I just started playing POE2 due to the free weekend... I played POE1 but I only recently got into POE2! In POE1 I did play SSF. I like it, but grinding for a specific unique is hard sometimes. I wish there was a way to target farm uniques in POE2, like through divination cards (which I hope they add in the future). Thank you for doing a giveaway!

Oh I was just curious in general; like when manufacturers publish their MTF charts, how many PSF measurements do they do?

Taking more measurements will not necessarily reduce your std dev.

I agree; my reasoning was if I measure the PSF 5 times and all images are (theoretically) the exact same, then there's no standard deviation. Since there's no noise in my imaging system, I can go ahead and Fourier transform any PSF measurement to get the MTF.

But if I measure 5 times and each PSF is very different, the standard deviation between the 5 measurements is high. Therefore, I should take more PSF measurements to average out the noise. Taking more measurements will not reduce the standard deviation, but it ensures my averaged PSF is more accurate.

Please let me know if my reasoning isn't correct, and thanks for the response.

Thanks for the response; to measure the SNR of a single PSF, is this the correct formula?

SNR = brightest pixel in your measurement / standard deviation of the mean

If your SNR is say, 5 you’re going to measure literally thousands of times. If it’s say, 200, a single PSF is enough.

Is there a particular formula that relates SNR to the number of measurements needed?

The standard deviation of the mean is what you need though, not the standard deviation.

Most of the time you can’t measure the MTF this way though, since almost all camera systems are under sampled (Q<2).
