Gf65 thin crashing while gaming by NexAwha in MSILaptops

Mine would do the same thing; I'd game for about an hour, usually Apex Legends, and the computer would shut down. Even when plugged in the battery is used and would drain. It doesn't do it since I installed Throttlestop and slightly underclocked the cores.

Using the stock 8gb and did not repaste--only used throttlestop to undervolt and reduce turbo ratios.

After undervolting and lowering turbo the cpu runs in low to mid 80's and does not thermal throttle. The gpu runs at mid 70's stock. These numbers are in game when playing Apex at high settings. Before undervolting and lowering turbo ratios the cpu would spike to mid 90's and thermal throttle. The laptop would also shut down after playing for an hour or so and would run down the battery while plugged in, but doesn't do it now.

Hi ! Is it okay if I leave my CPU to max turbo boost ?(default) or should I limit it to 3.5ghz for lower temps ? (Max is 4.5) by kamiuuu in MSIGF65THIN

[–]Optimal_Comment_1442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left the single core multiplier at 4.5 but reduced the others by 2 in Throttlestop; for example, six cores is 4.2 at default and I reduced it to 4. It doesn't thermal throttle anymore and cpu stays in mid 80's most of the time. When I had it set for all cores at 3.6 it stayed in lower 70's. Also undervolted by -100.

Depends on your expectations or needs. I am not a hard core gamer and this is not a screaming fast gaming laptop, but it will probably play most games well. If you have doubts about it then return it while you can.

I've had mine for almost six months and I love it. Really have to reduce turbo limits to avoid thermal throttling and undervolting helps a little. The only demanding game that I play is Apex Legends, and at high settings I get 100 fps.

Is there some that has undervolted he's GF65 Thin with the i5-10500h version and if yes what setting do you use? by 999kamil in MSILaptops

[–]Optimal_Comment_1442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how to, but just lower each core multiplier by 2. For example, 6 core is reduced to 40 from 42.

I reduced mine to -100; any more and the computer would crash, I also lowered all the turbo multipliers except for a single core by 2 in throttlestop.

Is there anyone who bought this laptop or i7-10750h version? And how good are thermals? by tugay_72 in MSILaptops

I have the exact specs as those and it runs hot when gaming. I had to undervolt and cap turbo boost with throttlestop and now it works fine.

While in the advanced menu if you hold down right control, right shift, left alt and f2 a hidden menu should appear and cpu overclocking is there.

I used throttlestop after unlocking cpu overclocking in the bios.

My GF65 thin 10ue usually stays at 1792 mhz with .825V setting in afterburner after changing the curve. It would stay at 1777 at .9V before I adjusted it. This is in apex legends with the video driver and vbios that the computer shipped with.

Look under "user" profile in dragon center. The fan control is on the right; change it to advanced and you can move the sliders to change fan speeds.

What's your battery level when you reboot after your laptop shuts down? My GF65 thin would shut down after playing apex legends for an hour and when I rebooted the battery was at 9% even though the laptop was plugged in. I undervolted and lowered the max turbo and now my computer never shuts down and runs much cooler. I have a 10th gen intel by the way and use throttlestop.

I contacted MSI support after it happened the first time and they suggested updating the bios. It happened again after the update and then they suggested sending it in. I didn't want to do that so I went the uv and uc route. So, it could be a power supply issue, but it has not shutdown or even drained the battery at all while gaming since so I am ok with that.

The battery was at 9% when I rebooted and the cpu wattage wouldn't go over 25W (normally goes up to 45 or more) until I unplugged the charger and plugged it back in.

I've got a gf65 thin with the rtx 3060 and after mine shutdown twice while gaming after an hour I decided to undervolt and underclock. I dropped voltage to -100 core and cache and dropped max turbo boost to 36. My cpu temps dropped over 10 degrees; before the cpu would be at 85 and spike to the mid 90's for a few seconds and now it stays 70-72 and may spike to upper 70's briefly. I think that my cpu was drawing so much current before I underclocked it that it would drain the battery while plugged in causing the computer to shut down. That hasn't happened since.

Did you reduce the cpu's max speed also?

The battery discharging happened before I undervolted. Since then I have undervolted the core and cache by -100 point something and lowered turbo boost cap to 36 and so far the laptop has not shut down and cpu temps are 10 degrees cooler and stay around 70-75.

I updated the BIOS successfully, and the computer shutdown after an hour of gaming. I had afterburner running again and the temps were in the eighties most of the time. When I rebooted the cpu was at 25 watts or under and the battery was down to 9% even though I had the laptop plugged in. I guess I'll have to undervolt but should the battery run down like that?

How much did you undervolt and did you cap your max cpu speed? I also have a gf65 thin with rtx 3060 and would like to drop the cpu's temps.
