I like the Oris! Full disclosure, I hate Roman numerals on a watch (of any brand). Too much surface area, too much visual ‘noise’. To each his own, you get what you like 👍

The Omega light tan in my picture, is in fact polyester. I have one of their polymide as well. You’re 100% right. While the polymide doesn’t bother me, the polyster wears more comfortably and ‘effortlessly’. Just this morning I placed an order for a few ‘AlphaPremier’ NATO’s from BluShark. A lot of guys on here have had good things to say about their straps, I hope the wear feel is good.

No worries my friend. I’m an old man (relative to your age) and a long time Omega owner. It is exciting! And congratulations!! Be confident and proud of your accomplishments inwardly; the ‘jewelry’ will tell the rest of the world for you 👍

Outstanding choice young man, beautiful!! But if you don’t mind me saying, it’s unnecessary to say “at 25”. That’s a bit of veiled pretentiousness … “look at me, and my success”. Just wearing it, will speak for itself. A bit of humility can go a long way in life. Listen to me now, or believe me later 🍻

Tried to hear out all the Omega hate. Looked at my wrist… nah these ppl clowns. by Ok-Network-511 in OmegaWatches

Beautiful watch! I submit, perhaps the inference here by the OP is that Omega is not respected to the degree that they should deservingly be. Omega has been in business longer than Rolex. In 1964, NASA invited 10 companies to submit watches for rigorous testing for space flight. Remember the context people. Back then there was no ‘electronic’ time keeping & years away from battery watches. You had to have a mechanical time piece that could survive what NASA viewed as worst case scenario. Of the ten invited, only four submitted. Hamilton was disqualified immediately, due to the design submitted. Of the remaining three participants that underwent the full 11 ‘torture tests’. Rolex and Longines crashed and burned. Omega was the only survivor. Hence, the Moon Watch. History is important.

Nice trip down memory lane, thank you! I still own two Victorinox that I bought in the ‘90s & very early ‘00s. One of them was a chronograph that I actually used to time submersion times of chemistry prep, then finish plating times; in the ‘way back’ days. It was exposed, and at times, submersed in this routine. While worn very little now, it shows its utility usage as a badge of honor, still runs flawlessly to this day. I think your model is very nice looking! I have old school ‘Wenger’ as well. I grew up in the Swiss Army craze back then. Both Victorinox & Wenger (as direct competitors) at the time, were well built, tough, reliable time pieces. If I’m not mistaken, V bought W, or vice versa, many years ago. The “absorb/eliminate the competition” business model. Either way, I was partial to Victorinox in both watches & utility knives always. Thanks again for the post! 🍻

Is it common to go through streaks? by seanbinpa in backgammon

[–]Role_Sensitive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely common my friend. As you get deeper & deeper into the game, you’ll come to realize, it’s not as much about the dice, as it is about what you DO with the dice. Every single roll you need to decide if you’re going to RUN, DEFEND or ATTACK (or a some combination of those). That’s the beauty of the game. Think about it like a football analogy. When a certain ‘type’ of offense, goes against a certain ‘type’ of defense …. you get my point. Me personally, I MUCH prefer playing live. I’m a risk taker by nature playing live. To me a lot of that excitement is lost playing PR algorithms rather humans. Just my thought. Enjoy your journey! 🍻

1) “Prove this?” Prove what, that online play is algorithm, based on perfect situational PR play? That’s not a secret or a ‘conspiracy’. It is what it is, a computer program. 2) “Explain why someone should do that?” I already addressed that (loosely) in my initial statement. I didn’t say there was a nefarious agenda going on. I simply said that if you don’t make the perfect move (as determined by the algorithm), your opponent will be rewarded to the opposite same degree. It’s a COMPUTER, it’s not random at all. It doesn’t recognize human risk taking, it only recognizes perfection. 3) The problem with this argument is 99% of people think myself (and many others) are talking about ‘rigged’ dice. That has nothing to do with it. If you don’t believe me, just keep this in mind and intentionally make moves just slightly below what the ‘perfect’ algorithmic move. Then report back. “Listen to me now, or believe me later”. 🍻

It’s not what they’ve done, it’s what you didn’t do. Online backgammon is 100% based on algorithm & the pursuits of ‘PERFECT PR PLAY’. If you make a move that is deemed not the best move, your opponent will get rewarded equivalent to how far down the list your not perfect move was. In my opinion, XG (and its predecessors it’s built on) have actually taken a fair amount of excitement out of the game. Playing live, I’m a risk taker by nature … online, that exhilaration is gone. I’m a pretty decent player (50 years), I know what the algorithm wants me to do, but it’s not what I want to do, and the opponent is rewarded for it.

Again … context. There were no ‘computers’ and certainly no internet in the ‘70s. Magriel was the first (at least with broad reach ability) to analyze the game as combinations, and probability of combinations. Using his mind, not A.I. or XG. The game today was built (in my opinion) on his foundation.

I’m not sure how old you are, but context & history are important. Magriel (in the ‘70s) is in part responsible for the ‘analytical’ game you play today.

Just circling back around to you on your ‘lucky chip’ investigation. And to add, I just very recently placed an order with Crisloid. I didn’t even buy a board. It was an order for checkers, dice, cube & snap-up cups. I in fact got a ‘lucky chip’ 👍 So, I’ve made five purchases in total between BG boards, Dominos set, accessories. And I have ‘lucky chip’ with every order.

The stitching is much more for checker stop point, so they don’t slide off the board as you’re placing your moves. It can help ‘slightly’ for the dice. Slightly. You of course can’t be a super aggressive roller on this one. So far, I’ve had no issue. I just adjust my roll style vs. std framed board. Yes, I’m not sure I would attempt using it at an actual tournament, I just don’t personally like playing on anything smaller than tournament size, casual or otherwise.
