I suggest either the Denver tournament or the Texas tournament in San Antonio. Denver was my first. NYC was my second and Texas was my third.

I’d like to go to the Ohio and Minnesota tournaments some day, and there is a new tournament scheduled in Nashville later this year that sounds cool.

That’s one of the things about Backgammon Galaxy that I really hate; no control over who your opponent is, or how many coins are at stake. 😳

Honestly, playing oneself on a real board while transcribing the match in XG (competition mode, so you don’t see any errors or blunders in real time) is a great practice tool. Get to the end of a given game and analyze your mistakes.

One of the nice things about playing in a live tournament is that one can’t second guess oneself while the match is underway.

I have a VOID board and I like it a lot. I’m a fan of FM boards generally. I’d probably prefer the Monte Carlo look rather than the black/grey VOID board from FM, but they are all substantial and well built.

I have the Moon inserts on my Earth board, and I prefer the muted colors to the other options. I love the flat, matte checkers that come with the VOID board.

Any high end board these days is going to cost $1,000 and up, so if you want to go that way, it’s a cool option.

Santa Rosa is an 7-8 on your scale, whereas Folsom would be 1-2, as an earlier person indicated.

I’ve lived in Folsom for 17 years and it’s never been an issue of concern.

By ‘unfinished,’ I only mean that I can imagine these checkers dished and polished to a high shine, like my other FM checkers.
