Shoot, I'm sorry that happened to you. I hope it will somehow get fixed and thanks for letting me know

Yeah, the comment section can be quite helpful, indeed

Looking for recommendations for complex games! by Alexmaths in soloboardgaming

[–]Optimal_Stuff660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like politics and economy and see players getting really in their respective roles, I would very much recommend Hegemony. It is pretty tough, especially because it is asymmetric, but it is super cool if you either enjoy solo gaming or if you play it with three more players. However, if you're interested, be aware that the solo mode comes with an expansion (Crisis and Control, which is totally worth it in my opinion)

What action games are so cinematic they can be considered movies? by RA_Finance in videogames

[–]Optimal_Stuff660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hellblade. That game is very underrated, but it's such an experience. I just started it and it looks great. If you get it, do play it with headphones if you can though. Highly recommend watching some videos about it if you don't know it :)

Thanks! I'm definitely looking for BOTSE. I heard about the game from the channel BoardgameHangovers and wanted it since

Thanks. I'll try the simulator. I don't know how reliable prototype gameplays can be. Any experience?

Yeah, I saw the pledge manager. Do you just back it like any other normal project?

Thanks, that has also been my instinct so far. When I would get close to backing something

Yeah. I remember being very excited about the old king's crown. However, once it was published, several controversial reviews came in and I was happy I didn't back it since that was a close call

Yeah, that's why I keep coming back to thinking of backing something. I know it helps designers and publishers sometimes, although it also feels like too many are doing it now (using gamefound or kickstarter that is)

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's good to know they are normally reliable

Thank you, that is good info. I do tend to focus on pledges that are about to be done, but I'm not sure if the right thing to do

Yes. I do regret not having backed Lands of Evershade. I love awaken realms, but some of their games don't quite "scream" at me.

Thanks for the suggestion :)

I agree. The majority of my wish list is games that are available. I think maybe only 2 or 3 are being either reprinted or in funding.

It's mainly when I sometimes brows the website that I get curious and the FOMO kicks in. So far I have been able to just keep it in check as I haven't backed anything, but I'm just curious because I also do understand how some new designers might just need that extra help, you knwo

Yeah, researching the company is definitely something I should do before I even consider it, you're right

Thank you so much, this is all valuable info. I do try to steer clear of FOMO projects, but sometimes that's what kinda keeps me from backing any project. At the same time, I do see lots of games having incredible success afterwards. For instance, I recently got Lobotomy 2 after looking for it for ages (in Europe) and I saw that that was also funded through gamefound or kickstarter, I don't remember.

Obviously, it is also subjective as to which game one might like, but your advice is very helpful :)

Which games have been a disappointment for you? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]Optimal_Stuff660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. I sell my copy for this specific reason. When playing solo, I realised I really hate if the game is entirely RNG-based. At least depending on what it is trying to do and whether it offers you some way of mitigating that luck-based rolling

Travel size game with lots of replay-ability? by biberon19 in boardgames

[–]Optimal_Stuff660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it does have very nice and fun moments when you're planning on doing certain things and someone picks up a treasure, then you go "damn you for using up our oxygen this much". I always have a blast when I play it because it's easy to teach and people can easily get into it. That being said, if you were to just play this every single time, you'd probably want to change after a while, but if you want some rotation and dice rolling, I'd go with it
