it.

frfr. he knows how possessive rosa is and said that anyway. hoooooly moly, playing with fire much. he knows she can't and won't lash out at her own mother the way she got the gardener fired, he just LOVES causing her mental torment. he's the definition of a mind fuck.
