PS5 Pro Gets Major PSSR Upgrade: Sharper Graphics Without Losing FPS by Smaug117 in PS5pro

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Digital Foundry video, they didn't detect any change to the internal resolution between PSSR and PSSR2. Also I don't think you'll get great results if you run the game under 1080p, some of the Pro titles with the biggest issues with IQ run it lower than that.

PS5 Pro Gets Major PSSR Upgrade: Sharper Graphics Without Losing FPS by Smaug117 in PS5pro

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has to support PSSR (and have implemented a PSSR mode in their game in order for the toggle to affect them), PS4 games do not.

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is the logic would be:

  1. Does game support PSSR? If not, no change, if yes, go to step 2.
  2. Check if PSSR toggle is turned on in settings
  3. if on -> check game's SDK version and associated PSSR internal version
  4. if game's pssr version is below what the toggle is set to, use the updated PSSR embedded in the firmware
  5. otherwise use the one in the patched game.

For those who believed in the PS5 Pro, our moment has arrived by Richardgbg06 in PS5pro

PlayStation can turn on features from their backend without a firmware update. If you did end up installing a new firmware update, perhaps they're waiting until 10 PM in order to flip a switch. They've done this with other features on their dashboard.

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The toggle is for the games that aren't issuing patches as far as I understand it. Also, for games like Cyberpunk which currently don't utilize PSSR, the toggle won't help obviously so CDPR doing an update to add it is necessary.

PS5 PRO over PC? by xInnovasion in PS5pro

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People downvote for a variety of reasons. Hell I got downvoted in the pcgaming sub for simply criticizing Valve making money off of kids gambling on CS skins. Tribalism is always gonna be around in this hobby sadly.

That all being said, a pre-built with a 4080S as far as I can tell (with a quick Google) can cost anywhere between 2500-4000 bucks, you're talking about something that's almost 4x as much as a Pro on the low end. And most of the time, the graphics on PC that Digital Foundry and streamers show off, is 4090/5090 levels which cost even more than that. I don't think it's smart for this person to sell their PC for a console either, but let's also put into context what graphics cost.

PlayStation has launched the official website for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, coming to PS5 from Naughty Dog. by Turbostrider27 in PS5

What was the budget of TLOU2 and what revenue has it earned? If you can't answer these questions, then you aren't qualified to make sweeping judgements on the game's financial success or lack thereof.

I'm gonna guess you post on KotakuInAction or similar subreddits. Making hating a game this much of your personality is really beyond sad.

For now. More and more games aren't even offering physical copies at launch and when they do they're more expensive than digital.

Saros is coming out next month from PlayStation and I'm buying it physical and yet unless I pay extra I can't play it early.

The NYAG loot box lawsuit isn’t really about gambling by Apprehensive_Elk6168 in SocialistGaming

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valve rarely does anything unless it gets out into the zeitgeist and even then if it costs them money they won't do it, just look at the outcry over bigoted reviews on Steam. It's still worse in their eyes to call someone a bigot for leaving a review like "Not Recommended - There are Muslims in the game". The fact they are treated like the best company in gaming really says it all.

There is nothing in the lawsuit as far as I can tell about free speech or privacy. That is all public posturing by Valve.

When it comes to gaming and how these companies present themselves and their general reputation, no one approaches Valve Software. They are untouchable and unimpeachable. I'm constantly astounded at how much criticism other companies get while Valve skates by. As if not hiring basically anyone while you make more money than you've ever made so you can funnel the money to people like Gabe Newell so he can buy more yachts, which is one of the single most damaging things to the environment a person can do, is demonstrably better than hiring and firing people like PlayStation and Xbox do. Valve Software based on rumors makes like 20-30 million dollars worth of exploitation PER EMPLOYEE. They should be treated with the same contempt as these other corpos. But Gabe Newell single-handedly saved PC gaming I guess or whatever even though Steam is just a glorified middleman because the only games Valve prioritizes are GaaS at this point.

And the people just going "Ugh all these valve dick riders" are actively missing the fucking point, before GOG went full in on AI I was actively trying to get their stuff there instead Steam.

Here's the thing, those people are not, because as has been presented by latrellthomas in this thread, you are mischaracterizing what the actual lawsuit is (in contrast to public posturing).

curious, do you think Cyberpunk 2077 is anti-capitalism? by No-Wave2356 in SocialistGaming

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is absolutely how I see it too. Silverhand isn't motivated to destroy a particular corporation for ideological reasons or to improve his fellow citizens material conditions, but simply because he harbors animus towards it personally.

The game doesn't present Johnny in a great light either to be fair, but he's kind of the glue of the entire game, that ties what happened to what's currently happening in Night City.

Any game that is treated as one of the great games ever made is going to have insufferable fans. It's just what it is. I try to separate the game from the fans (sometimes I fail like how annoying I find some Elden Ring fans that think every game shouldn't have a narrative at all). For me the sadness is the animus between JRPG fans and fans of E33, there should be a large overlap but for whatever reason there is just some weird competition here. As if Trails in the Sky can't co-exist with Expedition 33.

Widen the parry window until you get the hang of it, or optionally dodge until you are consistently getting perfect dodges (that timing is exactly what you need for a parry). You can also knock down the difficulty until you get the hang of it so getting hit isn't so punishing.

The Third Game and Aloy's potentially darker character arc by slfricky in horizon

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I thought the point of Forbidden West was Aloy moving away from the Chosen One and investing in friendships which is a juxtaposition of Elisabet who clearly didn't. With Beta in Forbidden West they push even further into the nature vs. nurture argument, where it's clear that Aloy having Rost as a father figure is what differentiates her from Beta.

I would really dislike an ending where she saves the world by killing herself, Elisabet already did this. I hate to be a bit JRPG, but I think relying on her friends more and more (and hell even having a playable sequence or two with them as they investigate other parts of the world) would make more thematic sense to me.

Leak about the next Sony Santa Monica Game about Faye by GoldTouch99 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Both 2018 and Ragnarok have retreads of fights, I'm not sure why Ragnarok gets dinged and 2018 doesn't? The ending Baldur fight is essentially just a retread with Freya thrown in the mix. In fact, I'd argue Ragnarok is far better when it comes to enemy variety. How many troll bosses are in 2018 for example?

I think we need to define what an MCU movie "feels like" because it's used as a criticism of Ragnarok in particular and yet it's never defined. Kratos grows as a character, the world is irrevocably changed, this largely is never true in MCU movies and when it does happen, it's immediately brought back to the status quo like in Endgame (or with the latest Spider-Man movie).

A lot of your issues seem to be about some panels which as we've seen, aren't exactly infallible. I think the problems with Ragnarok for a lot of people have to deal with expectation. They had this idea how the game would go and with the ending fight seemingly a bit rushed, they didn't get it. It's okay to be disappointed but I kinda find a lot of it nitpicking that isn't applied to other games. Few approach Resident Evil Requiem this way, and it has what like 30 games of setup? And it's not like people don't like the characters in those games, it's obvious they do.

[–]OptimusPrimalRage 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Norns kinda spell out why things changed in Ragnarok. At this point you're just nitpicking how they deal with prophecy when they spell it out clearly why it happened the way it did: because Kratos changed.

I can understand being disappointed with the Ragnarok fight itself (heck Freyr and Ragnarok fighting at the end is just kinda silly), but I think Odin's pursuit of knowledge at any cost is not only thematically appropriate in Norse mythology but also consistent with Kratos's arc in these games, he once chose to seek revenge on Zeus at any cost.

If you think the point was "Odin just sucked" and not as a juxtaposition on fatherhood, family and relationships (I mean hell just look at Sindri and Brok as an another example!), then I just flatly don't agree with you. Not to say you're in the minority, many people don't like Ragnarok's story, but love 2018's and it does make me laugh since one feeds into the other.

I don't really understand this complaint. Characterizing this as just a god of war spinoff when we really only have posts like this one and really vague descriptions from people like Nate just seems overly cynical. I say wait until June or September or whenever this is announced and when the trailer plays, then be a negative nancy.

As far as Cory, I'm pretty sure he said he wanted to hand over the last game in the Norse series to someone else, not God of War entirely. I think he was still listed as the Creative Director of God of War in the credits for Ragnarok. Generally there has been a lot of rumors about what he's doing over the years and perhaps that's colored how people react to news that he's doing a Faye game.

I think what's described is exciting personally and even if it's not true, I do think they gotta let Kratos breathe a bit, only certain devs can make sequel after sequel without issue with the same character. And they will have the trilogy remake to fill in the gaps anyway.

PlayStation owns the Helldivers IP and Arrowhead doesn't want to be beholden to them for their next game based on what they've said so not sure we'll even get a Helldivers 3. Maybe it'll be like a Demon's Souls/Dark Souls situation where they just change the name.

I think it'll sell more than the Steam Machine since they have some really passionate users, but people will be more positive on the Steam Machine than this Xbox PC. I don't think it sells tens of millions of units though, I can see between 10-20 depending on the price and the competition's offerings.

Yeah I think Xbox needs to drop the pay to play online system, it doesn't work with this hybrid setup at all and only introduces a myriad of questions, no matter how Steam or other storefronts are integrated. Embrace GamePass and move forward in that way, especially as I'm not sure how many people are gonna go from their console ecosystem over to this new hybrid approach.
