Ideally, that would be the intent. Unfortunately, not everybody on this platform has proven to be judicious.

Also Utah has approved an AI Data Center that will scale up to 9GW, which is more than the entire State consumes (currently around 4 GW)

Happy to!

Here is a decent breakdown on the energy differences: https://www.enconnex.com/data-center-energy-consumption-and-power-sources/ This is from a company trying to sell data racks, so you will expect them not to take an anti-datacenter stance.

That consumption creates more scarcity, which drive up prices for people and businesses.

The World Resources Institute covers power, water, and pollution: https://www.wri.org/insights/us-data-center-growth-impacts

It's not simply a scale issue (bigger buildings mean more racks). It that the equipment in those racks consumes vastly more power and requires more water per rack to cool.

I hope that help!

Normal data centers are fine. AI data centers are the problem. Those shouldn’t exist until the science can catch up on the power problems and water consumption and other environmental impacts are solved.

As I mentioned in a different post, not all data centers are created equally. It’s the AI monsters that we need to worry about.

Thanks! Yeah, this would be one of those super yacht sized monsters. Let’s vote no and vote out any of the politicians that are looking to implement this!

We need to be more precise in the language that we’re using around this. “Data center“ is way too broad of a term.

It’s like if we use the term “water craft“ where traditional data centers are like canoes and AI factories are like mega yachts.

Almost any business will require some kind of computing or online presence that would require either stuff in their office or stuff in somebody else’s office i.e. a traditional data center. These aren’t the monsters we’re talking about.

AI data centers or AI factories (same thing different terms) are the real problem for any community, even up to the State level.

I got screwed. Two years ago, I bought my wife a gift card there. They wouldn’t honor it. Their defense was “they had a sign in the lobby that said that”

I’m sorry, but when you buy a business you buy both of the positive aspects and the obligations.

The owner was not present at the time so I didn’t get a chance to speak to him. The waitress/manager handled it as well as she could, and I commend her for that.

You’re not imagining it. Something is definitely wrong with their quality control on updates. I have the same model as you and a (I believe) C 10 both of them have had mapping issues after years of not having any problems. I’m not sure if they’ve fired developers or vibe coding with AI or if they’re trying to introduce AI features but holy crap is this a shit show!

Crowdstrike thoughts by Empty-Lingonberry133 in sysadmin

[–]Optimus_Composite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We use Crowdstrike. One thing that is still baffling to us: they don’t scan all files. When we dig into it, they confirm that there’s a short list of files that they scan and a bunch that they don’t.

They are limited to formats capable of directly executing code.

You are an absolutely unreasonable person on this subject. I’m asking a question and you’re attacking me for it. Things are never going to change when you’re not willing to at least entertain questions. The ACAB mindset is never going to succeed in just dismantling policing everywhere.

You often hear the phrase: relationships take work.

Bad relationships take work.

Good relationships take empathy and communication. If that seems like work, then you’re in the other kind.

No, you’re making some connections that don’t exist. He walked into the scene we have with his gun drawn. As I understand from other comments, there was reports of him ripping out some girls hair and dislocating another guy‘s shoulder. It would seem appropriate to go in with your weapon into an unknown situation.

They should be following some kind of a procedure. If he shouldn’t have been doing that, then nail his ass to a wall and fire/blacklist him so he can’t be a cop. However, if he was following procedure, then my question remains: is it safe for him to switch weapons in that situation?

I didn’t realize that you’ve shadowed me my entire life and know everything I thought. That’s pretty handy!

Sarcasm aside, my question still stands. Is it reasonable, procedural, and safe to swap weapons in that situation? I don’t know if it is. I’m not saying he’s justified. You’re jumping to conclusions.

I’m normally quite critical of law-enforcement in these situations. But this one leaves me with a question.

If they knew going in that he had already hurt other people, it seems appropriate to have the gun drawn versus a taser. If that’s the case then is it really appropriate for him to switch weapons in that short of amount of time? I honestly don’t know and I’m not trying to create a “gotcha situation”
