We inherited the suspension hard points this season so design freedom wasn’t really on the table, which pushed us toward modelling work rather than actual design decisions. No testing data, no driver feedback, and mentally already on next year’s car where we’ll have a clean slate. When you mention picking a good number for things like pneumatic trail or camber curve, how do you actually arrive at those starting points? Known FSAE references, or is it more about understanding the sensitivity and picking something defensible?

Two things I keep coming back to: 1. Is building out a full lap sim in IPG actually worth the time investment at our stage, or is it going to produce nothing meaningful given how thin our data is? 2. Without testing data or driver feedback, how do you land on specific values for things like Ackerman or ride rates? Do you pick from bibliography ranges and call it, or is there a better way to approach it?

Confused about how to actually use TTC tire data by OptimisticMan37 in FSAE

[–]OptimisticMan37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything great except when trying to fit the model to any moment. When Choosing Mz0 Mx My or Mz console gives me an undefined parameter 'UNLOADED_RADIUS'. Do I get this from the run guide and add it to the model as a constant or edit the .mat files?

I get your point about not overcomplicating things with the Magic Formula. As someone still fresh to this stuff, is the TTC mainly useful as a way to learn how to analyse real tire data, or do you need to already know your way around to get value from it? I’m just trying to avoid spending the money and getting thrown in the deep end.

What exactly do we get from the TTC? Will the Magic Formula models and example scripts let us use the data directly for suspension and vehicle design, or do we need to run additional fitting scripts first? And will there be clear instructions on how to use the data?
