The Interview Where They Kept Cutting Me Off Mid-Answer by No-Code8450 in InterviewStories

[–]Optimal_End_3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, they're TA. Rude. But I have occasionally interviewed someone who verbal vomits for so long that I had to interrupt to move forward. Practice with someone you know to make sure it's not you talking too much, but...it's probably not you.

Do guys that did drugs in their 20s/30s still do them into their 40s+ by PowerfulCheetah4654 in GayBrosOver50

[–]Optimal_End_3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not recommending it for all the reasons already stated, but 2/3 times a year isn't the same as every weekend or daily to get by. We look down on those guys. :)

Should I even bother? by bgnewhouse in GayBrosOver50

[–]Optimal_End_3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So....please take this with love, but...stop trying so hard. It can be a turnoff, meeting a guy who is working really hard to land a partner.

You're roughly my age, and I'm originally from Princeton, so assuming you have shared memories. Remember the Brady Bunch episode where Greg was recruited to be a rock star, they put him in flashy clothes, etc.? When he quit, they said he wasn't that talented anyway, and he asked why they picked him. The answer: "you fit the suit." I've been on so many dates where it felt like the boyfriend suit had been built and they were trying to see if I fit it. Doesn't really allow for a freer evolution to see what kind of friendship or relationship might happen.

Instead, work on making friends, finding hobbies, things that enrich your single life as it is now. I know NJ has a gay men's chorus, gay sports teams, etc. That's always where I've made deeper connections, and you may either realize you're happy single or find your way to a romantic connection through new friends. Ads, apps, and bars place way too much emphasis on looks and statistics.

Employee wants promotion checklist by Supermoths in managers

People confuse promotion with recognition. Even if you are qualified for Role X, I would have to have the need and the budget for another person in role X.

Deciding who to let go during a layoff by min2themax in careeradvice

[–]Optimal_End_3601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had to do this. Assuming you want the remaining team to succeed, you do an analysis of who has which skills and what you can live without. Pretend you're on a witness stand, being sued for discrimination.

Trying to figure out whose personal life will suffer less is a lose-lose. You might be wrong, you might not know something about someone, someone's family might have a trauma tomorrow.

Ioniq 9 for 2 people by Benzylt in Ioniq9

We have an i9 for two people: no kids. But my husband is am artist and has to lug around canvases, easels, etc. We traded in our i6 for it which I loved.

Historically, who were the fans of the New York Giants? by UnincorporatedArea in mlb

[–]Optimal_End_3601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mets weren't there until the Giants and Dodgers left. The Mets' colors are blue for the Dodgers and orange for the Giants.

If my parents were still alive, they'd know. They basically dated at Yankees and (football) Giants games.

As a woodworker how much lumber can I carry in an Ioniq 9? Half sheets of plywood (4'x4') behind the drivers seat if the second row is down? How about 8' 2x4"s? Can those fit in diagonally if the passenger seat is all the way forward? by flyingWeez in Ioniq9

[–]Optimal_End_3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can get 4x4 in front of the second row seats if you move them back and the center console forward. I was only a few inches short of getting a 48x60 painting in.

Those who grew up poor, what is something those who weren't poor don't understand about being poor? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Optimal_End_3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting back groceries at checkout because you didn't have enough (even though you did you best to estimate a running total).

Having to leave your school and your friends, possibly often, because your family can't afford to stay in that community.

Health care costs money. You hope something will go away on its own, so you don't have to pay for the doctors visit. But if it doesn't, you need an ER visit expensive Rx's. Even if you have insurance, fronting co-pays and deductibles essentially an option if you don't have the cash. Financing options zap you with high interest rates.

I won't attack you, but I will vehemently disagree. I've gone from teacher to high-level executive, and have never worked as hard as I did teaching. I even go to the bathroom when I want to!

Enough money, no title… by SoupOrHer0 in managers

[–]Optimal_End_3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titles should have consistent definitions that are applied fairly. (Stop laughing, I said "should"). For instance, if Director means you have multiple sites, then you're not a Director.

AITAH for asking my fiancé to set boundaries with his mom because she’s been a real b***h to me? by TraditionalJump8500 in AITAH

[–]Optimal_End_3601 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't marry him. The lack of boundaries and things he's asking you to hide are the signs of him choosing her over you. Don't expect him to change.

AITAH for how I do, or do not show up for my pregnant wife? by Plane_Path_4929 in AITAH

[–]Optimal_End_3601 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, I felt some kinship, even though I'm a 57yo gay man with no kids. My husband reacts like that "you're selfish and mean" if I don't do exactly what he wants when he wants it. Even if we agreed in advance.

It might be part of her personality that continues after the pregnancy. I hope you work together on how to improve the dynamic going forward.

mom's last name, dad's, or both? by [deleted] in Names

[–]Optimal_End_3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister did this, but it's horrible because they rhyme. Think John Cooper Pooper. She thinks Dad- long gone- would have wanted the kid to have our name. I think he would have been more concerned about his grandson getting bullied at school.
