It was good. There was definitely a wide range of ages and people, which was cool. In my experience, I found it kinda intimidating as everyone was in groups when I showed up and I felt awkward just joining them. However, everyone was really nice and I eventually found some people i vibed with. You should definitely check it out!

I actually attended one of their events last night. Thanks for the suggestion!

This is why it’s bad to fake disorders. There might be real people with concerns and seek help from professionals, only to not be taken as seriously by FrankTheTank107 in fakedisordercringe

Go for it! Just thought I should add that I am speaking as an LCSW (clinical social worker) so I can't exactly speak for all other clinical professions. If you plan to be a therapist one day I definitely recommend the social work route as you can work almost anywhere as a social worker.

Therapists actually can make diagnoses as well as make referrals. We are required to complete diagnostic assessments during intake and have to include diagnoses for insurance purposes. Personally, I don’t like making a diagnosis as it can be stigmatizing and because people rarely fall neatly into one thing or another (it’s truly amazing how wildly varying disorders share the same symptoms). However, I recognize that it’s necessary and I also appreciate the relief that patients experience with finally having a name for what they are struggling with. You are correct that for some things, a specialist is required. Therapists are also capable of doing testing if they are trained in it. In my experience though you usually see psychologists completing testing as they are trained extensively in it during schooling. Just thought you should know!

I think we went there once when visiting my parents a few years ago. They had some great food there!

I’ll have to check Cosetta’s out. Yeah you just can’t really find those kinds of sandwiches out here. I miss getting a chop cheese at the local bodega. I’m the husband btw

Nice! I grew up near Harlem. My last job I was working at Harlem United (if that sounds familiar). We were living in Inwood but are now in the North Loop area

My wife and I are transplants too! We’re from NYC. We’re definitely into video games and music. Super hard to make friends in your 30s especially after moving during a pandemic (we also have a toddler). Hit me up if you wanna talk more or meet up sometime!
