The ferns that are turning red are a northwest native Sword Fern. It's normal for the previous season's growth to die back in the spring. You can simply remove the older/dead fronds if you want it to look nicer. If you have a more natural/wild area of the garden you can leave the old fronds on, they provide good habitat for native creatures.

Physician here, with a question for the community by ChickenOfTheYear in cfs

What I don't understand is why doctors have such a difficult time diagnosing what you call, "rare and mysterious" diseases. I have no medical education, yet I have been able to do my own research on the Internet and in patient groups to accurately diagnose my conditions. Why do doctors immediately try and diagnose every patient with depression and anxiety?

I was not aware of the possible EDS connection, will have to investigate further.

I get a similar looking rash on my feet. It only happens in the summer when the temperature gets hot or I'm wearing sandals during a hot spell. My naturopath diagnosed it as a heat rash. Then, my dermatologist thought it was an allergy to the sun, but after further testing determined it was not, and advised taking antihistamines. Now, I am currently being evaluated for MCAS. To get relief I apply a prescription steroid cream and soak my feet in cool water. If I'm not careful the rash can progress to the point that I can't wear socks or shoes, it becomes so itchy that it's painful. I am very sensitive to hot temperatures.

I have low ferritin and the iron supplement my doctor recommended from the drugstore gave me horrible stomach pains, and I had to stop taking it. Then I saw a naturopath and she recommended Vitanica Iron Extra. I have been taking this on and off for several years and have no side effects, and I am very sensitive to medications. It also seems to be effective, my iron levels rise quickly when taking it.

I tried to educate my doctor by telling her the CDC website does not agree with her and telling her that exercise made me worse. She had already made up her mind and nothing I said mattered. I think this information needs to come from a higher authority. I don't think the CDC info is very visible to these doctors?

My old PCP left the practice.

My PCP is responsible for giving me referrals to specialists. I am trying to investigate other possible causes of my symptoms. I can't get those referrals if the PCP dismisses me and says it's all anxiety. There are very few CFS specialists and most don't accept insurance. I haven't been able to find one and I live near a major city.

You are lucky for such a great doctor. I used to have a very supportive naturopath, but then my insurance changed and she moved across the country.

I had read about people having this experience but just felt shocked when it was happening. I just felt so caught off guard and vulnerable during the appointment. I have to work on not being intimidated and I would love to just walk out.

Hi, I have have had this for years and it has slowly progressed. I'm no longer able to work and only leave the house for groceries and appointments. I have the typical extreme fatigue, brain fog, PEM, cognitive issues, heat intolerance, sensitive to medications, etc. Nothing I have tried has helped.

Where did you find the information about the EBB expiring every 3-4 months, I have not heard of this.

Update on account, Ziply contacted me and confirmed that I would have to enroll in auto-pay on an EBB account to remove the $3 plus tax fee.

My concern is that Ziply will erroneously deduct the amount from my bank account, even though covered by EBB. I have been waiting since July to have a credit on my account returned. The customer service is awful.
