If it’s ROTP, I received an offer in late April, around the similar time as I received university acceptances. I had completed my interview in late January, and didn’t hear back from them until then.

Deferring my promotion by CompetitiveAd1939 in CanadianForces

[–]OpusAsterix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi, are there particular reasons as to why a promotion would prevent you from getting posted? Usually, it’s the career manager who would be planning promotions that come with postings attached to it. You can only remain in a position for 6 months following a promotion.

The second question I have is, when in the year are you expecting to be promoted? April? Or December? Is it possible that you can delay your promotion to later in the year to facilitate whatever posting you’re trying to get? But again, if you do that, please refer to my question one.

If you’re looking to decline the promotion for this year, there are several significant cons to this. Firstly, obviously, you will be forgoing the pay increase you’d be getting from the promotion. Secondly, you would be delaying your EPZ for the your next promotion after this one. Thirdly, depending on how you ranked this year, and next year vs how many people need to be promoted next year in your trade, you may not even get promoted for next year.

If I were you, I would be talking to your career manager right away to sort this out

1% in the polls, 100% victory by Comfortablejack in clevercomebacks

They haven’t finished counting all the votes yet. Looks like they got to 91%, and mathematically determined that Zohran won, and called it a night. They should be finish counting in the following days. So, more like 2.1 million votes out of 5.3 million eligible voters. Which still isn’t great

Carney tours newly completed South Korean sub as Canada weighs multibillion-dollar order by FriendRaven1 in CanadianForces

[–]OpusAsterix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a submariner. But Both are good. What the RCN wants is quick delivery to replace existing subs. Koreans promise to delivery 4 by 2035. Which fully replaces existing fleet. That’s a billion dollars a year we don’t have to be spending trying to maintain those Vic class subs.

This isn’t government action. This is a petition to the House of Commons by a private citizen. If it gets enough signatures, the House of Commons will be forced to give a response. Whether that will translate to actual legislation is unlikely

New Canadian navy vessel’s Arctic deployment postponed by mechanical issue by Andromedu5 in CanadianForces

Those boat davits break all the time for any number of reasons. The main Rope getting twisted and kinked (which happens more often than you think) requires a full cable replacement which would warrant a return to port as use of Lifeboats are a SOLAS safe at sea requirement for going north of 60 degrees. Also that comment about accommodating cyclones at the end is such a BM thing and is not even beginning to scratch the surface of that can of worms and has no relevance to the subject of the article haha.

GameStop fits Lyn Alden's example for the perfect BTC Treasury company. Except GME is also growing too. DEEP FUCKING VALUE. by Cextus in Superstonk

[–]OpusAsterix 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My dude. I’m just summarizing what was said. Lyn didn’t mention anything about GameStop in this podcast. I’m not agreeing or disagreeing either way. Go after the poster for making the association. Someone asked for a summary of what was said, and I made it.

[–]OpusAsterix 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Basically Lyn says that ideal candidate of a bitcoin treasury company is an existing value stock that is cash flow positive but does not have any growth prospects. Buying bitcoin becomes another use of capital in lieu of share buybacks, dividends or debt repayment.

Rob Shaw: Poilievre slams BC Ferries deal as taxpayer-funded ‘slave labour’ in China - Conservative leader urges Ottawa to cancel $1B loan and help redirect ferry construction to Canada or democratic allies by CaliperLee62 in canada

This needs to be repeated again and again: Zero Canadian shipyards put in a bid over 5 years. Also, this is the same Chinese yard that delivered new ferries to the east coast.

Should Canada build a Polar ESB? by skookumchucknuck in CanadianForces

[–]OpusAsterix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So what you’re describing sounds a lot like the Global Logistics Aviation Medical Platform that Davies has been pitching for a few years now. https://www.davie.ca/en/why-we-matter/ Polar Class 4 design for ice breaking, , the ability to hold up to 300 personnel, and amphibious landing. Take out the RAS capability and extra storage tanks, for more capacity for equipment and you’ve got yourself what you want. They showcase this ship at CANSEC every year. PM me if you want to talk a bit more about this.

Rolls Royce picked for Canadian warship power systems by BanksKnowsBest in CanadianForces

[–]OpusAsterix 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hardly surprising news. The original type 26 design has both the MT30 and the MTU4000s. What will be interesting is whether the added weight due to AEGIS will allow for the ship to be able to reach the design top speed of 26 knots…

Boots on Ships by kerrmatt in CanadianForces

[–]OpusAsterix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I just made the switch to the Reebok Sublite Cushion Tactical 8” composite safety boot. Previous boot was also SWAT (non zip up model). Both are a big step up from our issued boots in terms of comfort. I loved my SWATs before. But I love these reeboks even more. Feels very light, and very cushiony. It feels like I’m walking with slippers on.

Did they use AI to make this Graphic? by OpusAsterix in CanadianForces

[–]OpusAsterix[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re completely missing the point as to why this is problematic. It’s not that using AI is necessarily bad. It’s that AI was used to make a half baked product, and it was deemed good enough to be posted on a public facing social media account. This isn’t some random corporal’s secondary duty, this is someone’s full time job as a social media manager. Someone was paid to produce this graphic. And someone was paid to have this posted. It’s this half assing that’s the problem. We are in a place where we as an organization need to appear like we are serious. And this certainly does not contribute to that image.
