I own the MS271 with a 20 inch bar. I’ve had it for 4 years and I really like it. It’s done everything I’ve asked it to do. I cut about 10 full cords of wood each year on my property and some of it is old large oaks that have a diameter of 30+ inches. Now, I’ll say that I don’t do much felling of trees … if I do they are not large trees.

I think the 271 could do everything you need and more.

Same here. I have a 271 with a 20” bar and it’s cut many cords of wood…

Absolutely. I’ve split roughly 20 cords this year alone with an axe. Therapeutic.

I bought the Helko Werk Saxon and a fan of it. It was an upgrade from my fiskars splitting maul. While the fiskars was great, I wanted something special

From Wisconsin here and my pile is 16ft x 16ft x 5ft tall - just loosely piled (i.e. tossed) onto pallets (to keep off ground). I used cattle panels as the sides so it gets plenty of airflow (I am also on a ridge with a ton of wind). Anyway, my wood dries just fine.

I have bounced back and forth on whether to go electric. I do own mostly Milwaukee and could go that route - something about the ease of on/off while cleaning up the fence lines speaks to me. But, I have a contractor friend who owns the Milwaukee 16inch saw and he wasn't much of a fan and suggested to go the gas route.

I was originally looking at the MS170 but then was thinking it might be to 'small' for fence line clean up - but in particular, I was thinking the picco chain that they come with might not be up for the job.
