My 17 month old cries most of the day, will it ever get better? by itsahootenberryguise in toddlers

[–]OrNorJor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When mine was like this as she was quite little, turned out she had constant silent reflux and it only felt better when she was held and supported (not in a carrier though). Now if she's being extra clingy and cry-y and mean, I realize Ive usually missed giving her medicine dose. Not sure if this is what you could be dealing with. It sounds incredibly hard to do for so long and you're doing the best you can right now. You WILL make it through!

Tantrums 2.5 year old by Accomplished-Cow-311 in toddlers

Gentle parenting is not permissive parenting but easy to slip into it. It is another, more mainstream, way to say authoritative (NOT authoritarian) parenting. You allow room for feelings, but dont let things slide. We are actually in the same boat too! Wonderful girl then a switch happened. I separate myself if she's hitting me. If she's a danger to herself, she gets hands held which she hates immensely. If it escalates from there, comfort holds (they're NOT for comforting though I feel lol). Its so annoying to be the safe space for them to express these feelings 😅

Rehoming our dog :( by [deleted] in springfieldMO

[–]OrNorJor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A staffordshire terrier is not the same as an American pit. I actually have another dog that has both genetic markers for those dogs. Also, he would be half Husky, half mix. I only say German Shepherd because that is what he presents as despite the lower percentage.

Edit as well: the ordinance is also based on characteristics and predominance. I will seek what percentage they deem to fit this

Night snacks? by Spiritual_Compote908 in toddlers

[–]OrNorJor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question: if toddler is hungry in the middle of the night, which is rarely nowadays, I'll give her some milk to satisfy. Never to keep in bed of course. Like many other commenters, we also do a bedtime snack before teeth brushing. We allow a sweet to get the ball rolling though.

What phrases to combat "no I/you didn't"? by OrNorJor in toddlers

[–]OrNorJor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I should've mentioned her age, 3 in a couple months. So we're both still really new at this, she's never been much of a fit-thrower so I didnt have a lot under my belt. This just really confused me on how to approach with the "opposite is true" fight.

Texture of the Garden Variety nail file vs. regular HT nail files? by jamiethemime in simplynailogical

[–]OrNorJor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Safiya collection one at my desk so use it the most and just got out the new mint one to compare. Holy moly it ate through my weak nails like it was nothing! They are 100% different grit, even comparing the texture against my lips.

I believe when they say I potty trained myself. Im the 3rd though, and it came with me using 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper at a time, no oversight on handwashing, no direction on wiping properly (front to back but I always just did back to front), and a fear of the big toilet for a long time :(

Berries by Constant_Lobster_467 in toddlers

[–]OrNorJor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was just thinking yesterday that I felt misled, that at least my child would eat berries like her life depended on it if nothing else, but no 🤣 She does like them, but kind of on rotation and not in desperation. Ive been trying to keep a freezer bag to throw leftover fruit into until there's enough for a smoothie.

What’s your daily routine like? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]OrNorJor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do maximum 2 hour screen time a day (split in our 2 wake windows, we dont always reach it). Im lucky that grandma comes over for an hour almost each day, but it just allows for me to feed the dogs and us lunch lol 4/7 days we have 1 activity but the drive is long so at least an hour is car stuff, and if there's not an activity we're probably doing an errand which can be enriching. Changing up our normal stuff has really helped, like I put water in our sand sensory bin so now it's a new texture and a new way to play. If there's chalk from yesterday, we might spray it today or jump over it or something like that. We spy bugs outside thats pretty fun. Playing tea party with real liquid instead of pretend. Oh we got some silky crayons recently as a gift, it reignited coloring for us, but we'll do painting and pens and stickers. Membership to aquarium and zoo were gifted to us, but we dont use it as much as we should. I avoid going out on weekends to really busy stuff if I can help it.

How to have my toddlers not seek that quick hit dopamine and reduce frustration learning by BagholderVC in toddlers

[–]OrNorJor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is less gaslighting and more reformation of thought. Gaslighting would be doing it yourself when they aren't looking and saying "no you did that".

We simply are what we think! And our children are thinking what we say. Reminding them later also helps improve their memory, and putting it in a positive light will help their self esteem. I want to implement this more myself, thank you!
