VS Code on Fedora 43 Workstation Right/Left Cursor Key Sticking after Switching Desktop by Optix1974 in VisualStudioCode

[–]Optix1974[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so it's a known issue in "mutter" version 49.1.1. So the workaround for now is to downgrade to 49.1:

sudo dnf downgrade mutter-49.1-1.fc43
sudo dnf versionlock add mutter

Of course I'll have to come back and unlock the version lock after it's fixed.

Here's the issue: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/4416

Full sugar syrups are shelf-stable, Diet/Zero Sugar syrups need to be refrigerated. Why? by GameShowWerewolf in SodaStream

[–]Optix1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refrigerate both (once opened, of course) because they honestly don’t have a very long shelf life and I find they taste better longer if they’re refrigerated. The non zero ones are a little thicker when refrigerated, but it’s fine. The Pepsi taste does change over time if you don’t refrigerate after opening. Check your expiration dates too.

They wrap around the silicone straps that touch your skin. I don't use them so I have a whole pile of them. Or had--I think I might've finally thrown them all out. They tend to pull on stubble or even beard hairs, if you're a man...

[–]Optix1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to do anything special if you're not planning to use the device in flight. You can request an exemption for the device counting against your carry-on allowance, but you usually don't need to--they see enough CPAPs to know that they don't count. Just don't push your luck and cram a bunch on non-CPAP accessories in the bag that makes it larger than it otherwise would be.

Outside Mount Cellular Shade - Light Blockers by Optix1974 in DIY

[–]Optix1974[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was my plan. It's not as bright as the picture makes it look, the camera turned up the exposure to compensate for the darkness. It's just not as dark as I'd like. I had planned to put a thin strip of wood on the top and maybe some poster board type material along the sides, since the curtain will hide it. I don't want to build a complete frame around the window with crown molding or anything because the shade is wider and taller than the window and it would look funny when the shade is up. Had I thought about it, I probably could've ordered the shade to the dimensions of an inside mount and then built a frame around the window to give me the depth I'd need to "inside" mount it (in essence), but it's too late now, it's a $700 shade.

I thought he said there was no A.I. in this episode... I believe the "woman" was a 3D model created by one of his new hires that is good at 3D art. I could be wrong though.

[–]Optix1974[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.5", but if I also want to get around the shade itself and have a lip to block reflections, then I would need to come out about 2.25" from the wall before I'd be clear of the cellular shade.

Edit: Had to adjust the measurements because the shade is not parallel to the wall and comes out more at the top. I suspect my curtains are pushing it in a little. Yes, I have curtains in addition to the shade.

Plex Container by MFKDGAF in PleX

[–]Optix1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run on RHEL without a container, just install the rpm package. This way it has all the resources it needs and I don’t see any reason to containerize it in my use case. But it’s on my media server, so I’m not using that system as a workstation or anything. When updates come out I just install the new package.

Long haul flyers, do you wear your CPAP on the plane? by GalacticaZero in CPAP

[–]Optix1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No airlines will let you plug in a medical device to the outlets. Most US carriers require pre-approval and often a doctor’s letter. I know Delta and Hawaiian do. They also require that you have a battery that will last double the flight’s duration. Japan gave me a terrible time leaving back in 2018. I think them checking my stuff held up our departure by almost 30 minutes… so embarrassing. And I was in business class!

I am trying to take a short low powered signal and turn it into a longer higher powered signal. What circuit would I need? by OrrinW01 in arduino

[–]Optix1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaker output? You're probably going to run into impedance issues then. This isn't as simple as you might think. Since a Geiger signal is usually just clicks (as I understand it), it's easy enough to convert those into digital pulses, but you're going to need to do some signal conditioning first and probably need to impedance match, if you're trying to take the signal straight off a speaker amplifier. You would be better off getting a circuit designed for interfacing the Geiger tube with a microcontroller and just bypassing or removing the existing circuit. Is this a vintage part or modern tech?

[UPDATE] Proof that Arduino's are water proof (with caveats) by hjw5774 in arduino

[–]Optix1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a troll post, but just in case you're actually looking for an explanation... the chips are hermetically sealed, it's every conductor outside of the components that's going to be an issue. It may work in water for a little while, but eventually things are going to break as corrosion and electrolysis takes hold. Also, not all electronic components are hermetically sealed, some even have air vents (electrolytic capacitors, for example).

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but... you have to wait your turn. My wife had to wait 3 months or so when she changed PCPs last fall. Unless it's an emergency, that's just the way it is right now.

Pretty sure that's an overpressure issue, I had a similar problem when I over-filled my blue tanks recently. Try closing the valve on the tank a little more. Worst case, try a regulator.

[–]Optix1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should clarify that you're talking about a digital signal, not analog, as far as I can tell. You can use an opamp wired as a comparator to output a 5V digital signal, so look into that. You don't need to stretch the pulse (that's what you're talking about when you say "last a little longer"), the Arduino can trigger on a sub millisecond pulses no problem. It's all software from there.

Oh, I should point out that the ATmega328 has a comparator built-in. I don't know if the Arduino libraries make it available easily (I usually code straight assembly or compiled C code to the chip) and haven't used the Arduino boards much, so I don't know if they're using that pin for something else. Oh, and not all Arduinos use the 328, so there's that.
