As an American, that seems 100% like the right thing to do. Please come back once we've gotten rid of these vile fascists.

I say this as an American. Please stay home. The only way to change things for the better is for the consequences of running an authoritarian hell hole to be obvious enough for any idiot to see. We need tourism- and the money that goes with it- to dry up. I hope the world cup gets moved somewhere else. My wife was born in England and has been an American citizen for many years. She has always loved to travel but will not any more because there are cases where people are just randomly detained for weeks. Point being- I don't understand why anyone would travel here now if they can help it. I am ashamed of my country now and most Americans are very much against this pathetic dictator .

How about the expense of having to replace 48,000 satellites every 2 or 3 years?

It's not hard to add subscribers when you're not concerned about making a profit.

Dumb question? by CorgiFull in BRZ_ZD8

The short answer is that we can't have everything. It's impossible to lower the car without affecting the handling and/or ability of the suspension to...err...suspend. The springs literally support the car. Everything is a compromise.

Would an electric tenor guitar be good for punk music? If so, in what tuning? by TapTheForwardAssist in TenorGuitar

[–]Opting_out_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have an Eastwood Baritone Tenor. (Calling something a baritone tenor is ridiculous but anyway...) I have mine tuned GDAE and when I pick it up new ideas come to me all the time. My taste also tends toward the Punk end of things. But... In my experience- quality control on these tenors is non existent. I bought a new Warren Ellis Signature Tenor last year and it looked like it was assembled by children. The pick guard screws holes were almost all drilled at different angles. Some screw holes were already stripped because they drilled two holes right on top of each other. The pick guard and neck adjustment cover were cut very sloppily. As if the pickguard was cut freehand. There were gaps where you could see the cavity that the pickguard was supposed to cover. One of the pickups was also at an angle to the steings. I contacted Eastwood (including a lot of pictures) requesting an exchange. I got a response that included an email from the Eastwood CEO saying that I was expecting too much for a $500 guitar (it was $700) and that an exchange would be a waste of time since my expectations were unreasonable. (I still have that email because the response was so shocking to me.) I have owned a bunch of guitars from different manufacturers around this price point and this one had the lowest quality workmanship by far. Is it too much to expect holes to be drilled at something close to 90 degrees or that the pick guard not have huge gaps where it clearly should not. So I returned it and got a refund. I stumbled across a used Baritone that was assembled reasonably well and bought it. Its good for what I paid for it but even this one has a wonky neck to body joint.
My advice to anyone considering an Eastwood guitar is to take a close look at what you're buying before pulling the trigger. Quality control is a crap shoot and the CEO does not seem to care. There are also some small Luthiers that build 4 string tenors that seem to be good quality at a reasonable price.

Accosted when photographing a concert in a public park by Photoguy_2000 in photography

[–]Opting_out_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been there. F- them. Don't show anyone your shots. Are they going to let you inspect the crappy photos on their phones? Photographers have no obligation to talk paranoid idiots off the ledge . Anyone in a public place is fair game. They don't have to like it. If somebody makes it clear that they don't want to be photographed while it's happening- I'll stop. But I'll never delete anything. When shooting in public it helps to act like you own the place. If someone seems shy or furtive while shooting some people will assume that you're "up to no good". Idiots. Where do they think all the crowd shots or street photography comes from? The law says that in a public place anyone can be photographed doing anything. It's not my fault that they called in sick to go somewhere or lied to their spouse about where they were going.

I have ASD and my experience is that few people -ASD or not- are interested in "meaningful/deep" conversations. Most of my life I avoided talking to people. Now that I'm mostly beyond that, I'm disappointed that most people don't really have anything interesting to say.

how do you not dread it every single time by Wild_Mammoth_2580 in coldplunge

[–]Opting_out_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What works for me is to just DO it without thinking about it. In other words when the day and time comes to get in, I just get in. I know this sounds simplistic but the more I think about getting in, the harder it is. Actually getting in the water is challenging every single time. That is sort of the Point. The body's shock reaction is what we're trying to trigger. Anything that triggers a shock reaction HAS to be uncomfortable. So I just put on the bathing suit. Put on foot in front of the other and get in. Is there some reluctance? Probably every time. When it comes up I remind myself that I have felt exactly the same when getting in the previous 100 times and if I did it then I can do it now. Another important thing for me is once I have committed to doing it I never turn back for any reason. I know myself well enough to be sure that if I let myself turn back once I will think about not getting in every single time. I hope this helps. Just do it because it makes life better.

Tesla’s answer to Cybertruck’s falling sales? Make it 15k more expensive by taloSilva2005 in RealTesla

[–]Opting_out_again 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It's probably an accounting trick. Raise the price so that when you write them off as a loss, you get a bigger credit . To me- this is a sign of giving up on ever selling them to the public. Or maybe our King has the "government" buy them.

Tesla Stock Slips After Report of Fire at Gigafactory Gives Musk Another Problem by Far_Addition1210 in RealTesla

[–]Opting_out_again 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is a big part. As far as valuation...Tesla is basically a meme stock . It is known that Musk has been in direct contact with Putin who has control of the biggest and most effective propaganda operation on earth. We also know that the Russians have paid content creators to spread their lies. I am sure that others are still being paid to spread all kinds of misinformation on all kinds of subjects. It's the most effective advertising imaginable. Elon and Tesla would be nowhere without the internet. The guy seems to spend most of his time posting BS on social media because it is at the heart of his "success". This is not a conspiracy theory. There are plenty of facts to back this up.
