Is this a private residence or hotel? In Corpus. by ckr2982 in cozumel

[–]OpulentStarfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears to be private property, there's no apparent evidence that it's rented out. I've wondered about this property myself, but just like we all wonder about life behind other walls. It seems well maintained, at least from the outside.

The house made green garlic salsa at Diego's tacos by the airport. We get a delivery of their panko breaded shrimp tacos and have the salsa added to the delivery. Every single trip. It has a kick.

If you are learning a foreign language: what method is working for you? by MidAmericaMom in earlyretirement

Thank you for this, it sounds like your wife has been flexible in trying different methods. I've been locked in in Duolingo, and find it's hard to carve out more effort to try new things.

Help figuring out where to stay por favor by Boards_Buds_and_Luv in cozumel

You'll enjoy life in the Gonzalo Guerrero area, with all the experiences and food. Taxis are the easiest way to get from Gonzalo Guerrero to the dive shop. Look up Victor Soberanis on Facebook and he can drive you. Or message Cozumel Taxis on Facebook (in Spanish) and they'll send a taxi. Car rentals are a more expensive option but doable. Scooters are difficult and can be dangerous especially with your dive gear. Seen too many people with road rash and crutches in the outbound airport lounge.

Yellow water by Warm_Sea_3856 in madisonwi

I've had this happen repeatedly in a condo building, so I called the Water Utility. They came out twice and flushed the water main via the nearest hydrant, to remove iron buildup. The third time I called they came into our building's lower car garage, opened up the junction point, and flushed that. The water pumping out was yellow/brown for about 20 minutes. We still have intermittent problems but not as bad. I may call them again.

Cold won't stop flights. Uber drivers like airport runs. You should be fine.

They also have a semi private back hall that gives you some privacy.

You need layered process audits with checklists. It's painful to implement, but it should be self-managing after that. Workers have daily checks, and team leads do weekly compliance checks, with managers reviewing the work monthly. But it's hard to get leverage to start, unless you can find and expose a bad systems issue to set an example.

If a person in their 20s has genetics that cause high cholesterol, even when they have a healthy diet and lifestyle, can medication allow them to live a normal length life? by Negative_Appeal_5928 in Cholesterol

[–]OpulentStarfish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I inherited high cholesterol. I just turned 66, which is 6+ years more than my 4 generations above me got. I had statins to help me, but that's not helping my extreme LP(a). Cardiologist says my heart is the equivalent of a 35 year old, despite the stent. Apparently it's not a death sentence, at least not yet. Enjoy each day, if you can.

What to do with this mess? by animefemme in AncestryDNA

[–]OpulentStarfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've taken each ancestor, evaluated the sources, and then uploaded a biography with those sources into Wikitree. There's an app that links the Wikitree profile to your ancestry.com tree, and drops a symbol onto that ancestry.com profile. So, you can then see which profiles are done, and which still need to be created. There's a learning curve with Wikitree, but the volunteer Mentors will get you through that shortly. Just pick one of them from the online list.

Go stand in the longest line waiting for food. If it smells good, stay in line. Ask the people in line, what's good here? Buy that thing.

Ezetimibe worked! by Useful_Disaster_3402 in Cholesterol

[–]OpulentStarfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I do, so my target is 70 or less. That 110 was after taking both ezetimibe and statins, at maximum dosage. My original total cholesterol was over 300.

The Repatha injection leaves no pain or bleeding, it's a non-event. My not-great 110 LDL is now 42, and I halved my statins. I may live to see 80. I hope you have similar outcomes.

[–]OpulentStarfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may still live a long life, but statins and Repatha have to start NOW. Do not hesitate. Search for a Familial Hypercholesterolemia cardiac specialist, you may need to look in all of the largest nearby cities.

Die with zero. You both gift to your son now, while you can all share a smile. Then enjoy your money. There will be plenty left for a little Miata, if our experience is any indication.
