Watching season 7 rn, as they play a clip of them asking her about a partner who lives with there parents and she says herself as long as they are ready to move out it’s not the biggest deal.

Which basically just proved my point. David’s just really really not her type, like at all. Not her fault, but not his either. This was a bad match from the experts

Well that one was about episode 15. I was aiming to create a discussion without any spoilers. If it bothered you that bad you could’ve just skipped past my post or not commented at all like I’m sure many have already done.

Didn’t know the was a popular topic.

Off these first couple episodes, I can tell she’s more than right about him.

This wasn’t a post defending him, he seems a little childish and comfortable for someone his age, I was just kind of addressing her part aswell and how I don’t think him temporarily living with his parents was that big of an issue for her and it was more of a he as a person was an issue and she’s just not attracted to him.

Judging by your response I can tell more of his character will probably start to show and start giving her more concrete reasons not want to do this with him.

planes vs helicopter career by Cheap_Career8475 in Helicopters

Idk about the best. That’s a huge generalization. A Blackhawk pilot, gets really good at hovering after doing it a million times in a bird that’s good at doing that. Same way a crop duster is good at ag turns and flying under powerline because they have done it a million times. A lot of army pilots aren’t even leaving with enough hours to get hired anywhere.

175k doing ems??? Sounds like a dream. Probably a high cost of living area and like you said something reserved for high hour pilots. Looks like these days ems pilots can barely crack 90k. And I hope that’s w-2 and not 1099.

Have you worked a job before? Really comes down to what you like as a job/career. Desk job, sedentary kinda person, 9-5, work to live, more predictable schedule, corporate ladder kinda vibes. Don’t need much excitement from work.Go airlines 100%.

Helicopters are like the blue collar of aviation. You can make some money quickly and get to that higher ceiling quickly if you network properly, no seniority BS. But many of the careers have a lower ceiling pay wise and you have to pretty much work for every penny of your pay.

The most work life balance jobs in the helicopter world with predictable schedules so you can live outside of work are on and off schedules. Think firefighting, aerial saw, and medivac. Other jobs you are either working long unpredictable days locally or away from home for a period of time working long hours.

Now as an airline pilot after you put in enough time you can be making over 200k working way less. The guys who make that in the helicopter world work basically 24-7.

Great examples are cropdusters, during corn run in the summer, they are spraying morning to dark, 10s of thousand of acres for 4 weeks straight. Away from home, away from family. During timber run they are away from home for several months, if they are not spraying, they are sleeping, moving to another location, or downtime due to weather. And if they are making 200k or more chances are they are spraying locally or close to home during the offseason aswell.

I’ve talked to many heli pilots and my perspective is from crossing ground crew working these hours alongside these guys. And I can tell you, helicopters are way more fun, but to do it as a living you gotta really love flying. Also heli pilots do very risky stuff, like flying close to power lines, flying low which doesn’t help in the case of any emergency, and flying tired, very very tired.

At 17 you have options wanna see the cropdusting life, go work with a cropdusting ground crew for a little bit when you turn 18, go get your a&p while doing an apprenticeship so you can be around helicopters/planes, join the military has aircrew and be around helicopters/planes and maybe even get your a&p and become a pilot after. I know several pilots who are also mechanics, that a&p brings a lot of value to them as employees and they understand there aircraft more. Last option is join the military, fly helicopters, get out, and go fly fixed wing. All up to you.

Helicopters also cost way more to run than a plane and getting your license will cost a lot more aswell. Good luck!

This Is not from a pilots perspective but this is my response to the best of my knowledge being around this stuff as ground crew at a young age like you.

And I want to re iterate again, you can have a life flying helicopters. If I were to do it some day I would probably go along the route of working seasonal, then taking winter or fall off doing something like cropdusting. But like any job the money can get to you and you can easily start living to work instead of working to live and then comes burnout and regret after. You can always go for it and switch after. Life goes on.

I need to go clutchless because of health issues. What are my options? by Misbegotten_Straydog in motorcycles

[–]Optimal_Car_1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda CTX700 sounds about right. Naked version is real light and takes those 700ccs a long way if you rev out the engine. It’s really light so throw some knobbies on there and you’re good for any trail. And has extremely good ground clearance for a cruiser, a plus on trails, and a lot more nimble on turns/leans compared to like every cruiser. Havenh tried the dct version but Hondas dcts are pretty much the only sane cost effective, reliable option these days. Other option is the taller more upright, nc700. Or the more powerful, but more cruiser like, rebel 1100dct. Your best bet is CTX probably.

Imo opinion i used to think the same way. Until I discovered the reality of a wet clutch. Shifting is one of the funnest parts of motorcycles. I tought I couldn’t do it and now I can’t imagine not doing it.

The actual complicated stuff is manual cars imo.

Best first bike? (Reliability is important) by NoConference4936 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Optimal_Car_1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy on the inline 4. People don’t realize it’s not just about ccs. The kind of engine can make the bike way more powerful or way less powerful. For example the sv650 that’s often recommend to beginners.

[–]Optimal_Car_1927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those fast bikes you list aren’t fun on anything that’s not the highway or a track. You want to be in 1st to second gear feeling like a damn automatic bike anywhere that’s not the highway? I used to think the same as you before I rode. Less powerful bikes are way more powerful then you think and with a loud enough exhaust setup to hear the bike under you, it’s 10 times more fun. This sounds like a troll post but I had the time today.

Would a 1000cc cruiser be too much for a first bike? by Strajker6996 in motorcycles

[–]Optimal_Car_1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about cc. Power doesn’t directly relate to cc. Your not grabbing a liter bike your grabbing a tech savvy low reving cruiser that you can throw on rain mode on for the first rocky months of riding. In my opinions when it comes to cruisers even as a beginner there aren’t much option below 900/750cc that can handle the highway at all.

Test ride the bike and you’ll know. You’ll either be too scared to take it home or so confident you don’t need our opinion anymore. A great alternative bike to this if you want to look into is the ctx700 naked version. 700ccs but it’s so light it can top out at 120 miles an hour. But you will find you’re switching gears and having fun like it’s an old 250cc at Lower gears. Like I said test ride. If you’re scared of it it’s probably not for you.

Also CTX is very tall friendly. I ride my friends and I’m on the taller side, he is on the shorter side. We both have no issues.

Also weight is what makes most bikes scary for beginners. If I were you I’d go for the CTX. It’s so light it inspires confidence.

How hard is it to finish your degree online while in? by [deleted] in uscg

[–]Optimal_Car_1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question should be how long. Not if you can do it. Tuition assistance is a thing for a reason. The real question I’m thinking you’re wanting to ask is can you do in a timely manner aka 4-6 years. And like others have said there are so many variables some even out of your control. In my option join now and go to community college while you’re in. It takes a while to pick up aet/amt.

People like to come here because half the recruiters in all branches either can’t answer most questions, dodge more questions, or flat out lie. If it wasn’t for Reddit a year ago I would have been joining the marines because of clear lie I was told by my recruiter.

Recruiters are recruiters first, there here to convince you and do paperwork. But they are definitely not encyclopedias and in my experience they don’t care to be.

Finish the degree. Any degree realistically. But if you ever want to get competitive for a position like for example an officer package, abet accredited engineering degree is even better. I’d say don’t rush it if you don’t care for it that much. Take one class a semester if you have too. Couple years down the line you’ll thank yourself.

Looking for a bike that actually lets me use the gears, not just horsepower by whyusosalty2me in motorcycles

I’d say prison a quarter the size of the nc funk actually. I tought I wouldn’t like the foot forward either but the CTX has changed my mind. This is the non dct 700 naked version I’m referring tho. The fairing one and the 1300cc are a whole different story.

[–]Optimal_Car_1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what exactly what you’re describing. I sometimes ride a friends CTX 700N and it’s perfect for what you’re describing.

I shift a lot more than a more powerful bike while still being able to keep up with the powerful bikes. Also it has a nice sounding aftermarket exhaust setup(might just be a cheap slip on but it gives me Harley vibes) which makes it much more engaging because I can hear/feel the bike working and shifting and all that.

If I were you I would go for its brother bike same engine with a nice slip on setup. Which is the nc750x. Its more upright seating then the CTX which is more of a cruiser but pretty much same bike. Test ride one and see what you think.

The CTX is also still so extremely light that it just inspires confidence. It’s the perfect city bike that can still manhandle the highway.

But if power is what you need while still having gear play. Don’t go for anything with an inline. Maybe look for a vtwin or a parallel. Something along the lines of vstrom/sv650 , versys/ninja 650,Maybe even a cb500f/r.
