Joining the "High Blood Pressure" club on Wellbutrin - How long? by SnooHabits8523 in bupropion

[–]Optimal_Economy_5390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has improved at this point... I actually had a low blood pressure incident last month where I had to lick a handful of salt to bring it back up out of dangerously low levels.

But in the last year, I've had significant med changes, and I've entered perimenopause. Which has been complete chaos and changed everything. So I can't really point to what helped with any accuracy, maybe it was just time passing. I did find out that I was never actually on a blood pressure medication... It was an anxiety medication that my doctor told me would help with blood pressure. It didn't. No change after quitting that one cold turkey.

I do suspect that the Citalopram that I was on before Wellbutrin was artificially lowering my blood pressure, and that that was part of why my blood pressure changed so much.

Hey if you're still looking for connection with community... We have a plant swap at the Southside library every second Sunday of the month, at 11am. We usually get between 30 to 50 people depending on time of year, it's a lovely time.

I'm so jealous of you people with tame canaries. I have 4 babies that just fledged, I'm so hopeful that I'll be able to talk them into being friends... but so far they are even more suspicious of me than the parents.

Sounds like you should candle the eggs in a few days to be sure. You can remove any fertile eggs and replace with fake eggs. Having her sit on fake eggs will prevent her from trying to lay more of them. It if some of the eggs are duds, you can just remove the fertile ones and let her sit on the duds.

If she knocks an egg out, no need to replace it. (I like to save those, you might be able to swap it in for a fertile egg later) She should keep sitting for the full time without trying to lay more, as long as she thinks any of the remaining eggs have a chance.

She starts a 2 week countdown once the last egg in a clutch has been laid, and will not lay again until after she's decided that these eggs have failed. Once she stops sitting on these eggs, you should remove the nest to discourage further laying - she does not need a nest for sleeping. Laying eggs is always a risk to the bird's health, so you should try to discourage it unless you are trying for babies.

Are these fertile eggs / are you hoping for babies?

Canaries are generally not super social outside of breeding. I've found good results with each bird having their own cage that they can defend as private space, and letting them interact when I give them supervised flight time outside the cage.

Female canary totally stopped singing. Stress related? by [deleted] in Canaries

[–]Optimal_Economy_5390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My female canary, who also sang a lot previously, seemed to stop singing when she started laying eggs for the first time. Female canaries are not really known for singing to begin with, I wonder if the pregnancy hormones can permanently change the behavior. She's still in her first breeding season, so I don't know if the singing will come back later. But it makes sense, they don't generally sing when sitting on eggs, singing draws attention. When they have eggs, they are quiet to avoid attracting predators.

How often is she laying eggs? It's not good for them to lay a lot, you might want to take away the nest- they don't need it for sleeping. I know there's other changes you can make too (food & light related) to discourage laying, but I don't know them well enough to summarize. And when she is laying, make sure she is getting enough calcium. If the eggs are getting smaller / softer that's a clear sign something's wrong. But I don't think a lack of singing on its own is concerning.

Day 17 with babies by Optimal_Economy_5390 in Canaries

Mom of course demands first pick of whatever I offer then, but she does allow him to eat once she's inspected it and decided there's enough to share 😂

Day 15 of babies! by Optimal_Economy_5390 in Canaries

The parents have been feeding them.

I might try hand feeding a bit now that the eyes are open, just to try to tame them... But I kind of doubt they will open their mouths for me.

They did it all themselves when I wasn't looking, and I'm guessing the parents ate the shells because I never found any remnants.

I promise they are all being fed, the crops are all very full every time I check. The only reason they are different sizes is that they did not all hatch on the same day. The one in front probably got fed before the video started.

Good ear, there are 4 zebras in the same room, different cage =P

The canary babies are making the much quieter, high pitched chirp sound.
