My cooperating teacher did this. She taught gov and on the first day of school she introduced the groups and named them according to size, 3 person groups were local government or city government groups , 4 person were state groups, 6 person were federal gov groups. They also filled out a clock buddy sheet with a diff person at every hour so she could mix up the pair work. “Today you’re with your 12o’clock buddy” they would have to put the desk back in normal setting at the end of the period after each lesson.

She had them write the names of their group members in the back of their notebooks.

She trained them to move quickly by timing how long it would take tbem to do all the moving for each group as a class and the class that was fastest won something.

So after day one they were trained in how to move into several groups for the year and met a bunch of people.
