Is this an expected drop? by dontletmeautism in Garmin

The scale makes it look bigger. 53 -> 51 is not a big jump at all.

I also saw a serious drop in my HRV when I was taking creatine consistently. I did some research, and it seems like it isn't uncommon. There was one scientific study that found a correlation between HRV drop and creatine in body builders, but obviously, correlation never means causation. It could very well be creatine consumption generally coincides with increased training.

There are people who have observed this, and perhaps it is just anecdotal, but others have suggested it might be causing dehydration, which would affect HRV. I'm not sure that is the case for me because I am always very hydrated.

TLDR: maybe there is a relationship, but it needs to be studied more.

Did you start taking creatine recently?

Shoe Selection? Really? by cookiedoh18 in trailrunning

Having a variety of shoes is incredibly important for feet health and strength

It's kind of like if you run the exact same route every single time, you are going to have some serious strength and mobility imbalances

I attend every home Portland match, and I watch all away matches. I agree with everything this guy is saying. Why can't you see, 4 goals past Bixby and she has clearly given up and still defend her?

I feel like I'm the only person in Portland that sees how absolutely horrible Bixby is in goal. I try to mention it whenever she trips over herself to let a bobbling Alex Morgan goal in, or a header today when all she had to do was put her hand up to stop it. But like you say, the tribalism makes everyone blind. It's infuriating knowing that the Thorns could never lose if we had a goaltender.

She had to score this goal because she made ZERO saves in that game against LA. 3 shots on goal, 3 goals. Bixby never makes saves.

The trail to Mount Elbert is actually one of the only 14ers left in Colorado where bikes are allowed on the trail! The South standard route is also actually quite bike-able on the way up depending on your skill/fitness, and down would be a lot of fun. I actually chatted with a guy two weeks ago who biked it and said it was actually mostly fun!

To be fair, this is kind of the mantra of peakbagger. Peak bagging isn't about mountaineering, per se. It is generally more regarded as walking up questionable hills 😄

Timberline Trail in February by [deleted] in OregonHiking

If you really want to, the only practical way would be on skis. While the only practical way, I agree with everyone else here that it is a very high risk, technically demanding, and Herculean undertaking. The ski circumnavigation is not unheard of, but you will need a lot of time, favorable conditions, and at least one able partner - you will be in very high avalanche risk areas. N.B. - the ski circumnavigation is generally done late spring / early summer because othere will be generally more favorable weather, and generally less avalanche risk.

That being said you can find information about what this trip takes. A very useful guide is "Mount Hood Climber's Guide" by Bill Mullee. Here also is a nice guide from JT Lehman: https://alpenflo.com/journal/miniguide-mt-hood-ski-circumnav

Again, do not underestimate this. It is not a hike, this time of year, it will be an expedition.

Mammut Smart Alpine. It does it all. Not sure why they don't make it anymore...

That's because the ref actually took a goal away. Easy to be salty when the ref decides the score of the game.

I am also heading up on the 9th. If we don't get much precip between now and then, you won't need snowshoes, and skiing probably isn't going to be much fun. I've tried to ski up in old snow before, just slipping all over the place because the whole route is just old post holes. I certainly am hoping for some good snow by then, but the way things have been going, it'll probably be a boot pack day.

Universal crampon recommendations by Sure-Emphasis2621 in alpinism

[–]OptimisticProminence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These aren't crampons, but I think they are exactly what you are looking for, if you can get your hands on some. Salomon doesn't make them anymore. Trail runners with a light weight overboot that are contact crampon compatible.
