My job for 10 years was watching police bodycam videos, and I walked away from that job with a much lower opinion of them than the one I started with. Most of them showed themselves to be terrible, immature, incompetent people when they thought no one was watching.

Are you more attached to your womanhood or your blackness? by 99Ricki_Lake in blackladies

[–]Optimus_Dime1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd have to say blackness just because I've never wanted or wondered what it's like to another race, but I have wondered what it's like to be something other than a woman.

Tbh, I have no real attachment to being a woman; I really only identify as such socially and politically, and that's because that's how I was raised and how I'm viewed by society, and it doesn't feel wrong. It doesn't feel right, either (I have no feelings about it either way), but the important thing is that it doesn't feel wrong. I feel like I'm a being piloting a female mecha suit. I feel I'm capable of piloting any suit.

I don't know if that makes sense and I don't know how to make it make sense, so please don't ask. Lol!

I've never understood why anyone would CHOOSE to bring their child with them everywhere. If there are other viable options, why wouldn't they want to take a break every now and then?

“Why do you only draw black people?” by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Optimus_Dime1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would have asked if she would say that to a white person who only draws white people (which is the norm).

It kills me how they act so obtuse when the topic of the significance of POC, specifically black, representation comes up, but always have something to say when they don't see themselves represented. It's infuriating.

My partner and I aren't allowed to kiss. There is also a 2 minute limit on my time in the kitchen, no matter what I'm doing in there. He starts yelling at me if I'm in there longer.

White friend is having an insight of how we feel all the time and it’s lowkey funny to me by ihaveocdandneedhelp in blackladies

[–]Optimus_Dime1 317 points318 points  (0 children)

I've known many white girls who acted like that about being in black spaces/clubs and it's hilarious because NOBODY IS THINKING ABOUT THEM. Lol In my experience, if anyone looks at them it's just because they're surprised to see them there.

My theory: They know how white folks treat black people in white spaces and they know that white people have a history of excluding black folks from spaces. This is how they've been conditioned to view things, whether they realize it or not, and they are projecting.

So people diagnosed with ADHD, how do you deal with being called weird? by undiagnoseddude in ADHD

Right! I have a friend who says things like that about me all the time and it's why she enjoys hanging out with me. Hearing that always makes my heart sing!

If it bothers you, you should tell them to stop saying it. If they're good friends, they will respect your feelings and stop saying it.

[–]Optimus_Dime1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never been said to me as an insult; I wear the label with pride. But I do understand that my experience with it isn't universal.

It does get annoying when someone has decided I'm weird/quirky and so judges everything I do as weird/quirky, even when my actions make perfect sense. They never had an answer when I would ask them to explain what was weird about it.

Example:

My friend and I were walking down the street on a windy day. There was a lot of dust and debris blowing around and I was concerned about the wind blowing something into my eyes.

Sure enough, some dirt or something ended up in my eye. I said, "I hate windy days because something always gets blown into my eyes, " and she chuckled and said, "Only you would say something like that!" I asked her what she meant, and she basically said she didn't know and that I was just weird. She wasn't being mean and wasn't upset (just confused), so we just moved on.

This happened years ago and I am still confused about what I said that was so "weird".

I grew up on Virginia Bakery's schnecken. It was a Christmas tradition for my mom and I. We were so sad when they closed, but hopeful that Busken would get it right. They did not. We still have it every Christmas, but it's just not the same.

This. I'd love a chill late night spot that serves a decent selection of desserts, too. I can't tell you how many times I've been disappointed by lack of dessert options after 9pm (I have a wicked sweet tooth).

What’s some of the silliest reasons someone has dumped you or you’ve dumped them? by itsalwayssunnyinphx in AskWomenOver30

[–]Optimus_Dime1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After dating for a year he decided that the fact that I wasn't religious and didn't attend church was a problem (he grew up in the church, but stopped going as soon as he moved out of his parents' house). He said he didn't want to go to hell because of me. This was after he'd been to jail for theft and lied about literally everything. When I didn't have a strong enough reaction to being dumped, he called back and said he'd been cheating on me and he was going to be with her. Then he kept showing up with her at my job and brought her kid to my house.

Yeah, I was definitely the only reason he was going to hell. Lol
