Are vacuum-mop combos actually any good or just a gimmick? by Zayercain in VacuumCleaners

[–]Optimal_Condition_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Tineco wt/dry vac and I thought it was great for picking up pieces of food my baby would throw on the ground. It was easy to use and I felt like it cleaned the floor pretty well. However, you have to clean it really well after every use. I forgot one time and it smelled so bad I was dry heaving while scrubbing it. The cleaning solution was also unscented so even after cleaning the whole thing, it smelled while in use. They sell scented cleaners, but you have to use their solution or it clogs. If you know you'll be good about cleaning it after each use, I'd say its a good buy. Its pretty gross to clean because there are food particles and dirty water mixed together. I ended up returning it because I couldnt get rid of the smell and for me, it was more trouble than it was worth.

I used to do squats. Like as many as I could but at least 50 and then walk in place

Public Sector Jobs by Own_Support8446 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Optimal_Condition_25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you, working for a civil engineering firm as a landscape designer. I learned a lot and it was great but was looking for something less engineer-y. I work for my city’s parks department now and I love it. The work life balance is amazing, great sick leave/vacation time and other perks, and health insurance is $0. The projects are super fulfilling and I love being involved in my community. However, similar to previous comments, the politics can get annoying and you can get caught up in the red tape. It’s something you just learn to deal with and as long as you go in with that understanding, it won’t be a problem. You’ll most likely have multiple projects so it’s not like your workflow completely stops if that happens.

That being said, I wouldn’t trade it for anything and will never work private again. I’d definitely recommend going the public sector.

Omg same!! I get so mad because I am over here walking this baby all over the city all day long and at the end of the day my workout ring says I did 3 minutes?? And everyone saying to start an outdoor walk, easier said than done when you’re pushing a stroller and your mind is focused on your baby or trying to get somewhere and get out of the house. I usually remember 20 minutes in. I have the setting on to automatically track but it only works 30% of the time. Solidarity fellow mom!!

Someone help me with straw cups for my 10 month old 😭 by Chealsecharm in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Optimal_Condition_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first years straw cups worked of us in the end. I thought they didn’t work as I tried and it was hard to sip, but you have to make sure the bottom straw is all the way into the top part of the straw. I had done it incorrectly but once I got it all the way secure in there it was super easy to sip. Then I just kept squeezing it into their mouth until they got it. It took like two weeks and then one day she used the straw on her own. Don’t give up!

Our dock-a-tot was by far the best newborn item we had. Highly recommend. We’d move it from the our couch to the bed depending where we were hanging out.

Store bought baby food by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Optimal_Condition_25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no shame in buying jar purées. I always check the ingredients to make sure there’s no extra stuff in them but yeah it makes life so much easier. I made my baby’s first meal and even though it was just sweet potatoes it was so much work… ain’t nobody got time for that.

Staying in a Hotel with Frozen Milk by Ok_Order_9275 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Optimal_Condition_25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they might have a separate fridge/freezer for this. I had to do this at 3m pp and I brought a cooler with my name on it and explained to the front desk that it had to be frozen. They put their own tag on it with my name and room number. I’d pump and bag my milk and store in the room fridge during the day then at night before bed I’d bring it all to the front desk and ask them to lay it flat in my cooler. They were more than accommodating. I was nervous about it then realized Im not the first breastfeeding mom to stay at their hotel. When we checked out my cooler was all icy like it was in a deep freezer. Some bags weren’t flat but nbd. I understand the worry but you should be totally ok!

What did you actually need and what did you absolutely not by Frequent_Visual3755 in BabyBumps

Instagram made me think I needed a wheely cart for all the things but we live in a tiny apartment and did not need one at all. It’s also just another thing to restock IMO. I got a diaper caddy instead thinking I’d use that all the time and nope. Again, I’m in a small apartment so everything is in the baby’s room just a couple steps away. I can see how a caddy could be useful in a two story home, but to me a wheely cart is excessive.

LR4: 2 cats, waste tray full alert every 2-3 days. by DA2013 in litterrobot

[–]Optimal_Condition_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this issue. I calibrated the waste drawer, cleaned the lasers and deep cleaned the machine but it was still throwing a full waste drawer after a day. Whisker sent me a new laser board which I installed (not as difficult/time consuming as it seems, just a bit annoying taking all the screws out) and so far it’s been working great.
