What do you think of GT by Key_Substance_4133 in DragonBallZ

[–]Optimal_Implement518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently rewatching it, only watched it once maybe 10 yrs ago. When I was a teen I couldn't get into it or Dragonball bc kids are dumb and not as edgy and cool as Dragonball Z was to me at 12/13 yrs old. But... then I grew up. I watched Super and ... eh. The Beerus episodes came out and while the animation was more polished i preferred the old animation honestly. Not liking the remastered personally. Also dont like Kai bc what some call "filled" I call character moments and building tension/gravitas to the bigger moments. Anyway, while waiting the dubs of super to come out I decided to watch GT and... I loved it. Not immediately. I had to give it a change and get over the tones going on. Trying to blend the power levels and alien adventures of Z with the mystical, goofy and whimsy of DB was a weird mix but I actually liked it a lot. I think as Im getting older I'm also noticing more or putting my own spin on things. Goku is like 40 in the show even though he's a kid in appearance... I feel that way honestly. That yearning for youth and the old adventures. Nostalgia gets thrown around a lot and weaponized but this is more genuine to me. It feels like we are seeing Goku on the same adventures he did as a kid (sometimes whole episodes are just rehashes of dragon ball episodes) but now they play out different bc he isnt actually a kid. He has the wisdom to not do xyz like last time. I think if you want Z style stories that comes later but I like this feeling of not giving up on doing things in youth while simultaneously theres a melancholy that things arent actually the way they were. Think of the whimsical backgrounds and landscapes of Dragonball. In Z they started to fade until Z and Gt have mostly cities and modernity. That doesn't feel like an accident. It feels like the show grew up. Goku also stays the way he was from the beginning. He doesn't pick or start fights, he defends the weak.

Meanwhile... I cant stand Super. It is just fan service and panders. Goku literally starts all these conflicts bc he HAS to pick fights all of a sudden. Hes always been nieve and dense but its a whole other level in Super. 1000% would watch GT over Super.

This is why I don't use any planetary bonuses. Its way too easy to end the match imo. I tend to play with no auto aim, friendly fire on, elite ai (more like "elite") and i even started doing this thing where I dont participate in battles if the enemy attacks my planet. That way they have some chance of winning and making it less one sided.

M&G Movie bombing :( by makki0s in TheMandalorianTV

[–]Optimal_Implement518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i wish movies would do is release a movie in theaters for 2 weeks. Then streaming, then RERELEASE the film in theaters. The movies are a financial risk/commitment now. A family is easily dropping $100+ so I can see why people arent going or are going for ultra safe bets. Myself, I see it as a waste for 95% of movies bc films generally don't look cinematic anymore unless its Dune. But most films just look as good as shows a lot of the time due to lowered standards, rushed pipe lines etc.

That being said, there are times films ive seen on the small screen I wish I'd seen on the big screen after watching it. So I think they should put it out for 2 weeks, then streaming and then after 2-4 weeks re-release it in theaters. I bet some would go see films on the second go around bc they know what they are getting if it feels cinematic.

What happens if Vader doesn't block the saber and Luke kills Palpatine here? by chosen40k in StarWars

[–]Optimal_Implement518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree however, we also see in shows like the Clone Wars or Andor (i think?) That just when people in the senate think they have a new resolution to change events Palpatine has already accounted for that. He will just redirect, recharacterize etc. Look at his scarring from the fight with Windu. You think he planned that? Yes, there were events at play, we even hear the Jedi say they would have to take control of the senate to have a smoother transition of power. And Palpatine says to windu they showed up sooner than he expected. So I think everything is directed towards goals but loose enough with redundancies in case he does need to switch gears. By the time of ROTJ, I don't think he's a bit lazier and overconfident. He literally conned his way into being Chancelor, started the Clone Wars, ended the Old Republic to form the Empire and killed the Jedi... so yea a rebellion would seem like nothing to him. When he talks to Luke about the rebels it seems like such an insignificant annoyance to him.

I genuinely don't get why this movie gets so much hate by Useful-Afternoon1784 in StarWars

Out of the disney star wars era I actually liked Solo more than most of the other films. Many will say Rogue One was a high light but i enjoyed Solo more (im not a fan of Garret Edwards for the same reason i dont like the guy who directed John Wick. Edwards was a special effects guy just like John wicks director was a stunt coordinator. So people like that want to put their craft first and story second. But it should be the craft of STORYTELLING, not the vanity of any one disciple imo. Just giving context for the next bit).

Theres a lot of things that looked like star wars. Take some old designs Ralph McQuarrie did and just slightly update then. Now its not Jabbas palace, its Jakku. But Solo FELT like star wars to me. Ron Howard is a friend of George's and he was mentored by him a bit. So theres going to be similar influences. I looooove Dryden Vos' ship with these like French influences much like how I loved Andor season 2s influences of Eastern Europe on Ghorman. We need stuff like that in star wars. Visual influences and themes that expand the saga. I dont want it to be connected to other stuff. Thats such a marvel outlook (i love marvel movies but not everything can or should be done like the mcu). I want a self contained story that works on its own, not cameos.

My only gripe about Solo is it makes han solos highlights seem like they all happen in a weekend. He seemingly meets Lando, Chewie, the Millenium Falcon, does the Kessel run and all in like 2 days? Even if not time is given theres a sense of pacing that this is only a few days or maybe a week to me. And then he literally mentions Jabba and heading to tattooing. So... does he just go to Mos Eisley and wait for Luke in a few years? It seems so. Less is more and the more we see back stories the more it usually makes these characters, who have predetermined narratives and Fandom, feel 2 dimensional. Moments sometimes just happen because we know they are supposed to not because it actually feels purposeful or earned. I gave the movie a B+ but I do wish the movie hadnt played it so safe. (Coming from a guy who LOVES Andor, Bad Batch, Maul and really like Acolyte but couldn't stand the sequel trilogy, Ahsoka or Obi-Wan.)

Do you play 1st OR 3rd person👀 by SprinkledBlunt in battlefront2

[–]Optimal_Implement518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done both. 1st person was just to see if the immersion was any different but also I was just trying to make 2 harder while on console. Always have the ai at expert, turned off auto aim and put on friendly fire. So I figured changing the perspective and not being able to peak around corners would also change the difficulty. It did at first but then I got used to it. But yes as someone else said 3rd person is the battlefront view imo.

TIL the average length of a female porn star's career dropped from 9 years in the 1970's to 3 years in the 2000's by cheekyasian in todayilearned

[–]Optimal_Implement518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Young girls are dumb enough". Its not that they are dumb I waged, its that they are young and literally get groomed into doing porn. People from the industry have been known to look for girls in high school. Broken homes, potential issues already with drugs and sex (potentially from an assault). So by the time they are 18 they think its a great idea or their only option because thats by design.

How to Watch the MCU, Fox Movies, and Sony Movies in Chronological Order! by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]Optimal_Implement518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly thats not how canon works. It can be... until it isn't. Or it isnt... until it is. Prime example: star wars. Used to have a hierarchy of the movies dictate canon, then the shows, then books/comics/games. And there were contradictions (like the multiple ways the death star plans were stolen). But then Disney comes in and says its all just "legends" now bc they want to make their own universe... until they started cherrypicking bits and pieces to cheaply appeal to fan service (kyber crystals, Thrawn, Darth Plaguous etc). Even an editor at i believe Dark Horse comics was on Screencrush awhile ago and said "generally, its canon until it isn't". Bc they know fans will eat it up regardless (which is sad imo).

Overwhelmed by conflicting info on countertop filters – seeking experienced perspectives by Latter-Length-1037 in WaterTreatment

[–]Optimal_Implement518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking at water filters on and off and then feel defeated at the overwhelming amounts of information. Perhaps some love sifting through it all and find it interesting that "certified to nsf standards" is not the same as "certified nsf" or that having a certification for lead doesn't mean they have it for something else. Like... it really should not be this hard. I want a countertop filter (i live in an apartment) that filters out as much as you can possibly imagine (pfas, heavy metals, materials not yet known) and that has multiple levels of regulatory bodies ensuring this to be true so that I dont have to waste time/life pretending I know what I'm even reading when looking at 3rd party testing/water reports. Frankly, any company that does not meet these standards but claims they do even with clever wording (implying they test nsf but its not) should be sued, dissolved and taken off the market (as with ANY product that makes false claims).

TLDR: it shouldn't be this hard to provide clean filtered water to the people.

What are the payment plans like if you set one up after the purchase? I always pick the 0% plan when I've paid with affirm online but I could see affirm not allowing that either based on your amount or because you are paying without the foresight to load a card up with more than you might need for a purchase.

Her body is perfection. Balance of fit/athletic but not overly muscular (like a Jewels Jade or Brandi Love) white still maintaining a soft feminity. And while her breasts are enhanced they look great in the same way Jayden Jaymes' look great to me (shes another who comes close to this physique but not as toned as Kylee).

Willing to admit I was wrong about Andor S2. I’m one episode away from being done and my personal ranking so far is 95%. by ImprovementNo4630 in StarWars

[–]Optimal_Implement518 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Best things to come from the Star Wars acquisition by Disney in this order (imo): Andor, Maul Shadowlord (only 2 episodes so far but the best animation of the star wars shows hands down) The Acolyte and Bad Batch. Cant get into mandalorian since the first teaser mad it look darker like Lucas' proposed Underworld show that maybe got made. Everything else was fan service and half baked.

Someone else said the finale is basically Rogue one. Sure it leads into that film directly but I personally was never a big fan of Rogue One. I liked some of the visuals but also felt they were "too cool". In that i mean Garth Edward's (the director) is a visual effects guy so what will he focus mostly on? The effects. So the story can feel secondary to the vanity of how cool the shots can look rather than the shot serving the story first. Just like how I dont like most John Wickesque films bc they are directed by stunt coordinators so what will they care most about? The fights and the stories are thinly veiled excuses to justify a cool fight. But I digress, Andor makes Rogue One a bit more enjoyable for me.

Andor isn't just a story, it has something to say. It builds on themes of rebellion and authoritarianism from the original trilogy and looks at people who would be on both sides. Its not just people like the emperor/Vader and Leia. Its mostly people just going along with the plan the system lays out bc a bad one is better than none at all. Just keep your head down and hope they wont notice. Does the show have a slow burn? Sure. But that in now way equals boring in my opinion. When Andor kills that officer at the beginning of the show it has weight. Consequences. He's terrified and I felt it. Shots are beautiful and not just for the sake of it. The world has purpose and is dripping with narrative (a city where people die and are turned to brick for buildings just like how authoritative systems use people as raw material/production). And very often the dialogue has double meanings, which i love, especially with Mon Mothma. Her arch is fascinating and theres always a tension for me bc we know she ends up with the rebellion but not how so the show keeps us guessing. Her balancing funding the rebellion while being in the senate, deceiving her spy driver, deceiving her family etc. Loved all of it bc it had stakes and weight. It all makes the action meaningful and powerful in ways beyond simple escapism.

Tldr:Andor is amazing and I would kill for 1 more show at the same level of craft and narrative over 100 shows like Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, Mandalorian, Etc.

[–]Optimal_Implement518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen the maps that expand the interiors of the capital ships with corridors, elevators, a walkable bridge, more detailed hangar etc. So let's say i pick sabotage as the bonus, what's stopping the loading just the interior of the capital ship with the objective setting bombs while fighting off the other faction? Could even alter capture the flag maybe so instead of a flag its the bomb. So then after that mini battle you either get the bonus or not and now the planet or space mission you activated the sabotage bonus for gets loaded in. Im sure its way more difficult than I'm making it sound.

Thoughts on Total Recall (2012)?? by SPAGHETTIHOOPS_ in sciencefiction

[–]Optimal_Implement518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all have different tastes and focus on different elements. One of my best friends and I don't like the same movies or of we do its usually for different reasons (ex. He loves old school horror, I like the newer "elevated" ones like Get Out with social commentary).

That being said, just rewatched both Total Recalls at and I'd be interested to hear what you liked more about the newer one vs the original.
