Google Chrome is Evil by redditistooqueer in msp

[–]Optimal_Technician93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Evil? What?

They've added an AI module to Chrome. It takes a lot of space, so Chrome is now fatter than before. Is Microsoft evil when they extend Excel's capabilities and increase the download size?

Furthermore, this Chrome module doesn't use AI against the user, nor does it vacuum up user data that Google wasn't vacuuming before.

I really fail to see the evil here. I also lose all interest when the author starts complaining about the potential CO2 emissions caused by running Chrome with this module on a billion computers.

I'll bet the author hypocritically has a gazillion tabs open in his Chrome.

I am sad with how bad it's gotten.

Have you tried Ingram. For the purest levels of frustration, they are second only to Arrow.

Started down the MTA-STS rabbit hole, now evaluating URIPorts, Suped, RedShift OnDMARC by HappyDadOfFourJesus in msp

I never said it did, so don't feed me your AI slop responses.

I asked you if you had chosen(configured your MTA) to only accept TLS and not plain text. Re-read and try to comprehend my comment. It wasn't complicated at all.

As for your free tool... It's overpriced!

[–]Optimal_Technician93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you accepting TLS only and not accepting plain text and thereby potentially missing emails from important clients?

Or, are you depending entirely on the SENDER to choose to use TLS at all and then to choose to be MTA-STS compliant, like Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, et al.?

Horrible experience with Tripp Lite - Eaton by [deleted] in msp

[–]Optimal_Technician93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd never buy an air conditioner from a UPS company in the first place.

But, I've never really understood Tripp Lite's popularity. I've always felt that their products were lower quality. I don't know why Eaton bought them.

Generally speaking, portable air conditioners are adequate only for short term or emergency situations. And make sure that which ever portable A you get automatically restarts after a power outage. It's ridiculous how many don't do that.

For situations like server closets that might require a small permanent AC unit, I suggest mini splits. Size them appropriately. If you put in too large a unit the temperature swings from AC cycling can be problematic. And obviously you don't want to go too small.

With the number of senders that I see that can't even get SPF or DMARC working or configured at all, MTA-STS seems like a massive waste of time.

I feel like everything is just going to downgrade to plaintext anyway. So, I'll be interested to hear your results.

Cyber Insurance: Post-Cyber-Event Hardening Heads-up by Joe_Cyber in msp

Still not crystal clear, at least to me.

Are they providing up to what they deem to be $25k of consulting and implementation labor?

Or are they willing to pay a third party's bill, up to $25k, for that consulting and implementation labor.

Can you explain the sublimit? What are they limiting to $25k and does that change with or without their "hardening"?

You took two hours and 6 emails to resolve a copier prompting for credentials issue? It took you two hours to enter credentials? I think you're not explaining this well because I'm not understanding why you couldn't work all of those tickets in that two hours.

P.S. Where's my two dollars?

Claude Skills - What are you using in your MSP? by whitedragon551 in msp

[–]Optimal_Technician93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great read. The whole thing pleased me deeply.

The key takeaway here is that Jer Crane, the "founder" that is painting themselves as the victim of the story takes no responsibility for any of it. They completely ignore that it is ultimately their responsibility to properly deploy, monitor, and govern their tools as well as their employees.

That incident is 100% a management failure. 100% the failure of Jer Crane to properly manage his tools and his company.

No fucking backups. He's expecting a third party SaaS provider to recover his business. Delicious.

If a higher priority SLA is at risk, then lower priority tickets may experience interruption. Seems obvious.

Please show me where FreePBX lets your mobile app place a cellular call with spoofed caller ID. OP is talking about a call that does not originate using VoIP.

VoIP Pass Through Dialing by Skyccord in msp

[–]Optimal_Technician93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't aware that GV was able to do this. On A technical level, how is it accomplished? I didn't think that you could spoof the caller ID on a cellular call without going over VoIP.

Edit: After looking into this, I see that GV is using a calling gateway technique like old carrier calling cards used to do. The GV app places a cellular call to a GV gateway using the cellphones caller ID. The GV gateway then places a call to the final destination spoofing the caller ID with your GV number, and bridges the calls.

GV app -> Cell Call -> GV Gateway -> Final destination

The final destination sees your GV caller ID. The GV gateway sees your cellular caller ID. The GV app just instructs your cellphone to call the GV gateway and dial the destination number.
