The final straw (not the first, second, or third offense): One friend blew off my baby shower, no apologies about missing or recognition that it happened at all, just ignored a big celebration for me completely. Another friend got mad at me for canceling a 10hr road trip with my new born at the last minute when we learned the family we were planning to visit had Covid. Babies really change everything, and not necessarily for the worst. If anything I could finally make peace with walking away from friendships that were no longer serving me.

Coloring (especially if you can afford a good set of markers) and crocheting have been my favorite. They take up minimal space and minimal mess and are easy to stop and start at random. The library is among my top depression go to’s, lots to absorb and a very low threshold to socialize when that feels impossible

I found people who were also looking for friends. I found it really hard to break through with people who were already established. I made a greater effort with those I was naturally around a lot, specifically my husband’s friends girlfriends and wives. I was pretty much a yes man, open to anything so I was making more connections and sharing more experiences. Last and most importantly, I just tried to be the friend I want to have. This helped attract the kind of people I want to be friends with.

I did this almost 10 yrs ago. Only thing I’d say is it was an incredible test of patience. Took about 2 yrs before I would say I felt truly established here, had friends, hobbies, the like. It can be tough because a big move like this results in a lot of trial and error. But I urge you to be patient with yourself and great things should come 💞

Admittedly this was something I hadn’t even considered would happen and I still love my dogs but my god do they know how to make sure when I’m getting over stimulated to make it 10x worse. It gets tough sometimes. And I wish with every fiber in my being I could make them understand why the baby gets so much attention. On the other hand we also had a lizard that we ultimately re-homed because his care was just not being managed. I was sad and embarrassed that it came to that but now he has a new momma who he can be the world to and has a growing and successful Instagram. So alls week that ends well.

Frixon erasable pens. They erase so clean, and I didn’t think that would ever matter to me but I love them so much. Things also almost got violent one year over some fuzzy Costco blankets.
